I am very cynical about GH. I feel like I have seen a lot of the current stories, and the half-a$$ed attempts at showing any negativity towards the mobsters, quite a few times over the years. It never lasts. Even Sonny shooting his wife in the head after she gave birth was something which somehow made him a victim.
I know as a new viewer it's a very different perspective. So for that reason, the ratings may go up, with the publicity about Franco. It's too bad the stories are, in my opinion, so wretched, as that may prevent bigger increases.
True, it is different for me as a viewer than longtime viewers. I had more than a few people "warn" me about GH and Guza. But I decided to watch anyway because I wanted to try something different -- who knows why..
I'm not a total newbie - I watched GH back in the late 70's, early 80's when I was a teenager, but that was a lifetime ago.
As far as James Franco goes, while I'm a fan of the actor -- I thought he was wonderful in "Milk" -- I'm not particularly excited about his story. My only hope is that the story leads to something interesting.
The ratings for GH aren't setting the world on fire by any means and they won't until they get the storytelling together.
Just saw the press release for Days. That's great news for the show. They've earned those ratings.

ATWT shouldn't suffer a fall and I do agree with you about Y&R, but they usually rebound after losing alot of viewers the past few weeks same with B&B. No soap or show should suffer anything i'm tired of people losing their jobs.

Oh, good call, dc cubs. They probably don't count the same-day DVR numbers.
You're right.

And by last week I meant the numbers that were *reported* last week. Perhaps they report "final" numbers?

Good call on the DVR numbers. That would be a likely explanation.

Yeah, I'm expecting Y&R to go up some. I think they have a lot of very patient viewers.
I'm also not surprised if GH goes up. For all my complaining I do know the show can appeal to a certain audience and these stunts probably help some.
I do hope OLTL, DAYS, and ATWT improve.

I think AMC is now more and more of a GH clone. The main difference is AMC has no mob, but then, they don't need an official one thanks to Ryan, Zach, etc. Y&R is also similar to GH these days.
GH wants to be different, but really isn't. All the tough guys are really pouty little boys, never able to do much beyond feel sorry for themselves.
These differences only matter to people who watch soaps which most people don't. To the "outsider" like Franco, OLTL, DAYS and B&B are all the same.
