RIP Forrest Compton

I am very sad to announce that our dear Forest Compton passed away yesterday at the age of 94. From what I've heard, it was the corona virus. Woody, as he was affectionately known to all of us on The Edge of Night, was a master professional, hilarious, smart, kind and gentle. I spoke with him a couple years ago on his birthday and he was active and happy in his retirement. Rest in peace, Woody, and give hugs and kisses to Larkin, Lois, Dennis, Nick, Joel, Irving and all the other EDGE alumni up there. 2764.png

THE story about Woody. He was on EON when they were LIVE. It was brutal, but Woody was one of the best "straight face" men in the business. So he is doing a scene with Nancy his wife (the glorious Ann Flood - another "straight face" master). He walks in the kitchen and sits down and his line was supposed to be "Gee, it's hard to get up in the morning." as Nancy gave him his coffee. Instead, Mike Karr says on national TV, "Gee it's hard to get IT up in the morning, Nancy." There was pandemonium among the crew during the commercial break as you can imagine.

I'm so sad to hear this news. By the time of any of the EON available to me, Mike was very much a supporting character, but Forrest easily balanced tense courtroom drama with lighthearted marital banter. He and Ann Flood were great together and he was the perfect patriarch figure for a show that didn't really need one.

Here's an interview with Forrest from last year.

How devastating! I'm not as versed in Edge as I'd like to be, but you just have to have a ton of respect for Forrest Compton.

Thanks for sharing the interview, DRW50. I love the anecdote about the building superintendent. I hope FC knew how lucky he was to have been a part of the true golden age of soap opera.

    • I actually stopped watching. I find the show really bad at the moment (or at least before I stopped, which was shortly after Sonia and Bianca's exit). And I just saw the overnight ratings for last week, quite bad, below 2 mil.  I don't like the nuMitchells all, I don't care about Avani and Joel, I hate what they have done to Kathy by making her an attempted murderer who is so chill about it, also she is pissed off at Cindy for cheating on Ian, yet she is enabling Harvey cheat on Jean, I don't like Peter and Lauren as a couple, she is always so toxic towards him, making Zach Barney's dad is such a lame decision and plot twist... I found Stacey vs Ruby in the end horrible for Stacey. Firstly she accoused Ruby of burning the stall, then when she learned it was Lily, she was bullying Ruby into not telling anyone and making Ruby leave the square with everyone thinking it was her who did it.. horrible look there for Stacey and Lily, who was such a brat there (I get she was going through a lot, but terrible mothering from Stacey there, to say: sure, you can commit arson, pin it on someone else and get away with it, if you're having tough time in your life). I still hate what they've done with Gina/Freddie/Anna, I think it ruined all three of them, the whole where George was during Cindy's attack was just forgotten, which is sloppy and I just didn't like Terry Cant's rushed return, that was such a let down which led to the rushed exit for Sonia.  So as you can see, I just don't like the show at all

    • LOL...who has time for college? They only went to half a semester, which wasn't really a problem for Mindy, Phillip or Beth. But no wonder Rick became known as Dr Death.
    • Throwing it out there ... "He Plays the Violin" at Nurses Ball 2026.

    • And another way for Bill to go against the DuPree's by working to get Haley custody of Ty and Sam.
    • Lol!  Lulu can just give him a 23andme kit for his upcoming birthday and let chaos ensue as well.

    • I didn't say he was or that news came out of his exit; I said: "Once Lindstrom likely wraps up his run," not that he was.

And considering DAYS has shoe-box sets, the casino set on this soap is far from as bad as many are suggesting, at least from my viewpoint.
    • It's "C.S.I.: Port Charles," lol.
