  1. After seven seasons, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” will conclude its run in national syndication, following host Kelly Clarkson‘s decision to step away from the program after this season, it was announced on Monday. According to NBCUniversal, which produces and distributes the talk show through Universal Television and NBCUniversal Syndication Studios, production will continue as planned with Clarkson hosting, though a few special guest hosts will step in from time to time. Season seven episodes will air through Fall 2026. “I have been extremely fortunate to work with such an outstanding group of people at ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show,’ both in Los Angeles and New York,” Clarkson said. “There have been so many amazing moments and shows over these seven seasons. I am forever grateful and honored to have worked alongside the greatest band and crew you could hope for, all the talent and inspiring people who have shared their time and lives with us, all the fans who have supported our show and to NBC for always being such a supportive and incredible partner. Because of all of that, this was not an easy decision, but this season will be my last hosting ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show.’ Stepping away from the daily schedule will allow me to prioritize my kids, which feels necessary and right for this next chapter of our lives. This isn’t goodbye. I’ll still be making music, playing shows here and there and you may catch me on “The Voice” from time to time … you never know where I might show up next. But for now, I want to thank y’all so much for allowing our show to be a part of your lives, and for believing in us and hanging with us for seven incredible years.” “‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ has been an extraordinary collaboration,” said Tracie Wilson, Executive Vice President, Syndication Studios. “I’m grateful to Kelly for bringing her talent and energy to this. Her warmth, quick sense of humor and connection with people created a show that made fans feel seen, heard and a little bit better about their day. We couldn’t have achieved the show’s success without our exceptional showrunner/EP Alex Duda, whose vision, leadership and unwavering commitment across all seven seasons have guided us through unprecedented times and a cross-country move. Together with producers, staff and crew, they created a legacy to be proud of.” Valari Staab, Chairman of NBCUniversal Local, said, “‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ has been a valued part of our NBC-owned stations’ lineup for seven seasons, always delivering an entertaining and engaging show for our daytime audiences,” Staab said. “We thank Kelly and the production team for the wonderful, high-quality show they’ve produced consistently since 2019, and look forward to the remainder of this season as they complete their successful run.” The Daytime Emmy-winning syndicated series redefined the talk show genre by bringing celebrities and everyday heroes together on the same stage to celebrate hope and harness the power of music, meaningful conversation and stories that spotlight the best of humanity. The Kellyoke segment has become a signature cultural touchstone, often sparking what fans and media call “The Kelly Clarkson Effect,” where Kelly and her band reimagine songs in ways that resonate deeply with audiences and earn praise from the original artists themselves. Since its debut in 2019, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” has consistently held a top spot in daytime, captivating a multi-generational audience across broadcast and digital platforms. Its digital footprint continues to expand in season seven, surpassing 2 billion annual views across Facebook, Instagram and TikTok for the third consecutive year, while adding 6.5 million new social followers, underscoring its unmatched reach and cultural influence. The show received widespread industry recognition for its excellence across talk programming, writing, production, technical achievement and original storytelling on digital. “The Kelly Clarkson Show” won 24 Daytime Emmy Awards, including four consecutive wins for Outstanding Daytime Talk Series and four consecutive wins for Outstanding Talk Show Host. The show also earned major wins from the People’s Choice Awards, Gracie Awards, Webby Awards and the Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards and numerous nominations from Critics’ Choice Awards, MTV Movie & TV Awards, GLAAD Media Awards and the Writers Guild of America Awards. “Songs & Stories” episodes on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” have featured an impressive lineup of artists, including Alanis Morissette, Babyface, Miranda Lambert and P!NK, each bringing candid conversations and unforgettable musical moments that blend iconic hits, personal storytelling, and powerful performances at the heart of the series. An NBC primetime spin-off of the long-running hour-long “Songs & Stories” segments featured the Jonas Brothers, Gloria Estefan, Teddy Swims and Lizzo. They proved highly successful, cementing themselves as standout Summer 2025 programming, driven by the exceptional work of Clarkson, her band and the show’s Daytime Emmy-winning producing and production team. From its beginnings in Los Angeles to its current home in New York, the show created a coast-to-coast opportunity for fans to experience, in person, surprises, live music, connection and meet people whose stories inspire meaningful change. “The Kelly Clarkson Show” is produced by Universal Television and distributed by NBCUniversal Syndication Studios. It airs in over 200 markets across the country. Alex Duda is executive producer and showrunner. 2. Actually, we are now up to date, as the week of January 26-30, 2026 won't be released by Nielsen until later this week.
