Tripp should be a good guy, but with a bit of a edge (rough childhood, held a scalpel to Kayla's throat, etc); unfortunately Ron does not know how to write such characters without making them one extreme or the other (boringly too good; or outright psycho).

I of course am most interested in grey characters but just the same way we need villains to advance story at times, any show needs genuinely good characters, even if it means they are slightly boring.

That's why I had a high tolerance for Carrie back in the day or for the snoozey Belle/Shawn coupling. We cannot have everyone have enormous baggage. There needs to be balance.

So I am fine with them establishing Tripp as a bland but likeable good guy leading man. Not everyone can or should be a villain and I prefer slightly boring to recycling serial killers, if you know what I mean.

^^^I love Carrie.  I think she should still be on the show at least when Sami is on.  Carrie>>>>Belle.

I like the idea of Allie/Chanel/Tripp.  All the characters don't bother me and, while I don't think any of them have a ton of chemistry, at least it's something different.

Am I the only one kind of bothered Chanel and Allie got Alice's donut recipe?  I know Allie is a Horton, but those two are going to profit off of Alice's famous recipe?  Not into it.

Also, we all noticed how watered-down Will had become, and even former serial killer Ben is now a self-pitying, neurotic Mary Sue. They’ve become neutered. Basically, the guys are pretty vanilla aside from Xander and the villain du jour (currently Michael Lowry’s character), while the ladies get to have all the fun (Gabi, Kate, Sami, Abby, et al. aren’t out-and-out villains but they get to scheme and be witheringly funny). Not entirely shocking for a female genre, but still… would it hurt to have preserved some of Tripp’s early ne’er-do-well energy while still making him generally a decent guy?

I find Tripp to just be the most bland and boring character on the canvas. I’ve never had a connection with the character or cared about anything he did.

Xander is a perfectly grey character and I find him quite enjoyable.

And because I haven’t said it this week. I still don’t like nuClaire at all. I felt nothing for her when she was kidnapped. I just don’t think I’m ever going to accept her.

Me too.  I am surprised Maggie (in her Horton days) didn't try it, especially with her interest in restaurants.

I wouldn't have a problem with it if Allie was really interested and into baking, but she literally only did it for Chanel.   Allie/Chanel aren't doing it to pass on a tradition or anything.  They are just in it for profit.

    • I do not think I have ever agreed with Vee. Normally I do not read him, Ignore ya know. For some unknown reason I clicked to read. And I agree 1000%. Now, this is so odd that I need to go away for a bit.
    • Justine had a lot of hooey in it, but she was an actual woman, not a guy in drag. She was a doppelganger of Rachel, French, having had a past history with Carl, etc. Two of the more outrageous parts-Justine bricking alive Vicky into a wall & Justine grinding the gears driving a big rig.
    • Hehe, twi/x actually x, formerly Twitter. Typically I find 2 sources for "crazy fan rumors" - the wrong parts of FB and x. Oy.
    • Not to hijack the thread, but was that character Justine? I just found this interview online with Logan and see what you're talking about - wow!   http://www.anotherworldhomepage.com/chat85.html
    • My bad….ill fix that  Fixed
    • Where do you discover this crazy rumor??
    • Jill Farren Phelps was always very skilled at saying what she meant onscreen in the bluntest way possible, like whenever she wanted fans to support one character vs. the other (hence Megan McTavish groaning about having to write Kale Browne's Sam Rappaport into three days a week at OLTL). Perhaps you should consider doing the same. Historically your intent is always far more obvious than your efforts at coy embroidery anyway. You believe people are dismissing Phelps' accomplishments, and suggest misogyny and fan blinders allow people to too easily pigeonhole and dismiss her skill set. I think we all understand her varied skill set. We're saying it's not enough to make up for her deficiencies as a storyteller and creative. JFP was undoubtedly a skilled technical producer. As a solo storyteller, and de facto HW, she was a repeat and predictable failure. She was not the first or last EP (male or female) to think she was a writer. If you want us to stop taking your behavior personally when you suggest misogyny is at play in board opinions of JFP, perhaps you should consider spending the next 10+ years here not acting like you're the only one who gets it.

Melissa was here today & we went to Michael's Crafts & Ofc Depot. In Michael's there were two beautiful LITTLE girls who kept staring at me, so I gave them a littel wave & very quietly said HI & then did back. I told Melissa they were staring at me. She smiled & said "Purple. A lot of little girls love purple & you forget but you have purple hair. Seeing you their whole imaginations are transformed! Thinking "That lady has purple hair. That means I can have purple hair! They had no clue before seeing you that it was possible." I just laughed & laughed.
    • This opening scene is hilarious...it's like someone wrote out the script for Philip with one hand. And Rick...sniffing a scarf over and over. And in their next scene they are still sniffing the [!@#$%^&*] scarf as the camera stays all over Philip's bare chest and armpits as he keeps working out. Insane stuff.
