Fan favorite Steve Burton is returning to a daytime soap for a full-time gig — but it’s not back on General Hospital. Peacock revealed today that Burton will reprise his role as Harris Michaels on Days Of Our Lives early next year.

Details about the return are being kept under wraps. It’s a return home for Burton, who made his daytime television debut on Days of our Lives in 1988, and recently reprised his role of Harris for the Peacock Original series spin-off of Days of our LivesDays of our Lives: Beyond Salem.

That's ironic because I just read yesterday that Disney was dropping the vaccine mandate, which would open up an opportunity to return to GH.

More than a year since he exited the role of Jason Morgan on “General Hospital,” actor Steve Burton is returning to daytime television in the contract role of Harris Michaels on Peacock’s “Days of our Lives.” He first portrayed the character in 1988 and again in the summer of 2022 during Chapter 2 of “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem.”

According to the soap, Burton will return to the iconic series early next year for a thrilling new storyline and will work alongside veteran cast members, including Stephen NicholsMary Beth EvansDeidre HallDrake Hogestyn, and more.

Additional details on Burton’s return are currently being kept under wraps, but fans can look forward to more mystery, high-stakes adventure, and romance with Harris returning to the canvas next year.

A few years after making his daytime debut on “DAYS,” Burton joined “GH” in the then role of Jason Quartermaine. The character later became the dangerous hitman fans came to love who worked for mob boss Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). Burton won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 1998 for the role. Burton eventually joined “The Young and the Restless” as Dylan McAvoy, a former military service member who served in Afghanistan. He also won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal. He won the award in 2014.

The press release says Burton will begin airing on Days as Harris Michaels "early in 2023".

Due to the 6-month tape-to-airdate gap at DAYS, that would mean he (probably) has already been taping at DAYS for a while - which would mean that he likely began taping at DAYS long before Disney dropped the vaccine mandate.

But DAYS tapes wildly out of order, so maybe he's been taping at DAYS for quite a while, or maybe he just began, or maybe he's already done. Hard to say.

Seeing present-day photos of Burton reminds me of how important it is to always wear SPF on your face, no matter what time of year it is...

Actually MBE said they're about four months ahead since the move to Peacock.

So many current characters that deserve stories yet a relative newbie gets one.

That's probably why they didn't sign Zack Tinker to a contract. The money went to Steve Burton.

The Days tape-to-airdate gap still *averages* about 5 1/2 months.

But that's only an average.
They tape wildly out of order (A few scenes are taped weeks or months out of order). so it's difficult to track.

He just needs to not play a Jason clone. Hopefully that implication in BS 2 that he was under mind control turns out to be true

And moisturize...

Look, I would be horrified if people were able to compare my looks in 2022 with when I had a bleached blond mullet in 1987 (metaphorically, because I've never bleached my hair nor worn a mullet).  But, if that were true I would be sure to protect my skin and hair at all costs.
