Maree Cheatham, who this week reprised her role as Marie Horton on “Days of our Lives,” will make an appearance in the Thursday, November 13 episode of CBS’ “Matlock,” portraying a nun, an occupation she’s familiar with from her time on the legendary soap opera. In the episode, titled “Harm Reduction,” Matty (Kathy Bates) and Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) continue to test the boundaries of their friendship while helping a group of nuns. Meanwhile, Olympia and Sarah (Leah Lewis) become roped into secretive activities within the firm. What are you looking for in a soap opera website?
Dear Members, As Soap Opera Network begins celebrating its 25th anniversary (October 8, 2026), we will be welcoming diverse and distinct voices to our growing roster of writers in the coming weeks. These individuals will provide readers with the latest updates on all the soaps, including news, recaps, and opinion columns, among other content areas. Additionally, we will be ramping up interviews with stars from all across the world of soaps, past, present, and future, as well as internationally, in both written and digital formats, such as written, audio, podcasts, and video-based one-on-ones, among others. In light of the site's continued growth, I was wondering what kind of content members of the SON Community might be looking for as readers and/or viewers of daytime television programming. Are there any specific features you would like to see on the website that are not currently available? What do you expect to see on a site geared towards soap operas that no other site(s) are currently providing? I believe the SON Community is the right place to ask such questions, as you are all some of the best and most knowledgeable individuals when it comes to our nearly 100-year-old genre, thanks to your dedication, passion, love, and interest. Ideally, I'd appreciate any input via email ([email protected]). However, since this is a message board, people might find it easier to post a response rather than send an email. You are more than welcome to reply in either format at your leisure, if interested. Please note that all input is valued and appreciated. That said, there's no guarantee we can accommodate any/all suggestions. This post is to gauge what one would like to see on a site dedicated to soaps, particularly on Soap Opera Network. P.S. This inquiry is in reference to the Soap Opera Network website, not the SON Community. Any issues/concerns about the SON Community will be addressed/discussed in a separate post, to be published at a later point this month, as we prepare for the launch of a new layout/design for the SON Community, as referenced in this post. If you have any further questions or concerns, unrelated to this inquiry, please don't hesitate to contact me at [email protected]. Thank you, -Errol ----- Errol Lewis Publisher and Editor-in-Chief, Soap Opera Network www.soapoperanetwork.com Email: [email protected] | [email protected] Social Media: Facebook | X | Instagram | YouTube | TikTok

ARTICLE: ‘Days of our Lives’ Celebrates 60th Year on Television
“Days of our Lives,” the long-running scripted television drama that aired on NBC for nearly 57 years, and has been airing exclusively on Peacock since September 2022, is celebrating its 60th anniversary today, November 8. Created by Ted Corday and Betty Corday, “Days of our Lives” debuted with its very first episode on November 8, 1965. TV Guide Magazine described the show as Macdonald Carey starring as Dr. Thomas Horton, a professor of medicine in a New England college town, with Frances Reid appearing as his on-screen wife, Alice. Set in Salem USA, the show expanded to one hour on April 21, 1975, and continues to feature a daily dose of drama, romance, mystery, and suspense, while following the core principles of life, love, and conflicts with stories revolving around the Hortons, as well as the Brady, DiMera, Kiriakis, and Hernandez families and their many friends and colleagues. In addition to its dedicated audience in the U.S., “Days of our Lives” is also enjoyed by millions worldwide, including in territories such as Canada, Sweden, New Zealand, Israel, South Africa, and Australia. Earlier this year, the series was nominated for 13 Daytime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Daytime Drama Series, marking the highest number of nominations the series received since its exclusive debut on Peacock. Paul Telfer, a mainstay at the show since 2015, won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actor for his portrayal of Xander Kiriakis. He is only the third actor in the show’s history to have won the award in the category. Marnie Saitta took home the Emmy for Outstanding Casting, marking her third win out of 14 nominations throughout her career, and the third overall for her work as casting director for “Days of our Lives.” The current head writers of the show are Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford. Their material began airing in April, following the exit of former head writer Ron Carlivati, who won the series four consecutive Writers Guild Awards for Daytime Drama (2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024). Ken Corday, son of Ted and Betty, has been the show’s executive producer since the passing of his mother in 1987. Noel Maxam is currently co-executive producer, although his name will not appear in the credits as such until at least early next year, due to the show’s advanced tape-to-air schedule, which was 10 months ahead at one point this year. Janet Drucker, who retired in May 2025, is credited as co-executive producer in episodes currently airing. Earlier this week, the show unveiled its first cast photo in several years, which you can scroll through below. ARTICLE: Peter Stormare Guest Stars On ‘General Hospital’ As The Replacer In Sponsored Tie-In For ‘Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7’
I actually don't play as much as I used to, but I am still a gamer at heart. I was actually looking forward to buying Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, and this promo by ABC with GH actually reminded me when the game would be coming out. So, IMO, it was a silly little spot, but it got me to buy the game. So, it did its job.

