THE DOCTORS is another soap I just couldn't (or can't) get into.  The Rita Lakin/Rick Edelstein era seemed pretty good (although, I think I caught only the tail end of it on RetroTV).  However, the Pollocks' era in particular grated my nerves.  Everyone had to be dumbed down in order for any story to work; and oh my God, those *endless* flashbacks that were obviously used to pad out episodes.

Even the Douglas Marland era wound up disappointing me (and as a Marland fan, I hate admitting that, too).  Instead of wrapping up the show's interminable plots and starting his own, he spent most of his time there keeping them going to the point of insanity (mine, not theirs).  By the time his work had concluded, I was just done.

I agree with you. I'm not as far as Marland's stint, I wanna say I'm at the beginning of 1971, but I hate the Pollocks writing. RetroTV starting with Rita Lakin was bittersweet because I'd never heard of her tenure and it was *so* good, so modern and nuanced and nothing was going to live up to that. Like you said, the Pollocks were incredibly plot driven and those flashbacks killed me. I don't think they've ever done anything I like.

Another soap I struggle with currently is Santa Barbara. I have watched the first year and I'm still waiting for this glory period to start. I'm about ready to give up. Another one for me is General Hospital. I've watched off and on since the early 00s, but I have little interest in revisiting the past, which is rare for me when it comes to soaps.

@Chris B I’m doing the same with Santa Barbara. I gave it ten episodes and just jumped right into Marcy walker introduction. Hoping for the best though.

The first year there were a lot of mistakes made; I'm all the way into the 700-level episodes, and it has its upswings and downslides.

Good to hear. I’m trying to hang in there so I can watch Eden, Cruz, Robert, and Kelly foursome.

Cruz and Eden are the one thing about Santa Barbara I don't understand the allure of.

Any soap that was not on CBS.

Same here. The peak years of CBS Daytime on the whole were the late 1980s/early 1990s.

This is kind of funny - as much as I loved GH in the 90s into the early 00s, I never could get into PC. This was both pre- and post-supernatural.

Ditto. Was never a fan. I liked a few of the actors, but never enough to invest in the show. Just wondered why it existed (creatively, not commercially). As a place to put the actual doctors while GH descended into full-on mob violence?

Maybe...at least in the beginning. Plus, it was nice to see characters like Alan and Monica there, teaching the interns. But even that kind of tie to the parent show was abandoned fairly early on.
