To be fair, they didn't meet until they were in their 20s

With regard to Alex, I find it difficult to define why I think he is so cringy.  The baritone vocals, the shallow advice, his poor fashion sense, it just gives me the icks whenever he's on-screen.  It's not the memory of Ben, who has receded in the vast wasteland of my mind.   And, it has nothing to do with the actor, who seems to have been crafted in Dr. Rolf's lab for soaps.

Historically, I am a fan of soap meatheads.  I watched the whole plane crash in Haiti story (before most people were born) just to see Carlo Forenza, with his perfect hair and Fila tennis shorts.  But, for whatever reason, Alex just doesn't do it for me.

Speaking of meatheads, Brady's overly plucked eyebrows and carefully trimmed beard are getting out of hand.  That is neither a color nor a shape found in a nature.

Finally, we know Shawn's an alcoholic because he chugs straight from the bottle (which is really gross when we consider that it is a public bar and customers are going to be served from that bottle).  A good ol' soap wino never uses a glass (or a mixer).

I mean, Max did date his niece Stephanie as well who he did know his entire life, so it's a bit of a pattern.

It is really a shame that Nicole, John and Marlena weren't at the memorial.  I can understand Nicole might think it was in bad taste to go, but John/Victor had such an interesting relationship in the 90's and were quite close after Isabella died.

Why are bars giving Shawn the entire bottle of booze?  The small bar has given Shawn the entire bottle of whatever he drinks multiple times and that's literally illegal.

I guess there's no chance that Shawn's not an addict. But, he only wanted one sip today, and Belle is driving, so that's progress...

Or I'm a cultural co-dependent...

Also, so soapy that everyone referred to Chelsea as Shawn's sister, just in case we forgot how they are related.

Yeah, because a wink should be a priority in Victor’s funeral episode

I knew Ron and his biggest cheerleader were gonna try to do something like that. And just like with the Sonny/Leo pairing, the Soap Gods intervened and stopped that bullshit dead in its tracks

I think it’s a combination of both writing and acting

A whole week without Leo. That’s always a good thing.

I enjoyed today, but once again, everything was so rushed. The scenes were all good but they really need to take their time with a lot of stuff, like Sarah giving birth, John and Dick Van Dyke, etc.

The only thing that didn’t seemed rushed was Vivian’s storyline. I don’t mind it, and I hope that it’s used to drive other storylines as well. Maybe this’ll finally give Gabi and Stefan something to do instead of just meddling.

And now that Victor’s will is missing and the other copies have been torn up, I hope this means that we’re getting a mystery surrounding his death.

Btw, I love how nobody rushed in to tell Maggie that her daughter was giving birth outside

I'm not sure he does it for anyone!

Today was a real whirlwind show. In one day we have a new baby girl but something's wrong with Sarah. Vivian's the new widow Kiriakis & I'm sure she'll throw Maggie out into the street any instant now. And they let DH2 express fan feelings about the many retcons of John Black & gave him a new papa in just 2 weeks of DVD.

"A few quick changes"? I think a few more changes were needed to that dialogue. Giddens' excuse is lousy. If they had time to bring in another actor/character, they had time to properly write dialogue that didn't have us shaking our heads.

Weird excuse, and I'm not buying it. You mean Lions Gate execs waited until ALL of these budget busting scenes were planned and filmed before saying anything??? That's just not believable.

Dick Van Dyke is a national treasure, but am I the only one who's already tired of his appearances? Just leave already.

That's just Jamey. Wasn't it Sonja Alarr? Maybe her lack of experience means she can't pivot? They should have re-written the entire scene. In the scheme of things it was just half a page.

No, I'm not tired of him. I just wonder if the story today was too pat. And, why aren't they immediately talking about DNA testing?

John's new backstory was resolved in an episode?!!?  After all these years and all these false leads that's it?   It's all very silly and so quickly done, but whatever.  I have long since stopped caring about John's origins lol.  At least the DH's seem to be in on the joke of John's past at this point.

The Sarah birth scene was so disconnected from what was going on a few feet away inside.  I don't understand why Chloe or Xander didn't alert her mother and everyone else.  That's just sloppy writing.