  3. Need To Know “General Hospital” maintained its 1.3 rating among Households for the third consecutive week, marking the first time the soap opera has done so since April 2024. “Let’s Make a Deal” surged to new season highs among Total Viewers. “TODAY 3rd Hour” and “TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle” each saw a week-to-week surge in key demos, with the former up significantly among Total Viewers. During the week of January 19-23, 2026 “TODAY 3rd Hour” saw the largest week-to-week gain among Total Viewers, up 171,000 (2.184 million vs. 2.013 million), and was also up +36,000 viewers year-over-year (2.184 million vs. 2.148 million). The news program was up by significant margins week to week among Women 18-49 (+0.06) and Women 25-54 (+0.11). With a 0.27 rating in Women 18-49 and a 0.46 rating in Women 25-54, the third hour of the “TODAY” brand ranked third in both categories, with year-over-year growth in the latter (+0.02). “TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle” continued to perform well in its second week, up +0.02 week-to-week among Women 18-49 (0.22 rating vs. 0.20 rating) and up +0.04 among Women 25-54 (0.35 rating vs. 0.31 rating). Compared with the year-ago performance of its predecessor, “TODAY with Jenna & Friends,” the retitled news program, which now features Sheinelle Jones co-hosting beside Jenna Bush Hager, was flat among Women 18-49 (0.22 rating) and up a modest +0.01 among Women 25-54 (0.35 rating vs. 0.34 rating). Among Total Viewers, “Let’s Make a Deal” marked new season highs for both its second half-hour (2.745 million) and its first half-hour (2.271 million), up +137,000 and +75,000, respectively, compared to its performance one week earlier. Among Women 25-54, the second half-hour was up +0.03 (0.39 rating vs. 0.36 rating) while the first half-hour was down a mere -0.01 (0.30 rating vs. 0.31 rating). Compared with the same week last year, the second half-hour was up +0.02 among Women 18-49 (0.26 rating vs. 0.24 rating) and up +0.05 among Women 25-54 (0.39 rating vs. 0.34 rating). “The Young and the Restless” maintained its week-ago 0.22 rating among Women 18-49, and remained the top soap in the key sales demographic for the second consecutive week. The show was up +0.01 among Women 25-54 (0.38 rating vs. 0.37 rating), but dropped -40,000 viewers from its performance one week earlier (2.954 million vs. 2.994 million). “Beyond the Gates” fell back to last place among Women 18-49 (tie with “NBC News Daily”), tying its season and series low performance in the demo with a 0.12 rating. Though things greatly improved towards the end of the week, the soap opera was heavily impacted by an East Coast preemption on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 (see preemtions/schedule changes below), and, coupled with the special “Beyond the Gates: Inside Fairmont Crest” airing in place of an original on Monday, January 19, 2026, this likely led some viewers to miss that the show was back with originals on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Among Women 25-54, the show did a 0.24 rating, down -0.02 from its week-ago performance. Meanwhile, among Total Viewers, the series posted its second-lowest performance of the season with just 1.522 million viewers tuning in, down -129,000, and the largest week-to-week drop across daytime broadcast. “General Hospital” fell below two million viewers after three consecutive weeks of reaching season high performances among Total Viewers, with 1.939 million viewers tuning in, while also setting a new season low among Women 18-49 (0.13 rating) when excluding ESPN on ABC sports coverage of the MLB Wildcard Series games back in early October 2025 (0.10 rating). Among Women 25-54, the soap opera was down -0.03 (0.23 rating vs. 0.26 rating). On the positive side, the show maintained its 1.3 rating in Households for the third consecutive week, marking the first time it has done so since April 2024. “The Bold and the Beautiful” saw a week-to-week decline of -33,000 viewers (2.590 million vs. 2.623 million), with the soap opera flat among Women 18-49 (0.20 rating) and up +0.05 among Women 25-54 (0.34 rating vs. 0.29 rating), which marked its best performance in the latter demo in eight weeks. The second half-hour of “The Price is Right” saw a week-to-week gain of +54,000 viewers (4.564 million vs. 4.510 million) while the first half-hour was up an impressive +101,000 (4.018 million vs. 3.917 