GH: RUMOR HW to Retire???

Shelly will have served as GH’s HW for 4 years, which is longer than Claire Labine and tied with other greats such as Pat Falkin Smith and Norma Monty. Such an amazing accomplishment and staying power.

I personally most enjoyed the Alzheimer’s story, the Ryan saga, everything Ava Jerome, Nina’s redemption, and the real Jason.

Shelly & Norma are not ''GREATS''. VariableLiquidBushbaby-small.gif

What they need is someone completely new. Enough with these same old hacks, or writers that write well for a year and then after that, completely ruin the show.

Stop feeding our longtime troll. They're trying it after months of keeping quiet.

I agree However they just recycle people because those people know how to write for the rigors of daytime

It just seems unbelievable that there are no struggling young writers out there who would be interested in writing for a soap. Pretty much every one of the great soap writers all came in young and hungry and were mentored by someone else, and the result of that was, if you ask me, some of the best writing ever seen on television.

Thank God that we're able to see all of that at least on Youtube and other video sharing sites.

There are plenty of younger people who’d like to write for soaps but the soaps want people with experience. Part of the low budget soap era we are in.

Which is why one would think that the soaps and even networks would be reaching out or trying to bring in young, struggling writers! Especially since we are in the low budget soap era. My problem also stems from the fact the networks continuously are making money from multiple avenues and could give their soaps more money towards their budget. Everyone has a responsibility!

When Networks stopped their writing workshops you could tell they stopped caring about Quality. It became all about saving $$$$$

I remember reading somewhere here that O'Connor was the unofficial GH historian not long after Ron Carlivati and his writing team took over GH's writing, and that the SON community was not impressed at the time.  I wish I could remember the thread where the subject was discussed.

If it's true that O'Connor will be replacing Altman, that would mean that not one woman is serving as head writer or executive producer of any of today's soaps. That's pathetic.

Nothing will fix GH.  It's a shadow of it's former self.  Unless ABC gets serious about an overhaul (i.e., firing Frank, etc), this show will continue it's dismal placeholder as ABC's only soap - new headwriter or not.

The 'historian' who thought Luke and Anna were longtime friends despite the fact they had never interacted before then?

It's truly saddening that ABC would rather see GH go out as cheap Frank Valentini vanity production than try to at least salvage it somehow.

Can't they try to steal Ed Scott and Michele Val Jean from B&B, or Lorraine Broderick from DAYS, or something?

Id love A HW team of Michele Val Jean, Karen Harris & Elizabeth Korte  with Wendy Riche back as EP But Id be happy to see what ED Scott could do as EP

I wasn't aware Norma Monty was considered a "great."

Anyway, when you're a network puppet and write only what your network executive and EP are dictating you to write, you tend to have lasting power in this current daytime climate.

True. It doesn't matter who is the writer as long the storylines are going to always involve one or two of either Sonny, Carly, Sam, Jason, and their children.