    • Yes, they did.  I still have them.  I think there were three.  AMC and GH as well.
    • Ah okay, thats what I thought. I was hoping I missed the announcement somewhere. Thanks for the clarification.
    • A new day in Salem… and a new day for Days.  I like the way everybody found out and absorbed the news about John’s death, and how they all eventually found their way to Marlena’s to offer their condolences. I’m not particularly sure why they waited until the next day to tell everybody but I don’t really mind it.  We finally got Roman’s perspective! His scenes with Kayla were one of the best parts of today. I’m glad that Roman is thankful for everything that John did for his kids. I agree with posters who said that he should’ve had a scene like this with John, but I’m happy we got this at least.  Julie was used very well today too. She’s definitely the best person for Marlena to have scenes with at the moment. Hopefully, Julie continues to be there for her. And yes, I totally agree with Marlena and Belle sending EJ away when he came to the apartment. I’m curious to see what’s going to happen to his and Belle’s relationship in the aftermath of all this. And, while I enjoyed most of Brady and Kristen’s scenes, I still think the ship has sailed for them. Hopefully, the aftermath of John’s death causes Brady to finally end this thing with her once and for all.  And, I see a lot of people were wearing some kind of shade of purple today.

    • Wow, I love that current and former actors are participating in this. I barely recognize Staci Greason! She looks fine, just very different. But I will be happy to hear anecdotes from her. I shipped RoJohn and Isabella hard back in the day, and I sobbed buckets in my dorm room at college when Izzy B passed. Honestly, I'm interested in everyone's stories. Drake seemed like he was well loved among the cast.
    • When she first appeared, I was sure she was setting Tyrell up for a prank. She was too much of a manic pixie dream girl- I wasn't surprised Tyrell also became suspicious. Now I'm not so sure. If Jessica genuinely likes Tyrell, it seems like a missed opportunity to not have started her out as a bully, then we see her gradually catch feelings for Tyrell.  The McBrides are definitely the "C" family of BTG. They always get last priority. There have been a few times where the Doug/Vanessa/Joey characters reference off screen conversations which seem too important to not show us. Like when Doug thanked Joey for giving him extra time to pay off the loan. When did that happen? Or when we abruptly moved from Vanessa/Joey at Uptown to Vanessa/Doug in the hotel room. The McBrides don't even have their own set - even though Vanessa is a realtor. It's a shame because I am a fan of the characters and actors.

I am also adjusting to KR as Ted but I feel that AM and MJ had way more chemistry as father and daughter than AM and KR. We saw Eva dream of having a real relationship with MJ's version of Ted for months so it's a bit of a bummer not to have that payoff with the original actor except for those scenes in MJ's last episode.  Something I noticed about Eva today is how she takes genuine delight in being a schemer. As badly as she wants to be a Richardson, she still has so much of her mom in her. It was jarring seeing her earnestly promise to steer clear of Leslie in her scene with Ted, then immediately switch attitudes when her mom showed up.  I'm very surprised with how quickly the accident story has been moving along. I was sure that it would be months if not years before people figured out it was Leslie on the motorcycle, not to mention responsible for the potassium overdose. I'm looking forward to seeing how MVJ and Guza avoid writing Leslie into a corner.  Finally, I have been loving the Articulettes story. Bonita Brisker was just the right amount of OTT - remember Sharon is supposed to be even more angry than Tracy is. If Sharon didn't come in swinging, people would say she fell flat. The way Sharon and Tracy describe the breakup is so Supremes-meet-Original Recipe Destiny's Child. I get the sense that MVJ is re-writing the Return to Love Tour as a roman a clef, and I love it. I'm looking forward to finding out what the secret they share is. If Dante Green is as shady as Berry Gordy was, it's something dark. If/when they go through with the reunion, I expect Dante to show up and claim to own the Articulettes trademark in a Lou Pearlman-esque twist.
    • Other than hanging out with Liz, all of Lucky's stories have been stalled out or dropped; the relationship with his son; his wanderlust. He hasn't been involved in any of the action/adventure or con artist stuff. I don't think he's even had a scene with Sidwell since the latter came to town. He's a real after thought. I doubt he's long for the show.
