I'm surprised that the magazine lasted in print for as long as it did.. when the quality started to decline in the early 2000s.  And I had heard stories about the toxic office environment with Stephanie Sloane, Hinsey, etc.

The thing that really made me think that SOD was finally going to go away from being a print edition was the Locher Room interview with Sloane, Hinsey, etc... and I kept to thinking myself 'you're all living in the past and it's no wonder why SOD looks so poorly put together and a relic of the old days'.

I think that coverage in the magazine should have been more about interviews with actors on current and past soaps, more in depth opinions on the current stories on the 4 soaps, and maybe even a look back at past popular stories on current and old soaps.. maybe interview the headwriter/stars that recalled that story, etc.

Another they they liked to do: They recently did an anniversary spread for Becky Herbst for her 25th on GH, and all they did was spend the WHOLE interview asking her about her co stars. Nothing about her or anything like that

Ridiculous

Okay, what about their Special GH60 Issue? I thought it was just the best, great coverage, etc.

Yeah, an end of an era.

I can only assume that how hard it was to get an issue in some areas did not help. The post office definitely hated them.

I have had good memories, bad memories, and looked foward to the BEST AND WORST issues every year. So it will be missed.

What is the oldest SOD you have? Here's mine. SOD May 1976.JPG

May 1976, a very young Suzanne Rogers on the cover, Vol. 1, No. 6, 60 cents, 112 pgs. There were 15 soaps covered in their recaps.

I have the June 1999 where SOD spent the last day at AW out in Brooklyn with the show & every page is about that.

Wow that's an oldie but goodie.

Can't forget Most Beautiful Women issues...

Well they have done photoshoots, but they are few and far between

I feel like, for the better part of the past ten or so years, they've relied on networks/independent photo agencies (ie: JPI).

Well, damn.  Who am I going to ask if me and my friend have a steak dinner riding on a bet if whether Eileen Davidson was born a man or not?🤣

🤣

The trusty California Birth Database will have to debunk that from now on:

Name Eileen M Davidson
Sex female
Birthdate 06/15/1959
Birthplace Los Angeles County, California
Mother's Maiden Name Burkhard

The last SOW I bought back in 1997.

The SOD I bought from 1991 had a letter/comment that I had submitted via email. It was published in that edition.

To be clear, the weekly digital SOD mag will go on. It’s the weekly print version that’s being cancelled.

Where does it say they will continue as a digital only magazine?

Yes @Errol I was wondering, I'm confused if they're just getting rid of the PRINT magazine or both?

I don't think anyone knows any details about what DIGEST is going to be like now. Will they have weekly deadlines? Will they do feature stories? Will the 4 print issues be special editions? Will they continue with the podcast? With Best & Worst? With Thumbs?

They were in an impossible position. Being overly critical resulted in the shows punishing them by limiting access. Yet lack of criticism drove readers away.

During my middle/high school years I'd often find an empty cashier lane at Publix and do my weekly SOD reading (no allowance, no job and frugality. Don't judge me.) Memories.
