I know SMG has had struggles with finding the right roles for quite a while now. I don't know if Buffy needs to come back, especially as the show ran about 4 years too long and the shadow of Joss Whedon is always going to hang over everything. I do wish them luck and I hope they give Buffy fans a happy conclusion for the character (as I know most of the show will be about new characters).

Oh wow! She's only 15, but I guess with shorter streaming seasons that might not be an issue.

Her dad, Dean Armstrong, played Blake on Queer as Folk (US) btw.

Essentially it was a Hulu exec who declined the project who never even finished the original series.

I would have said someone who finished the original show would have been even less likely to approve a revival.

How much of a d-bag do you have to be to tell the people working on one of your shows that you didn't finish the original series that the new series is based upon or that you're not a fan? God knows I wasn't looking forward to this reboot, but if I were in that exec's shoes, I think I would set aside whatever feelings I had about the reboot and work my ass off to see that it gets every chance it needs to succeed - if only for the fans who DO love it and who want it back. Because, after all, if they love THIS show, maybe they'll be willing to check out what ELSE the company and the app has to offer.

God, H'wood can be such a soul-sucking place.

Maybe. Again, though, there's a core fanbase who refuses to let the Buffyverse fade away - and IMO, each one of those individuals, if nothing else, represents dollars TPTB are leaving on the table.

lol if there's one thing Sarah never does it's stand on ceremony or be less than candid. She does not mince words in that new article. There are always execs like that out there.

I frankly had no interest in a revival of Buffy; I thought its ending was good enough. I think it should be left where it is for longer as I think we are in the dying days of IP cannibalization, and any return would need both more distance from the Whedon scandal and the current streaming churn and burn cycle, and really perfect writers to nail the tone. I was willing to be pleasantly surprised but I'm not exactly weeping if it doesn't happen. I feel for Sarah and the new cast but that's about it. The only thing that would make me want it more is to spite that kind of executive, which I am definitely familiar with.

I was surprised to hear she had heard from the entire original cast. Last I checked Alyson Hannigan is still very close to Joss and has kept very quiet in recent years, but it seems she and Sarah patched things up a few years ago.
