DAYS Spinoff: Beyond Salem Discussion Thread

Watching now ...

I liked the updated Days opening and then the new opening for the mini-series. A part of me would have liked the cast in the opening but it worked. A slightly bigger budget would be nice but they've done a good job making this happen in a short amount of time.

I appreciate the re-dressed sets and they do a good job setting the scenes for where the characters are. It's what soaps used to do.

Tony/Anna/Carrie gave me all the feels. And then Austin stormed in. Lord. Can we free Carrie from Austin? Sorry ya'll ... lol

It does give the vibe of a primetime soap/DAYS with a better budget. I approve. Like I said, they did a good job with what they had and in the time they had to do it.

Zach Tinker does a good job. I approve of him as Sonny. I do find it funny how over the years Chad and Sonny have become closer than Chad and Will once were.

Can't wait to see Billie's take on Ben. LOL.

Ben and Ciara are literally useless. I'd rather see literally anyone else. But I get why they're there.

She looks fantastic. I'll never get over this show firing her so many times. How stupid they were. But she's had a great life, lived around the world, so it's worked out for her but selfishly I've wanted her on the show for so damn long. Ron seems interested.

Austin Peck ... ugh ... Austin Reed feels like an albatross on Carrie's back but I'd take him with her over Rafe anyday lol you know that's who they'd stick her with.

I bet DAYS wishes they still had old/gone Salem Place to use now LOL

I feel like I can't look at the main show the same now after Beyond Salem ... and this is just one episode in.

Can we please get the main show a bigger budget?

I love Paulina all "I'm rich and fabulous and know this person and this person and this person" ... lmao it's perfect

Austin Peck really is that dumb. I still remember the ATWT reunion and he walks into the room and says ...we're live? with this doofus look on his face.

I will go on record saying AP as Austin is fine.  He has improved acting wise and still looks good.  I will agree he is an albatross around Carrie's neck though.

Carrie could have been in so many other pairings but we just trot out Austin every time.

Muldoon just looks so old compared to Christie

LOL I am about to watch Beyond Salem now but saw this but I remember several years back in 2010 when Corday said he would never get rid of the mid-show bumper even if it was old fashioned. Of course he lied in the long run lol.

I like Tinker so far as Sonny. I do miss the days of the original Chill back in 2010-11 I wish the show had actually followed through there at the time.

I get that.

AP and CC do have a good rapport and they picked up like no time had passed. AP also easily slipped back into the role of Austin easily. It works but I definitely agree they keep trotting out Austin and Carrie has seemingly been stuck with him forever. I'd love to see Carrie/Christie tried with say, nuEJ on the main show. Hell even Martha Madison had chemistry with Dan.

I'm kinda dying at the Baywatch 90s feel of the Miami stock footage. I love it.

I love mid show bumpers.

Chill is what got me into Days. ATWT had been cancelled and I was looking for a soap. Everyone on here kept going on and on about them so I decided to watch and got hooked. Vintage pic...Chad is off to the side.

There was such good potential for a DiMera/Horton/Kiriakis triangle.

I already enjoy this show more than the main show. It just checks all the boxes for me really. A cast I care about, a slightly better budget and a clear focus. The main show could be better but for some reason that's what they choose to put on network television (same for the other three soaps).

Loved the slight digs and nod at the stupidity of the main show in regards to Ben and no budget. Shane "our budget isn't what it used to be" (or however he said it) ...

Personally, I've been advocating for PM to come back as Austin, have Carrie and Rafe get together working on a case, while Austin rediscovers his love of music doodling on the piano, and Eve overhears him and they connect over this. Austin helps Eve with recovering her voice, and they eventually end up having their own affair. It'd help release Carrie from Austin, and gives Rafe a potential pairing that won't bore/annoy everyone.

Granted, this was my idea from about 4-5 years ago. I think it's way too late for either pairing to work now, but...I digress.

Looping back round to BS: Looks like I'll be having to play catchup in October with this, since literally no one has SlackTV so idk how I'll be able to watch this before it goes on Global's app.

