The Gatekeepers are truly engaged. That has to make TPTB very happy.

I love these snark posts.

The show definitely plays it too safe quite often, which I think can be detrimental to both stories and characters.

I enjoyed today's episode and thought it was an interesting way to explain Kat's change in behavior after she wakes up. She's hated Eva for so long (with reason), so there needs to be a reason why she steps back. I never saw the episode as propping Eva and not sure how it made her look better. It just showed her in Kat's place.

I wanted Martin to lose the election. As others have said, he can't be shown the correct way as a congressman and it would make the show take Martin/Smitty in a different direction. How would it be if Smitty was now the main "bread winner" because of his reporting while Martin took on the role of stay-home parent? Maybe Martin would realize how unappreciative he's been of Smitty and what he's done for the family. Would Martin think he needs to do something bigger? Even though raising kids is a full-time and important job on its own. If not the most important.

I do hope this is a turning point for Leslie and they tone her down from the cartoon theatrics she had in practically every scene for the past 6 months at least. It was a good schtick for a while but got tiring.

Jacob and Izaiah are both goody two shoes.

How is Iziah even remotely goody two shoes? Him and Jacob are for sure opposites. Plus in comparison to his girlfriend Iziah isn't a antihero. I know that much. I would say his ambiguity is one of the things the writers nailed. I just hope they stick with it even after Kat and Eva's medical crises.

The only variation I could think of for Luke is for him to be a bend the rules cop to go up against Jacob the by the book cop. Or better yet have Luke come into town because he's decided to go to Banneker to get a law degree and become a lawyer because he's tired of running through the streets. That could also set up the idea of him being Bill's enemy in court some years down the line.

I liked that Kat's two greatest horrors in her dream were Anastasia's report that Kat got zero votes for Golden Deb, while the lovely Eva swept the election. And Chelsea selected Eva for her handbag venture 😅

Izaiah is supposedly reformed so to speak, and there isn't the tiniest hint that he used to be some bad boy in his earlier years. It's been all talk when describing him the same as it was for Andre.

I disagree that this episode was meant to prop Eva, I think the episode was an opportunity to go inside Kat's head and get a chance to see things from her perspective.

Things I liked:

  • The alternate universe Duprees were a lot more fun and interesting to watch.. can we get a little of that in the real world.

  • Eva/Tomas as a couple shows that maybe Kat isn't quite over what had happened between the two of them.

  • Kat realizing that she's letting her bitterness and hatred of Eva affect all aspects of her life was a breakthrough. She isn't going to like nor trust Eva, but she understands where Eva is coming from and perhaps now they'll be cordial with one another going forward. And also let Eva 'hang herself' and then everyone will see that Eva hasn't changed.

  • Eva feeling guilt once she found out Kat wasn't awake yet.

  • Alternate Universe Nicole was pretty fun to watch.

Overall.. a good episode and Kat's reactions to what she was seeing was a hoot.

I felt it was tending to Eva propping (and I'm Team Eva already), but those are fair points. I also felt like they were propping Martin. He feels guilty about Kat, so he's absolved. And someone even mentioned they were on good terms when she went into surgery, so it's all fine.

I started cringing when I saw it was a dream sequence, because BTG has had some godawful dreams/recreated flashbacks, but all in all, it wasn't too bad. I agree it could be seen more as Kat's internal conflicts and insecurities.... that she will lose her family and status.

That part.

I get a true kick out of The Gatekeepers, otherwise I just ignore all other trifling complaints.

I'm going to respectfully disagree. Let me tell you I love Colby Nixon. She is rocking it, but Kat, she a needs a peg or two pulled.

Kat is supposed to be a more gray character because of her obvious class issues and self-centered ways. She treated June rudely at one point and there was no reason for that at all other than June had been unhoused at some point. The character has been framed as elitist from the very start of the show.

I find it fascinating how divided everyone is on yesterday's show - half of us loved it, half of us hated it. How funny!

Agreed, I like Kat, but let’s not forget that her first set of remarks to Eva was making fun of the way she was dressed before she knew who Eva really was. With Kat, even when she’s right, she goes about it in the most absurd ways sometimes that I can’t always find sympathy for her. It’s like she’s often obsessed with proving that she’s always right than the actual issue or problem at hand. I’ve worked with people like that in a professional setting and they’re often their own worst enemy.

on behalf of Leslie and Eva though? its F them all day for what they have done and how they continue to move. The fantasy segment was BS bc Eva was never treated as poorly as Kat was in that

No her first interaction with Eva was catching her snooping around Nicole's patient files and accurately clocking that she was up to no good. If you are gonna call her out for that then tell the full story which provides context for her reaction. She insulted her clothes after bc she already did not get a good vibe from her for good reason. Was it rude? Yes, but she saw right through her
