It was great so many people came together last night like they used to when these shows were originally on the air to watch and talk about it. We need more of this. And by this I mean television that gets us talking (not talking about more of this Live thing, but I'm not entirely against a second go around ... though I doubt ratings lightning can strike twice, it's just rare ... the first always gets a huge turnout)

Those ratings translate to 10ish million and a 1.7 in the demo. Not a huge event (but in this day and age, those are big, but reminds me of Roseanne's revival ratings) but shows that an audience IS there to capture. The networks just ... aren't. They're satisified with 2 million and a 0.5 in the demo nowadays ...

Pretty great.   I also was kinda WTF with the casting of Bentley and with Gloria not being blonde, but I was ok with it.   I would love if they made THE JEFFERSONS back to TV with all of the same casting in the special, probably wouldn't happen esp. with Kerry Washington and Will Farrell.  Heck they could re-cast the Willises and of course, as an on-going series, they'd have to re-cast Florence.   I did think that Wanda Sykes would been a great Florence, but she was good as Louise.   Jamie Foxx as George was spot-on, as was the cast of George's mom and all of the casting on ALL IN THE FAMILY with maybe not Gloria. So glad they brought back Marla Gibbs as Florence, instead of the Latina actress (which would've been a big mistake).

I really need the GT episode to be Penny's Christmas complete with half the audience yelling at Penny to steal the jewelry and the other half telling her not to plus the social worker getting dronk and singing about orthopedic shoes.

Episodes such as "Penny's Christmas" only prove my point: Black folks had the talking-back-to-the-actors thing down pat waaaay before "Mystery Science Theater 3000" appropriated and monetized it.

Michael: "What about the new album by Donna Summers?"

First of all, Michael seemed only too happy to suggest to Penny that she buy it for him rather than for Willona -- a coded reference, perhaps, to Ralph Carter's sexual preference?

Second, what IS it with us (African-Americans) always adding an "s" to Donna's last name?  It ain't the first time I've heard one of my peeps do that; it's not even the tenth or twentieth!

It's Donna SummER, y'all. No "s".

I'm excited for Good Times, but I felt All In the Family was the weaker part last time so hopefully it improves some. Still I'm glad they're doing this. I'd love the soaps to do this, but that would never happen.

    • But that's not weird... nail polish is allowed in prisons via commissary. Same with general makeup, haircuts, and hair colouring products.
    • This is DAYS, the show that said you could brainwash anyone with simple kitchen appliances.  An actor's nail polish or lack thereof should be the least of our concerns, lol.
    • It was not that she wasn't wearing nail polish, it is that she managed to get a manicure in prison
    • "We're Knot Done Yet": the name of this lovely podcast AND what JVA tells her plastic surgeon at every appointment. In other news, Michele Lee is reminding me more and more of my old music teacher from elementary school, and I couldn't STAND that bitch.
    • I apologize if this has been covered already, but does anyone know whether Douglas Marland was HW'ing by that point?  If he was, then I see what he meant when he said (in so many words) that he had inherited a mess when he started at GH.  Aside from Alan and Monica, none of that material seems very promising.  The story with Mark Dante and the Corbins is the wrong kind of predictable (y'know, the kind where you know what's going to happen, but you just don't give a crap?), the stuff with Scotty and Laura is cute but toothless, I don't know WHAT the hell Gina and Steve Carlson's character are arguing about and Rick Webber has to be the dumbest man alive not to see David Hamilton practically twirling his moustache over how to make a killing off Lamont Corbin's declining health.  (By the way, "LAMONT CORBIN"?  What is this, "The Shadow"?  And "Corbin Limited" sounds like some jive I'd hear over on Y&R.) In a way, it's kind of like watching today's GH, right down to the dialogue that's serviceable and pushes plot along but says nothing about the characters' inner lives.
    • It absolutely was; the narrative was there, and they followed it promptly. Maybe that's back when women had babies at young ages?!?!?

    • Thanks for asking that!  Back when we had another major event upcoming (a party or the concert), I had intended to ask what everyone here was planning to wear.

    • Lol. Right?  I mean the show could have framed the 60th anniversary in a different way, but the narrative was celebrating Tom and the hospital. Also, what a weirdly sexist bunch of posts about women's nail polish.  Like, yes, this is Days problem lol.  Stacy Haiduk isn't a good Kristen because she doesn't wear nail polish?  Are we in the 1950's???
