GH: Actors on a break

Because he does this all the time in a variety of ways and never learns or listens. Anything he sees he posts whether or not it's obviously fake or has been posted very recently before, because he wants to feel like 'he' posted it 'first'. It's not that serious, but it is annoying.

THIS.

I definitely agree that S/B still have a decent size fan base and those scenes when she came back and they talked about the letter (kudos to Ron for remembering how she left last time) were good scenes. As was her rivalry with Carly during that Nurses Ball. That said...if Brenda was to come back, I liked the idea already discussed because that story writes itself versus this Kim stuff. Barring that, it would be nice to see Brenda back and being her own person BEFORE getting with someone NEW before someone (Sonny or Jax) complicate it.

Does anyone know how long their break is?

I ask cause I thought I read something about how drew's lost memories may help bust Shiloh & I would like ti see that part of the story

Sonny and Brenda are still viable.  They have mad chemistry, but it's same old, same old if he remains in the mob.  It's a deal breaker for Brenda so I feel like they would almost only be endgame when he leaves the mob for HER.  Jax and Brenda were still an option until the 2013 return.  Sucks they bled both couples dry.

I don't even like Sonny (and I despise him now) or Brenda much, much less the couple, and the show was regularly a shitheap by 2010-2011, but several of their key scenes in her return that year was some of the best work either ever did. And their final scenes together as Sonny told her power was all that lasted that he could hold onto in his life, not love, were incredible.

From that point on any other romance with Sonny - for Brenda or anybody else - became pointless, because that scene is the crux of the character today. That is who he is. If he couldn't give it up for Brenda or his children he'll never give it up for anyone. Unless you are able to convincingly present Sonny as a man willing to reforge his entire life and state of being beyond that power complex he's had since childhood, there is nothing to talk about.

He is marking time with Carly because they are safe and familiar to each other, and to me the only way he could approach a realistic happy ending or character change is to pay for at least some of his crimes, give up the mob and throw himself at Brenda's feet. And even that would probably never be enough.

It's a beautiful scene.  When Brenda just sums it up so easily. I love you but just don't like you anymore. And when he says I will love forever  I just die inside  But it will never change the intrinsic problem in their relationship: the mob.  He's is biding time with Carly, but S&B are endgame.

That is exactly why S/B/J are played out.  Sonny hasn't changed at all since they broke up.  There is 0 reason for Brenda to get back with him.  She would  be an idiot to do that.  And I love Jax and Brenda but he is a clearly a placeholder for Brenda until Sonny becomes available and it's a bad look on the two characters.  There is nowhere to  go with them.  Brenda can come back with someone new, but  I really only see her coming back when GH is cancelled to whisk Sonny off into the sunset.

The Sonny/Brenda ship has sailed I suppose, at least until the very end I suppose. Laura's Carly could basically be Brenda (if you wrote her differently, of course, but so many times I could picture Brenda in Carly's place). 2013 was the time to reunite them, IMO. They could have been a staple couple. I just don't ever think Carly and Sonny should have been "endgame".

I doubt they revisit S/B/J/C but who knows?

Exactly.

It's easier to believe Carly sticking with him but that pairing doesn't really thrill me and hasn't (at least with Laura in the role). But imagine if Brenda had been in Carly's place all these years? But then again, if backstage politics didn't dictate things, we should still have Sarah Brown as Carly ... but that's a rant for another day lol

This is like prime soap magazine days.  One mention of Brenda and she’s all anyone is talking about.

I miss her, but the show as it is would not be a good fit for her today.  Better to watch some clips from the past.

That clip Vee posted-  Guza was a good writer.  The writing was strong, it just wasn’t a GH I wanted to watch anymore.  But that scene was pretty great.  And not just Sonny’s point of view.  Also- he and Laura’s Carly have so much more chemistry as friends.

I always believed Guza sorta made Carly the de facto Brenda when VM left (except without the good personality traits).  I NEVER thought S/C should ever be the endgame couple.  What a disappointment, but now with VM being gone for years now I can honestly say I don't care.  I don't think Carson are that great, but they don't offend me like some couples.  They are just there.  I don't feel any type of way about them.

Talking about Brenda is literally more exciting than anything on current GH lol.  Guza is a very good writer.  He just needs an EP like Wendy Riche to keep him in line.  JFP let him run wild.  I always thought he wrote decent material for S/B/J until 2010 where he clearly want to pair his two favorite pets Dante and Brenda.  He wrote my favorite Brenda/Sonny scene ever.

The whole episode is awesome, but if this is where it ended for S/B I would have been okay with that.  Honestly, this was a perfect ending for the Sonny character in general.  Got all the power he wanted but never the woman he loved or a family.  THE END.

I really never enjoyed Guza. I credit the scriptwriters more than him, personally. But he could at least tell a story, whether I liked it or not. But yeah, he needed an EP and maybe a co-HW with some heart. JFP and Guza were toxic together. They gutted the core of General Hospital completely. It's never ever been the same. I can't forgive that, "good" writing or not.

    • And they've given us plenty. Sets, outdoor scenes, music licensing, etc. And that was the point of me using DAYS... so. It's obvious the casino set is not intended for long-term use, hence why it's likely it wasn't as evolved as the other community sets, etc.

