Some people don't like Kat, so the Colby praise is muted. I'm not only #TeamKat (understanding and appreciating her feelings about Eva), but I think Colby has been a star on this show.

I must be the only one who likes the character of Kat more than the actress. Kat has some interesting idiosyncrasies... her issues with sex, her not wanting the genetic testing, and what we saw in the previews. It's like she has the appearance of being this perfect little rich girl but she doesn't act and think the way you're "supposed" to, like the other Duprees generally do. The writing has layers which I would like to see the actress play with more nuance. She was screaming a lot yesterday, but yeah, she was much better today. The character needs someone like a young Heather Tom who can show both strength and vulnerability.

This was a nice end to the week. A little more low key in a good way, getting most everyone out safely but leaving some big threads hanging, especially Dani/Bill, Martin, and Eva.

If this were Bill Bell's Y&R, Martin would end up impotent from the accident and struggle with his masculinity and feeling like he can't be a leader anymore.

I don't mind Joey saving Abby but he didn't even get injured or anything?

Andre was so compelling, how his entire demeanor changed when he heard Dani's voice... he was so emotional... wow, great job. She is trash. Love that Hayley had Bill's number already.

Anastasia was back to her old self, atta girl!

MVJ definitely needs to slow down with her unwarranted fascination with Jon Lindstrom - the character is awfully written, but there is nothing interesting about Lindstrom’s performance either. Frankly

  • I personally don't think that disliking White Savior Joey is an indication the character is working. If it's a choice between King Joey and Duprees Strong, I choose neither.

Count me as someone who feels the same. I think Kat is perfection as a soap character. I also like the actress very much, but there are a few things that Colby does that take me right out of the scene. I have actually mentioned these before. There are instances where it feels like Colby is recalling her lines as she is saying them. Reminds me of back in high school when the Type A student who is super nervous of public speaking would literally memorize their class presentation. They would then get in front of class and it was like they were reciting a speech instead of just remembering key points. It sounded rehearsed instead of natural speaking. I sense this with Colby and I feel she is a perfectionist, so she wants to nail those lines exactly as they are written on the page every single time. That is amazing- but many times I can almost feel and see her thinking about the lines as she is reciting them. She has these tiny awkward pauses between words and lines sometimes which give off the wheels are churning energy. It's like she is saying ok what do I need to say next.

Finally the show delivered some drama. I didn't find everything successful, but having Kat and Eva trapped was classic old school soap. As was Bill and Dani. I can see Jacob and Kat developing feels for each other, now that they've both endured these traumas.

Soaps gonna soap. Dirty deeds done dirt cheap...

Andre is going to be in pain when he finds out about Dani and Bill elevator hook up. I really hope Andre doesn't turn to Ashley.

I feel conflicted about this. 🫣

I really don't want Andre to turn to Ashley, but I think this time around it might actually work.

I know some can't stand her, but I think she's gotten a lot better.

Since Victor's helicopter landed at the Country Club and the party was at the Country Club, why did Victor and Vernon get into the limousine? Where did they go?

Vernon mentioned he wanted to take a moment with Victor before introducing him officially and have a private toast with him. Also, while Victor did land at the Country Club, it's possible he was not at a walking distance from the entrance.

Victor took a helicopter from Genoa City, WI to DC? That dont make no damn sense! Helicopters can go up to about 300 miles on the high end on a single take of fuel. The distance from WI to DC is about 700+ miles

He might have just landed at the airport with his jet and then boarded a helicopter to get to the CC.

We know Kyle and Hayley kiss coming up (it's in the promo for the week). I thought this was an interesting take. I wonder if they are leaving it out there so when Hayley gets busted she needs a new mark. Maybe one in GC? Would they cross her over like Sheila? Who knows? Just a thought. I like Hayley now...someone I didn't like for a long time.

I think they're setting the stage for KYLE to come back on BTG and maybe testify he kissed Hayley or something, to discredit her.

Jack: "Andre Richardson the photographer? We have tried to hire you several times"
Yeah another reminder that the Andre character seems to be inspired by Malcolm Winters.

Is every handsome Black photographer going to be tied to Malcolm Winters?

I said it once and I will say it again: if Joey was black the show would be accused of pushing negative stereotypes. Joey has to be white and his sister has to be white. If Heather was a biracial woman that still could be a problem for the show. BTG is in it's beginning stages. It has to be white kingpins/queenpins first. Then the black or latino ones might come later.

Sorry but the problem isn't just Joey being a cartoonish mobster.

The problem is he's depicted as infallible and always one step ahead of the rest of the community - which also happens to be mostly Black.

Also: anyone who's dabbled in writing and/or producing just knows that the writers are enamoured with the Joey character and they're doing a disservice to everyone else just to pimp him.

Well I think the other issue that some people say the mafia references are outdated because in real life the mafia has supposedly lost more of it's power. I'm unsure if it's true or not because I wasn't born in the big city and I'm not a criminal.

The mafia is mostly white collar today, embroiled in financial schemes. But then again 'mafia' as in a group of people resorting to crime and violence to gain power and money is such a broad concept. For example lobbyists and oligarchs are also mafia, in my view :)

I just think the character has a limited shelf life and needs to see a downfall and be done in the next year.

You've been saying that nonstop since Feb '25 and I wanted to believe you but in the meantime the character's been upgraded to contract and he's gained a central role in every story and a family member... It doesn't bode well for us.

Also, mark my words: Joey hasn't killed Doug. He's faked Doug's death to send him off somewhere to cure his addiction and pay his debt forever. I'm calling it.

C'mon Mike Manning--you wouldn't kiss one of the male characters?

Cringe and lame. Come to think of it, every actor should've been allowed to pick characters from any gender. Hetero-normative content.

