OLTL: Updated opening version one (07/05)

No it is just one of many.

I can't wait [/sarcasm] to see how badly they miscalculate when they fire contract cast members to pay ME's new salary. TW and HBS seem on their way out already so who else and how much more can the show stand?

I thought ME was leaving?

I don't think so.... I heard rumors that he was but I read something that said he decided to stay.

According to SOW he's holding out for a LOT more money.

Today we saw version two of the updated opening.

Here is today's order...

John, Natalie, Vincent, Layla, Evangeline, Cristian, Antonio, Jessica, Paige, Bo, Asa, Nora, Lindsey, R.J., Rex, Adriana, Dorian, Viki.

If Michael Easton does get that hefty raise, that would be a huge slap in the face to any soap actor asked to take a pay cut. Frankly, he's not that good and not worth the increase. He acted the same way on DAYS and was horrible there, too.

I really pray that goes.

I hope he goes too. However, I don't believe anything anyone affiliated with OLTL has to say. This is the same type stunt they pulled with Natalie. I'm not drinking that Kool-Aid.

I'd take bets that Michael Easton isn't going anywhere. OLTL stirs that [!@#$%^&*] and creates in order to generate this mass uproar, oh please, please, keep ME.

Mark my words, he isn't going anywhere.

Hell they already are re-creating the show around him. Look at the new openings. Yeah right, they want us to believe they are killing him off at the same time they make him the star of the show? Right. Mark this one up to another OLTL stunt.

And really, could they have led off with more unappealing couples? Let's ignore the fact John and Evangeline are relatively new characters and the fact that Paige, Vincent and Layla are Frankie and Hackley newbies, those couples they start out with are just hated, yet they are the ones this show pimps.

It's amazing how disconnected TPTB at OLTL are with the viewing public, just amazing.

I'm glad they kept Catherine Hickland and Timothy Stickney in the opening. Despite being seen a rare few times a month, they remain fan favorites that many wish to see more of. I hoped that OLTL was giving them a storyline with Nora and Hugh, but it doesn't look like there will be too much to that after the last few episodes. It's a shame too, I think the Nora/RJ/Lindsay/Hugh quadrangle would be the only one worth actually watching. The Lindsay and Nora rivalry is gold, and could easily once again become a hit with the fans, given the screen time it so rightfully deserves. Until an episode a few days ago, I never even thought of a potential Hugh/Lindsay pairing. OLTL may have inadvertently found their next great storyline. The only question that remains is whether or not they'll be smart enough to capitalize on their fortunate luck.

What gets me is the snub they have given to Nathaniel Marston.

The previos opening had the Michael/Marcie couple shot and then a solo pic. of Marcie and then Michael. This first version of the updated opening has the same couple pic. of Michael/Marcie followed by just Marcie...but no Michael. And the second version has no Michael as well.

Unless they are going to have third new version of the opening tomorrow (which is soooooooooo not needed) with Michael in it, it is a great snub to Michael and Nathaniel.

Agreed. I'm so very close to dropping this show. Nathaniel deserves better and so does his fans.

This is also the part that bothers me. Clint was my favorite character on the show ever and I also loved Clint & Viki. (I didn't like how Clint was basically made to be the bad guy to facilitate Viki and Sloane but whatever.) I'm not averse to seeing them with other people but given the history between Dorian and the Lord/Buchanan families, not to mention Clint's attitude towards her for the last two decades, I'm just finding that pairing very weird. This is no slight to JvD at all, since I think he's doing a great job as Clint, but I keep picturing Clint Ritchie's Clint telling Dorian over the years what she could go do with herself. I mean, he didn't put up with her manipulations and vindictiveness. I did wonder when JvD came on board just how much, if any, Clint's personality would be "modified." If Dorian stays true to character, then either they'll keep Clint's integrity and truthful nature intact (meaning she'll be lying and keeping her various power plays and schemes secret from him) or Clint would have to become more like David in terms of accepting Dorian as is. Either way, I can't help but think Clint's character will be the one to suffer for it--either by coming off as a gullible sap or by becoming very un-Clintlike.

