That is totally bizarre that BTG went down in the demos but up in total viewers. I wonder which demographic caused the rise?

Thanks for the explanation.

HUGE numbers of the main demos stopped watching that week but HUGE numbers of over-55s tuned in?

I think it makes sense to question these numbers.

I wouldn't call a 3% rise in viewers huge. The demos are a VERY low percentage of the broadcast audience. In the Live + 7 numbers Errol posted for the first 42 weeks of last season, women 25-54 made up only 10% of BTG's total viewers. For the other 3 soaps it was 8%. So fluctuations between viewers and demos makes perfect sense.

So the soap audience is essentially ancient? Sounds like it.

well, i prefer boomer to ‘essentially ancient’ — but, yeah.

why? hard to say — maybe we boomers have a bit more patience than the target demos. maybe it’s ‘hope watching.’ this show is squandering so much potential and we are waiting to see if the writers can pull their sh** together and the whole will finally exceed the sum of its parts, because we’re old enough to remember what soaps have been in the past.

i do wonder though if the issues with the narrative structure are some effort to appeal to the younger demo. if so, it ain’t working.

The median age of soap viewers is almost 70! I believe Errol posted that data a couple of years ago. I seriously doubt it has dropped significantly.