Exactly. Which is why I'd love a little more money tossed the main show's way. With two years locked they should be plotting a lot better going forward. But Ron needs a co-hw. And I'd argue a stronger producer. But the potential is there. It's there for all the soaps but they fail in so many ways. Many avoidable ways.

I'd also argue the show has some deadweight that can be cut and they might need to make a tough choice or two.

    • Put me in the minority in being happy about Cat not being Abby. After the two adult recasts played tag with the role, it's time for a few years of rest. I have a huge list of things I hate about RC's writing, but that choice was not one of them.
    • Except she never worked there at all and barely even knew where the Chancellor Industries plant was located  In 1980, Kay attempted to install Derek Thurston (her third husband) in a position at Chancellor Industries.  The show introduced a character named George Packard who'd supposedly been running Chancellor since Phillip's demise in 1975.  (George Packard's storyline in 1980 was attempting to keep Derek Thurston from bankrupting the company.)   We didn't hear much of anything about Chancellor Industries for the next twenty-five years.  Then, at that point, we met Eliot Hampton (?) who'd been running the company for decades and had been embezzling from it.  Jill took it upon her herself to oust Eliot Hampton (?) and take control of the company.  That's when Kay became actively involved in the management of the company.  From 1974 till 2004 Kay Chancellor was strictly a hands-off owner.  It was downright absurd that the last ten years of life, she was written as this formidable businesswoman who'd always been involved in Chancellor Industries.
    • Well, it's going to be something when he finds out the truth.  Agreed.  On that note, I can't until it all comes out. I find Lulu to be ridiculous.
    • I almost posted this because that was my initial reaction too:  this is weird/cringe, to sing around a piano after such a huge family shattering bomb was dropped.  But I got over that and just enjoyed her voice, the song and the montage we saw as everyone's emotions in the aftermath were pouring out.
    • The Equalizer original series was not a big hit yet it became a movie franchise and got a reboot series. The Equalizer reboot lasted 5 seasons, so one season longer than the original series.

His social media/IMDb doesn't have his age but from some posts he's made, I'm guessing 1989 is his birth year.
    • Here's the timeline, as I recall it being published. The WGA strike was 5/2–9/27/2023 Annalynne McCord was announced as being hired in December 2023, for a one-year contract https://deadline.com/2024/06/days-of-our-lives-when-to-expect-annalynne-mccord-peacock-1235975806/ RonC's first scripts back from the strike began airing May 31, 2024 (around Konstantine & Maggie's wedding) https://www.tvinsider.com/1137709/days-of-our-lives-writers-return-15000th-episode-storylines/ Her first air date was June 19th 2024. The actress has said she was not told who she would be playing until she started taping. RonC 's replacements were announced July 2024, with his scripts airing through April 2025 Side note: DAYS social media team seems to be playing fast and loose with BTS videos, in terms of how far in advance they film content (e.g. their April Fools' Joke videos were clearly not filmed on 4/1/25), so we shouldn't assume anyone's current status, versus those who were there nine months ago.
    • April and her husband (Draper) are the "young leads" who tie all the storyline threads together.  They're normally in the center of the action.  In this particular storyline, Draper is the attorney who represents Paige Madison.  (The district attorney, Logan Swift, has given Paige Madison "temporary immunity from prosecution" if she will lead the police to the members of the Tobias Gang who stole the firearms.  But Paige mainly just ducks bullets from various gang members who pop-up to assassinate her.)
    • It's one thing to post about a soap's rumors or gossip, which in point of fact we've all done. It's another to present yourself as the inside source who knows something to be fact that's about to break wide, then backtrack and call it just Twitter speculation. Between those two extreme poles you have to commit to one or the other. If I got something wrong, I'd say it. (Nor would I keep playing insider after what I pulled with Drake Hogestyn, which should've gotten someone permanently banned.) And regardless, you don't open with this 'news' you don't actually want to stand by yet by mocking DRW's extremely valid concerns re: how the Trina character and Tabyana Ali has been marginalized and put out to virtual pasture ever since the day NAC left. Her playing out her current contract in a C-storyline with Kai does not change that.
