Jarlena are still THE powerhouse couple on Days. They don’t get many lead stories because of their guarantees.

Jarlena and JnJ are the only couples worth watching on Days. I’m thoroughly enjoying Jack and Jennifer finding their way back to each other. Ron knows who the proper supercouples are, and it’s not Marlena and Roman or Jennifer and Frankie, lol.

Surprised and disappointed that you’re a Jarlena hater.

I’ve loved what Ron has written for Jarlena when he’s been able to: the Hattie switch that kicked off his run, the wedding drama/Hattie switch/final wedding of 2018, and the return of Diana. Ron is the first writer since JER who really gets Jarlena and does right by them. I’d prefer to see them lead story 4 days a week but I’m fine with short lead arcs followed by longer spurts of acting in a supporting capacity to their family members.

Jarlena defined 90s Days, which was my favorite era. I love them. Days hasn’t created a root-worthy couple since Philip and Chloe.

No it wouldn’t. Marlena’s not into Roman.

I’d welcome Wayne back as Dr. Alex North, though. Days needs a villain in that age range who’s not Stefano.

I think Marlena and john have gotten more stories than most soaps would let actors of their age

Also and Ill probably regret asking this but how do you know what the actors episode guarantees are?

Dr Alan North was a useless rewrite and using former Roman/Marlena scenes from 1981-84 and saying that was Alex, was utter BS

Wayne & Deidre have great chemistry. Id like to see him as Roman again

Well their gurantee could be higher or lower. If Days doesnt use them , they still get paid for the gurantees not met

And that’s what I love about Days. They keep their supercouples together unlike GH, and they write for their popular vets (including that repugnant shrew Suzanne Rogers). It’s 2019 and I’m still watching my beloved JnJ in a frontburner story. GH would never.

When a year is up if a show hasnt used the actor forr their full guarantee that year, the show pays them what their contract says. I agree that if actors g over, Days does put them on breaks from time to time

Wayne and Deidre’s chemistry (I don’t see it but to each their own) was blown off the map by Drake and Dee’s chemistry when he arrived in 1986. Wayne’s 1991 return was pointless, although it did definitely end Roman and Marlena. There aren’t too many viewers who think Marlena belongs with Roman (either actor) over John. That ship didn’t just sail, it sank.

I’m aware that Days has to pay them if they’re not used. But they prefer to use them than pay them not to work. The show is broke and can’t afford to do that.

All the focus lately on Maggie has been awful. Suzanne can’t handle this material. The way they write her as Brady’s mother is beyond problematic. Hopefully they’re burning through her guarantee so they can ship her off to rehab for six months.

Once again did Suzanne spit in your corn flakes or something. Maggie drinking is the only thing really entertaining atm

Maggie hasnt had her own story since 2011-2012 when started dating Victor. Its about time she got some story love

I agree. I'm 99% sure it's a poster who kept leaving these continuous messages about how much he hated SR/Maggie on another site. It's super odd. What is the obsession there? Did she not answer their fan mail or something?

To me, she's the most interesting part of the show. I was actually hoping her fall off the wagon would be even more dramatic....like Maggie ends up on the street practically. She's doing great with what she's been given though.

    • Just so you know I said it... @Antoyne ASHHHHHHHHLEYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!
    • Yes, the Liz and Lucky scenes were horrible. Kristina better be sent to prison.   I'm already getting tired of BLQ continuing to blame Lois for her mistakes. Yes, let's move this along.
    • Oh I agree that they erred in not showing her bonding more with her family and not having this examined more closely. I think if I cared about Lucky or Laura I'd be more agitated. I think the material they have given her (aside from chasing after Charlotte, which was hurt by not focusing more on Rocco's response and just by Charlotte never having a reason to exist) has been OK but certainly not what it could have been.
    • I have never been much of a Lulu fan either since the JMB days.  I do think Alexa Havins is really a great recast.  When Lulu returned it was at the expense of Sam (no loss to me) but not the best for audience favor, she was barely on screen for weeks after she woke up, then went to run off and put everyone in danger to find Charlotte at the expense of her other child, and finally moved on to this Brook/Dante baby investigation.  Lulu never had a chance to grieve the years she lost, re-bond with her family or her friends, re-integrate herself back into town, or be anything more than a chaos creator. Meanwhile, Brook Lynn is this poor, innocent victim that's being bullied by Lulu.  I don't think Lulu is right.  I would just like a little more subtlety in the writing.
    • Just beautifully done. I could name some minor quibbles, but I won't, because what DAYS gave us today was golden. That was soap opera at its finest, paying homage to history and legacy and actors and the audience. This is why we love soaps.
    • To clarify, we could argue about the necessity to have John Black speak while in hospital, but the body created an opportunity for people to touch him, and move around him.  Even though I never totally suspended my disbelief, I appreciated their creative choice to form a visual representation of loss.  Certainly there were other ways to tell this story, but it will stay with me because those production choices enabled these performances. However, with disdain, I note that Days has found an odd middle ground between a flashback and a montage.  I define a flashback as least a couple of rounds of dialogue, if not a whole scene.  And a montage would be a visual snippet without much dialogue.  But, these were often just a single line, or an entrance.  It felt like a bit of a tease, and made me wish that Peacock had curated a playlist of John Black's Greatest Hits, like they do for some Bravo shows or SNL characters.  OT - but they have yet to maximize that platform.
    • It's tough for me because I feel like this has always been Lulu. She used to be even worse, slut-shaming, verbally abusing other women, and always being written as being in the right. They should let Brook Lynn get dirtier, but I think the material of Lulu digging and being self-righteous, making everything worse even while not intending to do so, but also not being as in the wrong as Dante thinks she is, all makes sense for her. But I don't have as much experience with Lulu as a lot of fans as I just could never stomach her beyond the time she was a mute kid, so I don't have much right to speak.
    • Thanks @JAS0N47 for all the ratings!   All My Children hits Number 1 in the ratings for the first time in its history during the week of 8/20/73-8/20/73!
    • I think the writing is slanted against Lulu.  I don't think there is an issue with the character in general.  I just think Lulu comes doesn't get many layers or nuance in her writing.  Lulu becomes obnoxious and a bully to Brook Lynn and both characters SHOULD have flaws.