ARTICLE: Peter Stormare Guest Stars On ‘General Hospital’ As The Replacer In Sponsored Tie-In For ‘Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7’
This week, “General Hospital” promised a familiar face would be landing in Port Charles, and it turns out the show was referring to “The Replacer,” an iconic character played by voice actor Peter Stormare from the “Call of Duty” video game series. The Replacer (Stormare) appears innocuously throughout the Friday, November 7 episode, with a busy Felicia (Kristina Wagner) walking around the fictional General Hospital floor handling official business when she’s handed a thick folder from a mystery man, who, while walking off, catches a pencil that nearly falls to the floor. “Ooh, there you go,” says the mystery man, who does not identify himself. As he approaches the elevator, Felicia, who is suspicious, begins to question the material that was just handed to her. After a face-off, the man disappears. The scene ends there, but the soap opera later shared an extended version, which finds the man returning to the hospital desk where he handed Felicia the folder, leading him to identify himself as Felicia puts him in his place, discussing Stella Henry (Vernee Watson) had gone to play “Call of Duty: Black Ops 7,” the latest game in the franchise, which is set to be released on all platforms on Friday, November 14. Stormare’s appearance as The Replacer was part of a sponsorship tie-in with the ABC daytime drama series and video game maker Activision to help promote the release of the game, with his legendary character doing what he does best – stepping in so that people can stay home and play “Call of Duty,” this time filling in for the hospital staff and stirring up more chaos than usual in Port Charles. Incidentally, Stormare also appeared on “Good Morning America” this morning, where he was featured as a director and meteorologist during a promotional segment. ABC Outside of “Call of Duty,” Stormare has a vast number of acting credits to his name, including voice work on several video games, roles in such shows as “Tracker,” “1923,” “The Box,” “American Gods,” “The Blacklist,” “Prison Break” and “Entourage,” among others. His most recent film work includes “Until Dawn,” “Off the Grid,” “Day Shift” and “Beyond the Sky,” among others. Watch a sponsored online-exclusive clip from “General Hospital” below. Watch Stormare on “Good Morning America” below. In an ad for the game, Stormare appears as a replacement coach for a high school basketball team. In another spot for ESPN, he replaces an ESPN commentator. Check out those clips below, and much more. ARTICLE: ‘General Hospital’s Rory Gibson Stars In Sci-Fi Film ‘Fugitive From Asteron’ With Henry Ian Cusick & Dean Cain
Since joining the cast of “General Hospital” earlier this year, Rory Gibson has been making a name for himself, with fans enjoying his portrayal of Michael Corinthos and many anticipating him being the person to beat in either the Lead Performance or Supporting Performance: Actor categories at next year’s Daytime Emmy Awards. In the meantime, Gibson is preparing for the launch of his latest film, “Fugitive from Asteron,” an adaptation of Gen LaGreca’s award-winning novel, which released its official trailer on Friday ahead of American Film Market (AFM) 2025, the premier film acquisition, development and networking event, which will be held next week in Los Angeles. Directed by Dan T. Hall (“Noble Vision,” “Greek Fire – Demon Spirit”) and executive produced by LaGreca’s company Winged Victory Foundation, the film, currently in its final stages of post-production, was shot in both Southern California and Central Indiana, and also stars Henry Ian Cusick (“Lost,” “MacGyver,” “The 100”), Morgan Bradley (“American Skyjacker”) and Dean Cain (“Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman”). In the film, Gibson plays a young pilot, Arial, who escapes from the oppressive Planet Asteron by stealing the spacecraft of the ruler, Feran (Cusick). With a mysterious cargo on board, Arial lands on the future Earth and adopts a new name, Alexander. Feran hotly pursues him for the cargo, a powerful, new instrument that is a vital part of Feran’s secret plans for Earth. Alexander allies with pilot Kristin Merrett (Bradley) to unravel the nature of the cargo and confront an urgent threat that jeopardizes Earth and all he holds dear. The story weaves together adventure, romance and mystery as Alexander embarks on a quest to save the Earth and an inner journey to discover freedom, human happiness and the pursuit of a life worth living. Cain plays Mykronie Whitman, the head of the Interplanetary Travel Division at Merrett Aerospace Systems, who escaped from Planet Asteron 25 years ago. Jam Murphy (“Through the Modern Looking Glass”) and Jim Krueger (writer, “Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks”) round out the cast. “The trailer for ‘Fugitive from Asteron’ gives audiences a first glimpse of a story rooted in the timeless quest for freedom and truth,” says LaGreca. “Bringing this vision to the screen has been an extraordinary creative journey, and we’re delighted to share a sneak peek ahead of American Film Market 2025.” “AFM