The other thing that bothers me that I notice that they've been doing to facilitate this pairing is that Viki is keeping her mouth shut to Clint about the recent things Dorian has said and done. Viki comes off looking like the uptight, unforgiving one when she doesn't mention things like how Dorian said at Duke's funeral that it was better that Duke was dead and not Kelly. I mean, it's not even about Viki not considering herself as a romantic rival, because I don't think that she does. I'm not talking about her tattling on Dorian out of jealousy. I'm just surprised, given all of their histories and long relationships, that Viki doesn't even say squat about Dorian's insensitive comments and behavior. Makes me think even more that both Clint and Dorian's characters are either going to be modified to be more compatible or it will be a case of him totally buying into her tricks.

Me too.

I like JVD and think he's a great addition. Clint's one of my long time favs and I missed him when he was gone. Now I'm ready to see him leave and it's not a Clint/Viki thing. It's an I don't know who this Clint is and I'm not liking him very much. Clint's return for me was all about his kids, brother and father and then about Viki. I was very hopeful for a C/V reunion, after Viki did some repair work because of the Sloan thing, but I would have been fine with them moving on to new people and being friends. As it is they give me nothing. C/V's relationship seems to have regressed to the state it existed during Sloan in many respects and I see more of Clint with Dorian, Nash and Antonio than Asa, Bo, Kevin, Nat and Jess. I'm not interested in Clint's relationship with Jessica's himbos, I'm interested in seeing JVD's Clint create a believable relationship with Jessica. The Dorian thing makes zero sense to me in light of the decade plus worth of history that Dorian has hurting CLINT as well as his kids and Viki. The growth argument doesn't carry much weight after Dorian's performance at the funeral where she announces Kevin's sterility to an entire church. The timing of this great so called romance doesn't work either. Clint's out sniffing Dorian while . . . Viki is now unintegrated with the possiblity of Niki running amock still, Jess is unintegrated with a new baby of her own, Kevin's life is a disaster, Asa's near death in the hospital, Bo's being framed and at one time Clint was himself suspicious of Spencer. So with all that going on Clint, the huge family man, pretty much takes a powder and spends his time with Dorian? Maybe if we SAW Clint involved with the other stuff the Dorian stuff wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb but we don't.

Clint and Dorian as a couple is a horrible, idiotic mistake.

OLTL should've dropped the pic of Marcie and Michael together and just showed the separate pics of Nathaniel Marston and Kathie Brier, or they could've just kept the pic of them together.

I wish OLTL would've put Ilene Kristen(Roxy) and Patricia Elliott(Renee) back into the opening. Elliott is still listed as on contract and Kristen is as much a fave as Cat Hickland(Lindsay) & Tim Stickney(RJ), I also think the under-rated Patricia Mauceri(Carlotta) should still be in the opening too.

Great post Cal3 That is exactly my problem with Clint now too. He isn't there for his family, he is off sniffing for sex with his family's worst enemy and letting all of his kids and his brother, his ex and his dad out to dry. This Clint cares more for anyone except his family. I don't even like him as is, and I really don't get how Clint has this pity party going on as if he is the only one in pain in town so therefore he gets to go over and find comfort while everyone else can just die for all he cares. They haven't shown hardly any Clint with his bio kid Nat, which is just ridiculous. There is no family concern from him at all. Kevin has mentioned going to see Asa over and over, has Clint ever mentioned it? NO. Natalie was in the hospital after the tornado injured, Viki saw her, did Clint go see her after Nat practically died? No. Kevin has been drinking and Clint knows it, is he there to help him? No, at least Viki is. What was the point in him being brought on to the show if all he is doing is spending all his time with his new Cramer family and Nash. Are they going to start calling him Clint Cramer next week when again he spends his time with Dorian and Kelly, but not his kids and family? Why isn't Clint there for Bo? I don't even care what happens to Clint now because he has shown me via onscreen that he doesn't care about anyone in his family.

I'm with you on this. I just fired off e-mails to Frons and Valentini about it.
