They had plenty of chemistry. My issue was with how they played it back then - sappy Ava talking about her childhood dreams of being a princess. That's not who Ava is and depicting her in a normal relationship as a quasi-good person doesn't work. But the chemistry is there with both Niks.

I just can't see Ava/Nik working with TC in the role. I never saw TC as an engaging leading man. I have seen even the most wooden actors up their game with her (*coughMarkColliercough*)....but I can't see his Nik becoming emotionally connected to Ava.

I do wonder where Ava's story would've gone if the Nik story hadn't fallen through. Would she have still drugged Morgan because she was over-involved in Kiki's life? Or would she have come back all about Nik? If there's no drugging, there's no fire, there's no Griffin (oh, if only....) and possibly no Ryan.

I do wonder how long the character of Jill would’ve lasted on Y&R had Brenda Dickson stayed. She still looks great, but her style of acting and the quality of it I can’t even see lasting into the 90s. I either see her being written out or having a vastly different trajectory.

I do wonder if Dickson would have toned down the acting... because she was told to camp it up by producers.. which went against what Bell wanted.

I do think Jill vs Nina would have gone vastly different had Dickson stayed in the part.  I don't think Kay/Jill would have teamed up against Nina had Dickson stayed in the part.

At the same time, Jill vs Kay changed once Jess Walton took over.  Dickson was more controlled/sarcastic in her interactions with Kay.. with Kay acting angry.   Once Jess walton took over.. Jill became more intense and likely to get physical.

To echo others, I can’t imagine Michelle Stafford playing anything Cynthia Watros is currently playing as Nina on GH, *especially* the Sonny relationship. CW is totally credible in soft, emotional scenes with Phyllis and Lenny as well as baby Wiley in ways that MS could *never* pull off.

Stafford has it in her to play emotion and empathy but she’s soooo self-conscious in scenes whereas CW is far more grounded. CW has done her best with a poorly conceived character and has made her watchable.

    • To bring over from the May Sweeps Thread from @Chris B   I know the fashions have gotten mixed reviews but I actually like what the new costume designer is putting the cast in. It feels more modern and the more tacky pieces I feel make sense for rich people. They're buying for the brand and the price and we often see celebs in things like this. Especially for a character like Nikki, I feel the more over the top (and tacky), the more realistic it is.   I agree. While it has been hit and miss no question, I have found it fascinating to watch what the costume designer is attempting to do with the various characters and their clothes. Some have been overdue. Some have been fascinating. But (outside of Billy) not boring to watch. I definitely find it more modern as well.   My growing issue has been it's not good that the best reason to watch Y&R as of late has been to see what people are wearing rather than the writing. It feels like a red flag.
    • Haha. The fact that I stopped regularly viewing at the same time and know what you are talking about is chef's kiss.    I'm slowly bingewatching Nurse's Ball Week. But it's slow for me because a lot of the same tics and writing flaws for me that made me throw up my hands is still evident *cough*CVE*cough* Thankfully, there are some things I like also and from a glance in the GH May Thread, it seem like it had a good Sweeps with good fallout. And do I even need to mention Nina finally slapping the taste out of Carly's mouth? See? Regardless of her flaws, I do enjoy Korte-headed episodes over CVE-headed episodes because they always seem to have more emotional resonance to long-time fans.
    • And that charity does still get mentioned from time to time. I want to say the last time was some time this year, too.
    • Oh, no. Vernon has definitely had his moments.   Choose silence anyone?
    • Search YT for Edwyn Sanchez, he posted an AI enhanced episode of ATWT and it is beautiful.
    • That's so funny, that's how I listen to Montecito - while walking my dog. I'll have to check out Forever & a Day.
    • I need to listen! Forever & a Day was a fun soapy podcast to have available when I walked the dog.
    • A few years ago, Devon and Nick started a charity organization together, I think it's for housing in the community.
    • I’m hoping to start getting to know Vernon better this month. He’s really only been a bunch of noble and good tropes so far. I don’t want him to be taken down the way Ted has been, but it seems he was a long-running Senator and no matter what party you are, lasting longer than twenty years means you’re looking out for you (and not who you’re supposed to be looking out for) most of all. I want to get to know both Vernon and Anita beyond their Dupree posturing. Clifton Davis can sleepwalk handling the kind of material Christopher Bernau and David Lewis handled and I’d like to see more than just a saint.
    • I thought Emily/Hal was a really interesting pairing. And I think KMH played that version of Emily very well! It might not have been what people wanted from Emily, and the writing got pretty gross at the end, but I thought she embodied that character effectively.