is the ideal venue to connect with distributors who believe in bold, idea-driven filmmaking that entertains while igniting the imagination. We’re delighted to present our film to global buyers attending AFM,” adds D. Paul Thomas, a producer on the film. La Greca’s most recent film, the drama/thriller “Noble Vision,” which tackles the bureaucracy and politics of the U.S. healthcare system, was released in fall 2024. The film garnered many awards on the festival circuit and is currently available on all major digital platforms in North America. The film’s cinematographer was handled by Mark David (“American Cowslip”), with Pauline Jones (“Jurassic Domination”) serving as line producer and Paul Ruddy as casting director. Check out the official trailer for “Fugitive from Asteron” below. Founded by Gen LaGreca, Winged Victory Foundation’s mission is to communicate and champion the ideas of freedom through the magic of storytelling and the arts. The charitable 501(c) (3) organization produces programs and holds events for educational, artistic, and literary purposes, including the production and distribution of films, stage plays, and novels, as well as support for dance and music composition. It also offers grants to nonprofit theatre and community groups to produce their own plays or show their films. ARTICLE: Erika Slezak Concludes Run As Ronnie Bard On ‘General Hospital’, Thanks Fans For Support
While she taped her last episode as Veronica Bard on “General Hospital” in late September, the same day she made her debut, Erika Slezak doesn’t officially conclude her on-screen return to daytime until the Thursday, November 6 episode of the long-running drama series. In the episode aired on Tuesday, November 4, it was revealed that Martin (Michael E. Knight) had created a fake version of Monica’s will, which resulted in Ronnie (Slezak) inheriting Monica’s house, which Alan had given to her. With the discovery of the genuine will, in reality, Ronnie only received a locket and sufficient funds to purchase a home of her choice in Duke Forest, a neighborhood in Durham, North Carolina, which Ronnie noted was her favorite. Meanwhile, the true “sister of her heart,” Tracy (Jane Elliot), received the Q house. “I can’t believe she even remembered that,” said Ronnie after hearing what was in Monica’s will, as stated by Ned (Wally Kurth). “Oh, my god,” Ronnie continued in tears. Addressing Monica’s spirit, she added, “When I was 16, you turned me away, and now you’ve given me a house. Thank you so much.” “The remainder of my estate, including all financial assets, I leave to my beloved grandson, Michael Corinthos III, with the exception of the property at 66 Harborview Drive, Port Charles, New York. The house given to me by my husband, Alan. The home where we raised our family, which I leave to the sister of my heart, Tracy Angelica Quartermaine,” said Ned of the actual statement written in Monica’s will. Looking over the new will, Michael (Rory Gibson) points out that the only thing changed from the real will to the fake one was Ronnie getting the house instead of Tracy, although Ned notes that the jar of Pickle-Lila, which, per the fake will, was to go to Tracy, was another addition by Martin. “Told you Monica would never be that cruel,” responded Tracy in response to the pickle reference. In a message shared via her official fan club, Slezak commented on her time on “General Hospital,” while thanking her fans for their support, saying, “Thank you so much for all your emails. I am delighted that you’ve been enjoying my work on ‘General Hospital.’ I am very grateful for the kind words you have shared with me. It was wonderful to work again in a medium I love. My experience on ‘GH’ was fantastic, and I hope you continue to enjoy the show. ‘GH’ has an incredible group of actors and writers, and I am honored to have been part of it. Many sincere thanks for watching. Love, Erika.” “I’ve never played anybody like Ronnie… She’s just a hardworking woman who literally had to make her own way in life, because Monica sort of turned her back on her when she got out of foster care,” Slezak said in an interview with Soap Opera Digest, published on Wednesday. “At 16, she’s out in the world by herself. She’s got to get a job, she has to make a living, she has to find a place to live. She started work as a waitress and decided she liked it and never left it; she never aspired to anything else, except that she knew she was smart and she wanted to learn more, so she went to community college and she essentially educated herself. She wasn’t stupid, but she never had the advantages of a rich life. And I’ve never played anyone who was — and I mean this in a good way — as simple as Ronnie, who’s just worked hard her whole life,” commented Slezak, discussing her character on “General Hospital” in comparison to that of Ronnie’s sister, Monica, who was supported by Gail Baldwin, who put her through medical school. “It was a terrific opportunity for me and I’m very, very grateful and glad that the audience accepted her and that our former ‘One Life to Live’ viewers tuned in and enjoyed seeing me in a completely different role,” Slezak continued. In a preview for the Thursday, November 