ALL: You couldn’t imagine THEM playing THAT story

I think it would have given all three actresses more notes to play.  Because AE could go over the top as Tina, but imagine her getting to play more heartbreak over just how bad Viki’s life was due to Victor.  Lots of layers to play in her escaping that, and then finding out Todd is her brother.  Plus the scenes where Dorian tells Tina what happened would have been cool to see, as they grapple with being trapped, each caring for Viki in their own way, and both also incredibly selfish as people dealing with their situation.  We could have had comedy and tragedy.

I have imagined Evans as 90s Tina ad nauesem but I never imagined her being held in the secret room with Dorian. I would do anything to see that. I love the scenes of 1985-86 Viki/Tina/Dorian. And I always felt that Tina made herself the victim concerning Victor so this would have really grounded Tina in that regard concerning Viki and even Dorian.

What could have been!

I think Malone and co. actually did a very admirable job channeling the classic Tina in an evolved form with Karen Witter in the role, especially with Luna, Cain, etc. I felt like it was Tina but updated for the times. I think Andrea could've played all that if given the chance. Unfortunately most of what she was given when she did return was camp, with the exception of some stuff in her final stint that was touching. That's the big reason Witter is still 'my' Tina in some ways, though I know AE is irreplaceable and would be the standard-bearer if the show were still on. I wish we could've seen her do more resonant work.

I am grateful that RC made up for the 2008 mess with Tina in 2011. Although when I rewatch the 2008 run, it isn't as bad in retrospect but at the time I was pissed.

It is a shame that Dorian and Tina never shared scenes in 2008 or 2011 though. The 2008 run could have been a bit better if they sent Tina back to Llanview and in story with Dorian until Viki returned.

I thought Witter ended up being an amazing recast.  As you said, she felt like Tina, just a little more mature and grounded.  But still Tina.  I loved her.

This would only work with Evans for me.  Think of the flashbacks to her finding out about her family ties!

I just mentioned this on the SB thread. Lane Davies' portrayal of Mason Capwell was so unique. Even though Terry Lester and Gordon Thomson were reasonably successful recasts, I can't imagine either of them playing Mason's split personality, Sonny Sprocket. I can't see either of them with Mary or Gina, either.

    • To bring over from the May Sweeps Thread from @Chris B   I know the fashions have gotten mixed reviews but I actually like what the new costume designer is putting the cast in. It feels more modern and the more tacky pieces I feel make sense for rich people. They're buying for the brand and the price and we often see celebs in things like this. Especially for a character like Nikki, I feel the more over the top (and tacky), the more realistic it is.   I agree. While it has been hit and miss no question, I have found it fascinating to watch what the costume designer is attempting to do with the various characters and their clothes. Some have been overdue. Some have been fascinating. But (outside of Billy) not boring to watch. I definitely find it more modern as well.   My growing issue has been it's not good that the best reason to watch Y&R as of late has been to see what people are wearing rather than the writing. It feels like a red flag.
    • Haha. The fact that I stopped regularly viewing at the same time and know what you are talking about is chef's kiss.    I'm slowly bingewatching Nurse's Ball Week. But it's slow for me because a lot of the same tics and writing flaws for me that made me throw up my hands is still evident *cough*CVE*cough* Thankfully, there are some things I like also and from a glance in the GH May Thread, it seem like it had a good Sweeps with good fallout. And do I even need to mention Nina finally slapping the taste out of Carly's mouth? See? Regardless of her flaws, I do enjoy Korte-headed episodes over CVE-headed episodes because they always seem to have more emotional resonance to long-time fans.
    • And that charity does still get mentioned from time to time. I want to say the last time was some time this year, too.
    • Oh, no. Vernon has definitely had his moments.   Choose silence anyone?
    • Search YT for Edwyn Sanchez, he posted an AI enhanced episode of ATWT and it is beautiful.
    • That's so funny, that's how I listen to Montecito - while walking my dog. I'll have to check out Forever & a Day.
    • I need to listen! Forever & a Day was a fun soapy podcast to have available when I walked the dog.
    • A few years ago, Devon and Nick started a charity organization together, I think it's for housing in the community.
    • I’m hoping to start getting to know Vernon better this month. He’s really only been a bunch of noble and good tropes so far. I don’t want him to be taken down the way Ted has been, but it seems he was a long-running Senator and no matter what party you are, lasting longer than twenty years means you’re looking out for you (and not who you’re supposed to be looking out for) most of all. I want to get to know both Vernon and Anita beyond their Dupree posturing. Clifton Davis can sleepwalk handling the kind of material Christopher Bernau and David Lewis handled and I’d like to see more than just a saint.
    • I thought Emily/Hal was a really interesting pairing. And I think KMH played that version of Emily very well! It might not have been what people wanted from Emily, and the writing got pretty gross at the end, but I thought she embodied that character effectively.
