Y&R 50th Anniversary - your ideas...

With Y&R's landmark anniversary just a few months away, heaven only knows what Josh Griffith will come up with.

Maybe we SON posters can give him some ideas. I'm sure what we come up with will be better than what we see onscreen.

My first thought is a one week clip compilation segment paying tribute each day for a week to the 5 decades. eg Mon 1st 10 years, Tues next 10 years etc

Story wise , maybe news comes in of Brock's death - a tribute to Beau Kayzer

Lorie, Leslie, Jill, Julia, Mac, Murphy,Gina return for a memorial service a chance to show old clips- although this might be a bit limiting as it  would exclude a lot of characters.

Maybe Jabot 50th anniversary?

Your ideas?

I wouldn't mind a Jabot anniversary that brings together the Abbotts, Jill, etc., for a gala that ends up with Jeremy aiming to shoot Diane, but instead Kyle or Jack gets shot in the crossfire, causing Ashley, Nikki, and Phyllis to feel guilty about bringing this man to town in the first place. And Diane goes off on each one of them, promising that if anything happens to Jack or Kyle, they will answer to her.

I know it would never happen, but I wouldn't mind a primetime episode leading up to next year's Daytime Emmy; perhaps CBS/Sony gives them some bucks to make the show look better.

Perhaps a look-back documentary with past and present stars including Janice Lynde, Jamie Lyn Bauer, John McCook, Eric Braeden, Peter Bergman, Jess Walton, Victoria Rowell (yeah, I know), Shemar Moore, Heather Tom, Susan Walters, Michelle Stafford, Bryton James, etc., counting down 50 moments from the show's 50 years.

I think it would be amazing if they devoted an entire primetime episode to a 50 year retrospective of the show!

To piggyback off of @Paul Raven, here’s another 10 memorable moments:

Nikki killing her dad

The farmhouse saga with Sheila, Lauren, and Molly

Victor trapping Michael in the dungeon

Dru and Sharon falling off the cliff

Victor shot by Mari Jo

Lauren buried alive

Traci dumping the sundae on Lauren

Katherine and Jill catfight in the attic

Sheila and the baby switching scene

Phyllis runs over Paul and Christine

I will mention some moments from early 2000s, because thats when I started watching Y&R and some of my favorite moments are from those times:

- Matt pulls out the breathing tube and places it in Nick's hand

- Billy and Mac are named Prom King & Queen (Jill's face was amazing)

- Cassie's death scene

- Jill learns she is Kay's daughter

- Tricia shoots Ryan

All above are excellent choices!  I will add some below:

  • Victor's back from the dead- from Kansas
  • Nikki's miscarriage from Jack's baby.  The scene where the mother brings the child to Jack and Jack just breaks down.  It was great for PB.  I still think this could somehow be a future storyline. (Just saying)
  • Nick and Sharon Wedding
  • Danny and Cricket's Wedding
  • Jill running around to break up Mac and Billy's wedding
  • Cricket's Rape
  • Lauren puts a nude photo of Paul in a dirty magazine
  • Victor's heart attack and Jack kicking his foot
  • Malcom sleeps with Dru
  • Kevin sets himself on fire
  • Kevin in the boxing ring

    • I really have no problem with Kai as a character or with the actor. The problem is putting together two very nice people -- Kai and Trina. Neither of them has a bad side, neither of them has a devil on the shoulder, neither of them is impulsive. I think that's a problem in a soap relationship. Yeah, I agree. All this freaking out might make sense if Lulu wanted to do a tabloid expose on BLQ's LOVE CHILD. We have no indication that's the case.
    • So Sonni would have somebody to talk to who she wasn't conspiring with (Will or Alan)? Alex kept telling Sonni how important her friends were...when she had virtually no friends. Instead they created loyal servants like Jane and Vera to give Alex people to play off of. They did that with Iris on AW, but Vivien was mostly there for comic relief Alex keeping Marah's paternity a secret was absurd. But I still love the scene between Alex and Alan where he convinces her by reminding her how they protected each other from their abusive father. Chris and Bev ATE that scene. Unfortunately, that took place only a few months before he exited the show...always thought they could have built on that, explored more how being Brandon's children screwed them both up. Maybe even used it as an explanation for the way their relationship could constantly swing from hatred to love. Instead of it being merely dictated by the plot.
    • The first one is Cass Winthrop dressed as Krystle Lake on Another World (not from his original creation of the character to hide from the loan shark Tony the Tuna, but at a romance convention trying to find out what had happened to Felicia who was missing). The second one is also Another World, Jake McKinnon as Doris although I don't recall what his purpose was.
    • I know there was one brief scene in the summer of 1989 where Lillian did mention Calla.. but in relation to her past relationship to Ross and it was to Roger while he was a patient at Cedars.  I think he was trying to pump her for information on Ross.. and for some reason, Calla's name came up.   I could see perhaps Beth mentioning that her mother Lillian was visiting Calla.. but not exactly giving any sort of details as to the going ons in Calla's life off screen.

    • They're neither great nor terrible AFAIK, but it is more a question of the streaming numbers in this day and age vs. actual TV airings. The Chibnall era reminded me much more of the crisis years, but I do think it's a very real possibility now as well due to the streaming bubble collapse affecting the show and its prospects.
    • ANYTHING to get her off the screen..she COULD have been interesting if she and Van had a few face offs..(there was a mild one of her going back to work...but I wanted something meatier "Bitch, I am Vanessa Chamberlain and I don't take advice from someone who followed the..career path you did!" I did like Alex's outright disdain for her.
    • Thanks @Vee for the commentary.    I haven’t even watched this season yet after  I couldn’t get past the couple episodes last season…like it was too Disneyified for my taste, although I did think it was a least better than the Chibnall era (but so is a lot of things). I’ll probably go back and binge it now. Hoping this season ends on a high note. I did read the ratings are terrible. As it stands I’m beginning to feel like what long time DW fans felt with S26 in 1989.
    • Yes, they are all on contract. Next.