6 episode, Ronnie is summoned back to the Quartermaine mansion after Tracy kicked her and the rest of the Q family out for siding with a stranger and not her prior to the real will being discovered. On the Wednesday, November 5 episode, Gio (Giovanni Mazzo) was seemingly able to talk some sense into his grandmother, pointing out she is now the head of the family and it’s up to her to set things right. In an episode dropping Tuesday, “General Hospital” star Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) sits down with Richard Taite, host of the “We’re Out of Time” podcast, to discuss a possible new love storyline and reflect on his legacy as a mental health advocate. In one clip, Benard discusses his character’s chemistry with ADA Turner (Nazneen Contractor) and whether romance might be on the horizon between the two. I know I’ve done well, but it’s the mental health.” Recalling his appearance in a 2006 episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” where he revealed his bipolar disorder, Benard says, “I was proud to do it, but nothing really happened with mental health from that, except I’ve seen a big change with the pandemic. ARTICLE: Zach Tinker Goes ‘Beneath The Light’ In Latest Film – INTERVIEW
“Days of our Lives” and “The Young and the Restless” alum Zach Tinker is keeping himself busy outside of daytime with starring roles in several upcoming film projects, including “The Dregs,” “Face of the Earth” and “The Toast.” Meanwhile, Tinker’s latest film, the psychological thriller “Beneath the Light” from writer/director John Baumgartner thatwas co-written and produced by Dr. Cindy Davis Seng, a psychiatrist at the Cleveland Clinic, sees the actor playing a young man who, at the end of his rope, returns to his hometown after his mother’s passing to take a job repairing an isolated, haunted lighthouse. Shot entirely on location in and around Lorain, Ohio, including the town’s iconic 108-year-old Lorain Lighthouse on Lake Erie, Zinker took time to speak with Soap Opera Network about the film, including how it inspired a murder mystery game and novelization, filming during the Hollywood actor and writer strikes, which required an interim agreement/waiver to proceed with production, and whether he’d be interested in returning to daytime soaps, among other topics. First things first: “Beneath the Light” is pure fiction, despite a marketing campaign that might make it appear otherwise. “They’re trying to make a real world out of it—a whole inclusive experience. But yes, it’s a standalone, fictional story,” says Tinker, referring to the video game and novel add-on experience that can be had on the film’s official website, beneathelight.com. As for his own experience shooting the movie in Ohio, particularly the lighthouse scenes, Tinker says the location is “very creepy and isolated and old and run down, which is always nice. The less you have to pretend and the more you can exist in an atmosphere, is always great as an actor, the less you have to be.” That said, he notes that the interior shots were done on a soundstage. Still, his time at the physical location of the lighthouse for exterior shots helped amplify what his character is going through, sharing, “If you’re on a sound stage and you’re like, ‘Okay, I’m in this creepy lighthouse.’ It’s like I was there and we were there. So it was very advantageous, at least to me as an actor, to be on the set, on location, feel the atmosphere, not push anything, and really respond naturally.” Vision Films Describing the film as psychological horror with a mystery element, Tinker points out that, for the most part, “Beneath the Light” is like any other movie, easily crossing genres, particularly through its dramatic elements and even comedic beats. In the film, Tinker plays Jacob, who is left alone for extended periods by the surly lighthouse owner, Jim Murdoch (John Pyper-Ferguson). As his isolation and uneasiness grow, he is forced to confront his past mistakes or risk losing his sanity forever. While the circumstances wouldn’t be something that Tinker would allow or accept for himself, he says his character “doesn’t have many options, and he’s just desperate enough for work and for purpose that he’s just like, ‘All right, screw it. I got to do what I got to do.'” As Jacob falls headlong into a series of mysterious and frightening experiences that make him question his sense of reality and confront his long-standing anxiety and memory gaps, a budding romance with his childhood friend, Olivia (Anna Nicolle Chavez), provides comfort for the young man. However, the key to his redemption lies with the lighthouse owner and the unexpected bond they share. Zach Tinker Vision Films Laying out the characters and their backgrounds, Tinker reveals, “John’s character, Murdoch, and my character are both very tortured, depressed, and angry individuals, at least at that point in their lives. [Olivia] is troubled, and she’s the only real source of light in the film. So, more than a point of romance. I look at it as if she’s this beacon of hope throughout the course and this source of positivity [for Jacob].” Shot in October and November 2023, Tinker says that despite the dual strikes