If I'm being 💯 about it I think Jan is a fine supporting part for a solid daytime vet (probably someone from the P&G soaps), as opposed to someone from the production location who is clearly cheaper. Which seems to govern some casting. I get the rationale, but I would start going through the ATWT/GL, etc. rolodex myself.

Who do you think would be good for the show among the ATWT/GL cast?

I like that there are a lot of local performers on this soap and I'm glad they've resisted so far on hiring too many soap performers.   Cady has been awkward on the show thus far and Jon seems to have polarizing as well.

I say focus on the local talent and giving those people a job and exposure.. and leave the P & G soap opera performers in the past.

Just rambling...but I love this show much and how it has me interested in finding out.

It's great to see. My thoughts might be a little different, but for the most part, I am excited and interested in most of the storylines.

I'm seeing some interesting takes on this thread regarding Dani's behavior/personality, including right now. Here's my take on her:

I think that Dani relishes in lighting people up. I think that's for multiple reasons.  I feel like Dani has probably largely been like this throughout her life. And that she gets joy in dragging people whenever she feels like it's necessary. I believe she feels like this is her being herself.

I think one big reason why she's particularly giddy right now is because she's able to go back to acting this way, minus the hurt she's been dealing with due to Bill's affair. She got in Bill and Hayley's faces after their affair/wedding, but she was miserable doing it due to dealing with the hurt of that situation.

Nicole's situation with Ted/Eva/Leslie allows her to act this way minus her suffering like she did at the hands of Bill. I believe she does empathize/care for her sister but is also interestingly enough rejuvenated by this situation.

This situation is energizing her and making her act more like old self again, minus being hurt by her own's husband's infidelity. I think Nicole's situation is also a distraction for her from dealing with her own failed marriage to Bill.

Yeah, you're right. This is probably how she (Dani) normally acts. And, I do not like it!  I agree; this is another distraction while she heals her wounds. If I weren't an Eva fan, she helped me root for her even more. As I said a month ago, I hope they take their time with her modeling agency. I would love to see her face a few obstacles before becoming a huge success.

Jon is stuck in a story that isn't popular but with Cady I feel like the issue is that she was clearly thrown in with no real purpose. I still don't understand why she pops up. I recall early on it being said she owned a spa but we've never seen it. That could've been an interesting location for people to meet. She also could've worked better as Smitty's mom, but instead we get this random agent of Dani's who pops up twice a month? A total waste.

I mostly agree. I do feel like Jan could be elevated with a name soap actress, someone like Judi Evans or Kassie DePaiva comes to mind, but they're limited to who is in Atlanta. Keeping that in mind I think the current actress is fine.

When I see how bad the Ashley/Derek scenes are, I know there must be a larger purpose and Joey being her father is the thing that makes the most sense.

Ashley and Derek have to go- they really throw off the pace of the show.  Today was the first time I fast-forwarded through their scenes. The writing and acting is just bad for both characters.

I don't mind Jan either. If anything, they could be using her more to get her daughter's POV. Not to mention her role as one of the Have-Nots.

I also don't mind the local talent. Just look at soaps that were in NY or the shows that film there, they always go for the local talent and we get to find new faves.

So true. Their hypocrisy is on another level. When Anita called Ted a coward because he used Bill as a fixer, I almost choked on my Ritz. And Dani calling Ted worse than Bill as a husband because Bill never pretended to be a good person? Then why stay with him for decades and continue to kiss up to him, Dani?

I was glad when Bill told Anita he wouldn't be her punching bag.

Not for me. I can think of 100 other actors who would have smoking hot chemistry with LB. Lindstrom does not. I see zero chemistry. None. Joey isn't sexy or scary.

-- Mona was awesome today.

-- Why was Eva playing cards in the back room of the casino?

-- Can they make Anita any more sanctimonious and self-righteous?

-- Dani said Anita had Ted shook. LOL. Really?

No. But I see what you're trying to do.

This is a SOAP OPERA. Characters HAVE to make mistakes and sin and screw up and cheat. That's the deal.

I understand the concern that we have 2 leading Black men who have cheated on their wives. I do. But I also understand that this is SOAPS 101. Are we going to hear complaints every time a Black character messes up???

I don’t even know why you responded to the bait.

I don't agree that we're supposed to like Dani in obnoxious mode.

I think Dani was written over-the-top intentionally for the first few weeks of episodes, to get the viewers to be evenly divided as to like/dislike the character.

I don't think Dani is being written over-the-top or obnoxious anymore.
I think Dani is now more of a background character who is being assertive but still in the background of Nicole.  Nicole is the lead of the show.

Same.

But given how the writers like to have her have good moments and bad moments...and Dani has been background as of late...it's about time she had some bad moments.

But, you have to admit, Dani seems to be, relishing in the fact that she is not the only one in pain, or had a trash husband. That's how it is coming across to me, she is enjoying this too much!

I think Dani cares about her sister, but I agree with you. She's using this whole mess to be heard and make herself feel better. I wish Ted and Eva told her to fck off.

I had to laugh when Dani commented on her and Anita confronting Ted. She acted as if they destroyed him. That's not what I saw.

Dani has been dialed back from those first weeks, but I can't say she's likable. As long as she's throwing shade at Eva for her work as a hairstylist -- while ignoring that she did nothing except eat celery sticks and walk the runway -- she can kiss off.

The gambling story was tolerable but Jon Lindstrom sucks in the role.

Barely tolerable, and Lindstrom is terrible in the role. I don't find him scary at all, and his money laundering plan is stupid as hell.

I gagged when he texted Vanessa to ask if she was thinking about him. That's throw up time.

I just don't see how that makes Ashley any more interesting. And are we really asking for another storyline where a father connects with his adult daughter? I know there's no direct parallel to Eva's story, but come on.

....while Jen Jacob gets flustered and weepy over "Daddy" or whatever would come of that storyline. Putting them together sounds like a recipe for doom to me. But I may be in the minority on that.

If you're in the minority, I'll join you. I have zero interest in any of that.

-- I still fail to see Nicole and Vanessa as best friends. Nicole is grounded and stable and responsible, and Vanessa is not. It made more sense to have Dani and Vanessa being close.

-- Ashley and Derek were actually OK today. I feel sorry for the actors, honestly, because they've been given nothing. It's crazy, because so much of the rest of the show is firing on all cylinders.

Im convinced that had Karen Huger not been in jail, Anastasia was meant to be her recurring role

I could see that. But alas.

They feel like a bad Three's Company parody.

I was finally warming up to Eva but today, that girl, what in the world was she thinking, crawling back to Mama saying she was under a lot of pressure. Pitiful.

And, just what did she get for her trouble? Rebuffed, totally.

Anastasia, she can go kick rocks. Who needs her & what was she wearing?

I'm surprised to learn that some people did not have an appreciation of Dani & then Anita, right after, at Theodore's. I thought they were both right on the money & also sharp, witty.

Ted, of course, is playing at being Impervious Man, which is very funny & he takes it one step further, making all these declarations of his intent to woo Nicole back & win her trust again. I find myself laughing so hard at him & at how he has totally misread his circumstances. He has zero chance but wow he has so much confidence. This I find to be so humorous, possibly unintentionally so.

Edit to add: What does Alexander Dumas have to do with anything? And why are people seeming to be mad at him?

Not all friends are alike though and there should be a counterbalance in some friendships on soaps. Dani has already been all over the place enough and doesn't need an unstable friend.

It also seemed like she wanted an excuse to go over Bill's and yell at him.