million), with the first half-hour attracting its second-largest audiences of the season among Total Viewers while up +0.02 among Women 25-54 (0.52 rating vs. 0.50 rating), even with its year-ago performance in the key demo. Wrap-Up What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of January 19-23, 2026 among Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including week-to-week and year-over-year comparisons (where available). Note*: Starting with the 2025-2026 television season, Nielsen ratings are based on the Live+Same Day Big Data + Panel model, with figures under the 2025 column based on the former Live+Same Day Panel-only model (2024-2025 season). This Week vs. 2025 comparisons for “TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle” and “GMA3” are based on the prior performances of their predecessors, “TODAY with Jenna & Friends” and “GMA3: What You Need to Know,” respectively. CBS aired repeats of “The Price is Right” (figures unavailable) following the conclusion of “The Talk.” As a result, year-over-year comparisons for “Beyond the Gates” are unavailable as the show didn’t premiere until the week of February 24-28, 2025. Unless stated otherwise, comparisons for 2025, specifically among Households and Total Viewers, were unavailable to this publication for most daytime broadcast shows until February 2025. 19. Following last year’s crossover event that saw “The Young and the Restless” star Bryton James take his Devon Winters character to Fairmont Crest on “Beyond the Gates,” CBS on Tuesday announced at its TCA event the second crossover between the two soap operas, set to air over multiple episodes in June on “Beyond the Gates.” According to the network, James will be returning to Fairmont Crest as Devon, where he’ll be joined by co-stars Eric Braeden (Victor Newman), Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott), Michael Mealor (Kyle Abbott), Susan Walters (Diane Abbott) and Melissa Ordway, who plays his on-screen wife, Abby, and is Victor Newman’s daughter. The ambitious storyline will see longtime close friends Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis) and the powerful patriarch of the Newman family, the legendary Victor Newman, reunite at a high-profile political fundraiser. In story, Victor has backed Vernon’s political campaigns over the years while Vernon has championed legislation benefiting Newman Enterprises, an alliance built on loyalty, influence, and mutual gain. Now, Vernon has asked Victor to serve as the keynote speaker at his grandson Martin’s (Brandon Claybon) fundraiser. Friends with Martin since they first bonded in New York City after college, Kyle Abbott looks forward to attending the fundraiser after Martin extends him an invitation. Kyle will arrive alongside his parents, Jack and Diane. Abby and Devon are also on the VIP guest list and will see Devon fielding an unexpected business opportunity from Anita Dupree (Tamara Tunie). As the evening unfolds, a shocking event occurs, abruptly derailing the fundraiser and triggering dramatic consequences that will affect every guest in attendance. Though the second-ever crossover event between “Beyond the Gates” and “The Young and the Restless,” this will be the third time the new soap opera has crossed over with a CBS sibling, following a crossover event with “The Bold and the Beautiful” in October 2025, which saw Thorsten Kaye appear as his Ridge Forrester character from the half-hour drama series. Broadcast weekdays on CBS and streaming Live and On Demand on Paramount+, “Beyond the Gates” is the first new daytime soap opera to premiere on network television in more than 25 years, since the launch of “Passions” on NBC in July 1999. Distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution and produced by CBS Studios, as part of the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, in partnership with P&G Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble, “Beyond the Gates” was created by head writer Michele Val Jean, who also executive produces alongside Sheila Ducksworth, Julie Carruthers, Tracey Thomson, Leon W. Russell, Derrick Johnson, Anna Saalfeld and Lela Coffey. 20. Y'all didn't hear it from me (you did!), but expect more white folks to be cast on the show. There's nothing wrong with that, of course, but just giving a heads up as I know people will complain and think it's whitewashing what's already been established as a predominantly Black cast show.