taking place at the time of filming, “There wasn’t really a difference to be felt on set. It still felt like a normal movie production.” That said, he did mention that the main difference, if any, was that the actors “weren’t really auditioning for anything else and all your friends were at home just twiddling their thumbs.” Meanwhile, commenting on the lasting impact of that period on productions, he noted that even after the strike ended, he feels “the industry has not really returned to its former self post-Covid [and] the strike.” As for working in Ohio itself, he says, “It was interesting. It’s very different from L.A. It’s a very different world from L.A., especially in Lorain, a small, quiet town that’s rebuilding. It went through hardships, and now it’s trying to rediscover and rebuild itself. And I think that was the coolest part: when I went out there for the premiere [in early September], the best part was when the film referenced certain things. In the movie, there’s a line where I’m saying, ‘Oh, I went to Lorain High School,’ and then my character goes, ‘Go Steelman,’ which was their mascot, and the whole audience was like, ‘Whoa!’ and freaked out. And that was really charming and really made me happy to see people find this joy in seeing their town be represented.” Speaking of the premiere, we wondered how different it was from the typical Hollywood style, which Tinker recalled as “less glitz and glam, but more hometown pride and real care. It didn’t feel like —and this is no shade to Hollywood and premieres out here —but a lot of the time, people go to premieres to be seen, meet people, and network, and that’s part of the industry. I do that too, but it was literally just people going to see a film that was filmed in their hometown, or they knew people involved in the film, or they supported the director in making the film. And so that was it.” The time he spent in Lorain was memorable for Tinker, who says he’d love to go back even if just to hang out. “It’s a very quaint, smaller town, so there’s not a lot to do and explore, but I lived there for a month filming the movie, a month and some change. So really, when I went back to the premiere, I remembered my routine when I was there. I’d film, but on the weekends, I’d go to this gym, and I remember the drive and the routes.” Further, “It really felt interesting going back to this place where I lived for some time, and it’s got a real charm to it, and I have a real place in my heart for the people in the town.” Considering his background in soaps, particularly with actors mastering the skill of memorizing lines and dialogue, Tinker says he carries that experience with him in everything he does. “You’re forced to memorize not only lines, but sometimes not very natural dialogue. And so it’s always helped me in everything I’ve done. Also, you have to have your #$#$ together —pardon my French —because you really only get one take and one shot at doing it. So I think it helps me, because I’m not an actor who needs four takes to get my lines and be in it. I can hit the ground running.” Outside of “Beneath the Light,” Zinker just wrapped the comedic horror film “The Dregs,” which was shot in Canada and also stars Nava Mau, Maddie Phillips and Charlie Gillespie, among others. “It’s an ensemble comedy about this group of friends that goes to Italy for a friend reunion, and they drink this cursed bottle of wine, and then one by one they start exploding and [they try to] reverse this curse.” Another film coming out soon is “Face of the Earth,” which was shot in Puerto Rico a few years ago, as well as “The Toast,” which follows a desperate wedding party scrambling to prevent the drunk Father-of-the-Bride from giving a disastrous welcome toast. Zach Tinker Todd Williamson/Peacock Despite a thriving film career, Tinker wouldn’t say no to returning to soaps, revealing if producers called him tomorrow asking for him to come back, he would. “It’s ironic, I was there for a year and a half or two years on ‘Days of our Lives,’ and they asked me to re-up, and I turned it down and left, and then I did ‘Fire Country.’ And, at the time, it felt like the right move. I’ve been doing a lot of indie films, and they’re creatively fulfilling, but man, they don’t pay the same. So now I’m like, ‘Man, I should have just stayed there.’ But look, I’d be more than thrilled to go back and get to play with that group again, whether it be ‘DAYS’ or ‘Y&R’ and explore Fen and who he’s become, because I know last time I was there, there was a big revelation. So I’m sure he has some backstory to unpack. I’d be thrilled.” With Halloween right around the corner, Tinker looks forward to audiences giving “Beneath the Light” a chance, saying, “I think it’s a really fun ride. I think a lot of people would enjoy it, and I think it’s worth a watch. I would encourage people to watch it and try to guess the twist ahead of time, and it’s something to watch in October for sure. It’s a spooky movie with scares and mystery, and I think it’s a fun ride. I would encourage people to take a peek. “Beneath the Light” is now available to rent or purchase on several major streaming platforms, including Fandango, Prime Video and Apple TV.