This crossover seems pointless. Really all that was needed was Victor, Devon and I guess Abby as his date.. The rest seemed like random info dump about Y&R history that is irrelevant over here

I agree to an extent... too much Y&R trivia.

  • Peter Bergman (Jack) and Jon Lindstrom (Joey) in a scene together is fun, considering both Bergman and Lindstrom were up for the role of Jack following Terry Lester's exit in 1989.

Oh right! I forgot about that! Such a shame JL wasn't cast as Jack. We would have been spared both Aunt Jack and maybe Joey Armstrong too.

BTW I love you daily commentary. Would you consider adding the episode number in the initial credits paragraph?

Because it’s Victor….lol

All joking aside maybe EB was only signed on and only able to do his 2 appearances.

He's expensive and also old. I can't picture him being able to move around a tornado-hit country club.

You guys may be right that Colby is still somewhat green but to her defense:

  • the dialogue is clunky, it doesn't roll of the tongue most of the times and it is far from Bill Bell's Y&R;

  • Colby is acting opposite Tomas, Jacob, Ted and Nicole - and those actors are not exactly Eric Braeden and Melody Thomas Scott to say the least;

  • these days actors have no time to rehearse.

So I'm hoping she improves and wins you over )

BTW I love the Martin/impotence idea...

MVJ has worked in the soap business for years and has become friendly with a lot of the performers. I think she low key has a crush on JL.. and he was cute when he was younger. Me wonders if she made him audition for the role or if she just cast him because he was JL? I know that Ashley Jones had to audition at least two rounds before she got cast as his sister so at least someone outside of MVJ that didn't know her had to assess her abilities to play the role (she had a promising first day..imho).

Sadly, I went on MVJ's twitter and she was praising Tracy T (her co-headwriter) so I doubt we'll be free of her anytime soon.

The downside of being a new performer in the medium and the fast paced turnaround time for filming is that you don't have time to rehearse and to truly get to know a character. I think Colby has done a good job putting some coloring/layers in her scenes... but I also think she chooses to play Kat as keeping her emotions in check and presenting Kat as someone that has a mind of her own and won't always go the Dupree way. Remember, she's the only one that has had legit reservations about welcoming strangers into the fold unlike the rest of her family.

Lastly... I do hope Kyle and Hayley do interact again soon... if Y & R were run by compotent people.. I would say to bring Hayley over to Y & R because I think she would be a good fit on that show. It would be nice to have that social climber character that doesn't quite fit in on that soap again.. but alas, she would be wasted on that soap with who is in charge now (and I get tinges of Nina Webster when seeing Hayley sometimes).

This tornado came completely out of nowhere and Im not sure why they are having an event like this randomly in the second week of June and not during Sweeps. Its big yet small time. Almost all the major characters just so happen to be at the country club? I would expect to see more jumps t other parts of town where others are effected

Still dont understand why the Y&R characters needed to be here unless they are seeding future storylines. The Kyle/Hayley pairing seems random and it would only fit if they plan on transfering her over to Genoa City once her con is exposed to Bill

I agree---the tornado was kind of random and not very well executed. I guess they chose having a crush of extras vs setting up a fire.

I have a theory --I don't think those history dumps were random. Something soapy went on around Kat and Eva's births.

I think Lindstrom would have been a suitable Jack; however, I don't know if he really would have excelled in the same way that Bergman has. I know there is still some discourse on him replacing Terry Lester in the role, but I do love his Jack all the same. I am also interested in seeing clips from when Brett Porter portrayed the role for Lester in 1986. Sorry... tangent, ha!

Oh, thank you! I can absolutely do that, yes! Beginning Monday, I will include the episodic number (something I debated doing but never did). 👍🏻

They've certainly laid enough groundwork for something to have taken place. Either next week will confirm something happened, or lay theories to rest permanently.

Having worked with directors in theater and independent film, I know what a director does, but in terms of daytime dramas, for the last twenty-odd years, I don't really see evidence that a director actually guides actors. Maybe there isn't enough time but I really wonder what a director actually does on a daytime soap today? I mean, what is their function? Colby has improved a lot and has certainly become a capable actress but I can't help but feel that a good director could coax her into elevating her performances that much more, although the writing hasn't always been able to take her there.

I get the same impression you do - ie soap directors not directing actors any more, not giving notes or reining them in when necessary (cough//Stafford). However for what it’s worth, listening to Owen’s interview on Soapy (can’t remember his family name, he’s a director at Y&R and God only knows he’s worked with Budig on AMC lol) he did mention challenging actors and implied giving notes… who knows.

I am pretty sure Ed Scott used to give notes at Y&R and possibly at every show he was at but he was the executive producer. So confusing.

I feel like I'm losing my mind a little bit 😂

A couple days ago I mentioned Colby Nixon for doing great work, calling her one of the best actors on the show. Since then, I've seen pretty much nothing but criticism or qualified comments like "She's green" and "She pauses like she's memorized the script."

I know we're all entitled to our opinions. I just didn't think Colby would be the one on this show who's acting would be criticized. I can think of so many others, frankly.

Sorry that’s an unfair (and slightly paranoid) reaction. Two people have expressed doubts regarding her overall skills and I responded not minimizing their opinions but trying to find common ground. As far as I’m concerned, Kat and Colby are literally the only reason I’m watching.

Hah, well, the other day I said she deserved a razzie and then I was reading comments that she's great and doing Emmy winning work, and people don't like her acting because they don't like the character, so I kind of piggybacked onto one of your posts to explain why I wasn't as impressed with her because I felt like I was the one taking crazy pills, lol. So... sorry? ) But it's been an interesting discussion! But of course, yeah, there are others that are worse (a lot of them are the more seasoned vets, IMO...).