    • I just had thought of how to save the Perkins family. (Inspired by Rituals) -- What if Marisa Perkins was Augusta Lockridge's sister? Fictionally, they could've both been local girls, one married rich and one married poor. Originally, I was going to suggest that Marisa be Sophia's sister, but then I realized Joe and Kelly would've been first cousins.  Of course, it would've truly inspired Sophia was if Rosa Andrade sister, with Rosa and Santana moving in to help CC raise the kids once Sophia disappeared.  While this could've avoided both gross CC and Santana affairs, the times were not right for a story about intersectional inequity.
    • https://www.instagram.com/p/DJxW5DLJLId/ Another World is my forever favorite soap opera. But it's finale is almost universally hated by its fans. What this is, is an edit where I've deleted everything I didn't like!!!
    • The Perkins family had potential to be a nice alternative to the more dysfunctional Capwells and wackier Lockridges... but I think a few factors did in the family. 1) Recasting of Joe Perkins 2) Bad casting of the Perkins Patriarch, and the one note writing for that character. 3) Lack of antagonistic interaction between the Capwells/Lockridges and Perkins.  (There was no awkwardness between Jade/Ted.. or CC disapproving of his son being friends with that Perkins girl, etc). 4) Wasting of Jade thus wasting the potential of the actress (which was realized on Days of Our Lives).  She had more potential than Laken oddly enough. The only member of the Perkins family that had appeal and a somewhat thought out story arc was Amy.
    • @GymnastGuyThanks for posting the three new Capitol 1985 episodes today. The two labeled March 12, and 13 are misidentified. The March 12 labeled one actually aired November 12 1985 which I figured out because Kenny Rogers' movie Wild Horses aired November 12th and it was announced over the "March 12" Cap credits. In addition, Craig Carlson is listed in the April credits but not the March. Craig left Capitol sometime after July 1985 before he rejoined OLTL in the credits by October 15, 1985; he was replaced on Cap by Radcliffe and Hamner. In these posted episodes Radcliffe/Hamner names appear in the March 85 episodes but not in the April.

    • 5-15   And now...back to the A plot. I can't say enough about how great this week has been that I've been enjoying the fallout from the SilkPress/Eva reveal. I can't believe that it's been almost a week, and it is STILL going on. And they are playing every beat. And rightfully so. It's a strength to the story that this episode is full of mostly those beats with one (okay 2) C plots. I loved how this episode seem centered on dealing with the Bill of it all from his reactions to the reactions of the ones who actually care about him. And meanwhile, Kat getting a clue and connecting it back to the plot thread of Laura's accident.    Game recognizes game. My way of saying I loved Bill vs Silk Press Sheila. They have great adversarial chemistry. And I loved that Bill not only gave the heads-up to NuTed, but already figured out that Ted had paid her off. A dumbed-down villain Bill definitely is not. And awww at Naomi walking in on him and NuTed. lol. Like father, like daughter cuz they both stay reading people. Also loved the scene of Naomi and Chels together discussing their feelings about their father in light of the reveal.    It's so sad to see Kat thinking in the right direction and STILL took a wrong turn. That said...great to see the Laura plot thread picked up and Kat moving to get to the bottom of it. It's just sad that her strong disdain toward Eva is blinding her to the real threat. Makes her easy prey for SilkPress to manipulate and harder for Eva to get acceptance if people still think she's up to no good. Also intensifies their rivalry. Kat vs Silk Press Sheila was reaaallly good, too. The direction. The camera angles. The lines. Even got background music.

And...HAHAHA I love how SilkPress Sheila reacts to the word 'crazy' the same way Sheila herself reacts to the word 'bitca' right before one of her catfights on B&B. Honorable mention to another SilkPress vs Eva scene where Eva avoids the gaslight and that Andre/Eva scene where he continues to be there for her.    And speaking of the reveal...now that I've seen the full episode...I've warmed to NuTed a bit. I thought in the brief scene I saw on my busy Thursday that he did what I love when a role gets recast. The actor uses some of the mannerisms of their predecessers, but not do a complete parroting of them. And that I felt he pulled off well. It allows for the actor to slowly enter their own vibe to a role and make it their own. And so far...I felt Keith was still...Ted. Love the scenes with NuTed/Kat. But time will tell if I feel he will make it his own.   The only good thing I can say about that Andre/Ashley scene...they both have gotten comfortable in their roles, and it was nice to see. I'm Team Dani/Andre over here. That said...I actually am loving the C plot of Ashley, Derek, and the apartment because they are finally getting drama. And I'm actually Team Derek though I completely understand where Ashley is coming from. Thankful that we got that phone call with her mother for her POV and background life. She really is not used to living with someone and what that is like. And it's relatable. But she's handling it all the wrong way. As for their overall place on the canvas though, I can't help, but think about what I said in the first week...they are just meta to me...getting the development...or lack thereof...that black characters get on other soaps...just in reverse.    Awww at June saying that she just finds the picture lovely. I don't completely believe her hehe, but it was nice.    The anvils about Eva's birthday...smh. lol.
