  • Amazing interview with Sheri Anderson. So much history with other writers. Lots and lots of information and stories. This interview definitely deserves its own thread!

She talks about the process of writing, what it's like to be a scriptwriter, breakdown writer, head writer, script editor. She names past soap writers and what it was like to work with them, working under other writers, working alongside other writers, finding writing staff to work under you. Working with producers. What they did in the old days when an actor wasn't fitting the writing, or a pairing didn't have chemistry --- how/if the writing could be adapted or not.

A lot of of information, all interesting!

Sheri gives a lot of info on how it came to be written that Luke raped Laura, and the influence of producer and network, and how the longterm process of writing it was done. Therapist brought in. A lot of background information. What the head of the network said.

When she talked about Brad Pitt on AW she also mentioned Matt Crane. Was she suggesting that Brad auditioned for Matthew Cory or did I misunderstand? Brad Pitt was on AW about a year before Matt Crane was cast I think and Daniel Dale was still playing the slightly younger Matthew at that time. I can't think of any other teenager/young man roles that were cast in 1987 on AW except maybe Sam Fowler but that doesn't mean they weren't looking.

I actually sat down last night and watched the entire interview. It was great. I wish they had spent more time talking about her runs on AW, FC and GL, as well as what it was like to come back and work on DAYS twice (although, I'm delighted to know she wasn't a fan of Marlena in the pit either, lol), but I get why she and Fairman focused on what they focused on. I'm also glad that she hasn't closed the door entirely on returning to daytime, even if it's not as HW. Y&R could use someone who knows how to write good, romantic stories that sweep you along and make you feel something other than constipated.

I loved the Marlena in the pit story because the lead up to it was done well and I think it shows how talented she was as a head-writer that she still managed to make it work and the fall out from that is still felt to this day.

I would have prefered to hear more about her time in Days in the 80s and how it was to work with Maggie Depriest vs Racina & Laiman. Too much time was focused on GH.

@Khan She was barely at AW (maybe two or three months) so I doubt she had much to say about that period. And based on what she said about GL, it didn't seem like a good time nor a good fit for her.