  21. Right. I only mentioned Josh Griffith because he is the show's head writer. What's interesting is that Amanda L. Beall is no longer the de facto head writer for WGA nominations, as she's listed as just a writer this year. In previous years, including last year's win, she was listed as head writer for WGA nomination purposes.
  22. The Writers Guild of America West (WGAW) and Writers Guild of America East (WGAE) announced nominations on Tuesday for outstanding achievement in screenwriting, television, streaming, news, radio/audio, and promotional writing during calendar year 2025 for “The 2026 Annual Writers Guild Awards,” taking place on Sunday, March 8, 2026 at the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE (hosted by Atsuko Okatsuka) and at the Edison Ballroom in New York City. Competing this year in the Daytime Drama category are “Beyond the Gates” (CBS), “General Hospital” (ABC) and “The Young and the Restless” (CBS/Paramount+). This marks the first-ever nomination in the category for”Beyond the Gates,” which premiered in February 2025. “The Young and the Restless” took home the award in 2025 for material aired in 2024. Led by head writers Michele Val Jean and Robert Guza Jr., the nominated writers at “Beyond the Gates” include Sara A. Bibel, Jazmen Darnell Brown, Ron Carlivati, Susan Dansby, Cheryl L. Davis, Christopher Dunn, Gregori J. Martin, Lynn Martin, Danielle Paige, Judy Tate and Teresa Zimmerman. Represented by head writers Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten, the nominated writers at “General Hospital” include Cathy LePard, Emily Culliton, Nigel Campbell, Suzanne Flynn, Charlotte Gibson, Kate Hall, Stacey Pulwer, Ryan Quan, Louise Rozett, Scott Sickles and Micah Steinberg. Over at “The Young and the Restless,” the soap opera is led by associate head writers Jeff Beldner, Marla Kanelos and Dave Ryan, with writers Susan Banks, Amanda L. Beall, Marin Gazzaniga, Rebecca McCarty and Madeleine Phillips. “I am beyond thrilled and excited to congratulate the Writing Team of #BeyondTheGates for our first Writers Guild Award nomination! You guys rock and I’m so grateful for all of you,” commented Michele Val Jean in a post on X (formerly Twitter) in response to the nomination news. For the full list of nominees in other categories, visit www.wga.org or www.wgaeast.org. Editor’s Note: As has been the case for several years, “The Bold and the Beautiful” did not submit itself for contention. Additionally, this marks the first time since 2017 that “Days of our Lives” did not receive a nomination after previously winning for four consecutive years (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024) under then head writer Ron Carlivati, who took home his sixth win in the category overall after previously winning in 2015 and 2016 for his work as head writer of “General Hospital.” Due to his going fi-core status during the 2007/2008 Writers Strike, Josh Griffith, head writer and executive producer of “The Young and the Restless,” is ineligible (see story) for a WGA nomination. Note: The post WGA Awards: ‘Beyond The Gates’, ‘General Hospital’ & ‘The Young And The Restless’ Nominated For Daytime Drama first appeared on Soap Opera Network. Read More
  23. I'm aware of the show receiving its first-ever WGA Award nomination opposite GH/Y&R and the casting of a new doctor, which I'll be reporting shortly. Otherwise, no clue what they are talking about (yet?!)
