IMO, the "Two Romans" story took too long to unfold and distracted too much from the Roman/Marlena/John/Isabella quadrangle, which is what DAYS viewers cared more about.

Moreover, I didn't enjoy watching John and Marlena have their affair, because I felt they had altered Roman's personality too much in order to make John and Marlena endgame.  Others might disagree, but I just don't feel it was a fair fight.

I am really impressed with HBS.  I loved her as Nora from day one.  But now, when I see ATWT stuff with her On YouTube, I just adore her version of Margo.  And Margo and Nora are not played similarly to me, she inhabits a different character.  Most of the time a soap hopper seems the same to me, but she really does seem different in both roles.

They actually played out the beat of Jesse being compromised well on AMC 2.0. He continued keeping secrets from Angie and lost his job after conspiring with the Russian traffickers in order to save Cassandra (even attempting to frame friend Zach), and when it came out all the other background from the final ABC years was brought up as well, all the other times Angie had felt deceived and betrayed. This left an opening which had Angie and Jesse's marriage in rough straits, while David and Angie grew closer. Jesse got drunk at a Chandler Media gala and lost it when he saw David and Angie dancing together.

I was loving it - both couples (plus David and Cara) were good, Darnell, Debbi and Vincent Irizarry did great work, and they were dealing with the mess ABC had made of Jesse's character honestly for the first time in years.

Lest we forget the best soap of 2013:

I really loved the John/Marlena affair.  Roman was made to look like a jerk though.  He never was given the point of view of struggling to get his life back.  He just got it all back and then was just off on stakeouts or weirdly possessive of Marlena and Carrie.

I think it did sort of right the wrong of the Tale of Two Romans from at least an emotional standpoint.  I never bought that once Roman was found to be Roman and Roman 2 was John everyone just walked away from one another that easily.  I heard that the original story was supposed to involve Isabella as well so both John and Marlena cheated on their spouses.  That might of made more even playing field for all characters.  But then Staci asked for too much money/left and they quickly killed Isabella off.  I do think it was the last good Marlena story before everything devolved into Devils and Camp.

And boy was it quick!  One day, she's walking in the park (with Brady in his stroller) when she has noticeable trouble sitting down; and the next, it was candlelight vigils and final goodbyes.

Great scenes from OLTL:

1995: Viki in therapy about to open a diary in which one of the alters reveals that Victor Lord molested her, and the Tommy personality violently emerges,

Another one from OLTL. (2002) Blair finds out Todd sold baby Jack and told Blair Jack died (thinking Jack was Max's son). Todd learned Jack was his own son then brought the baby back home passing him off as an adopted child. Dramatic moment during a week of LIVE broadcast episodes for May sweeps.

The scenes that won Hillary B. Smith her Emmy: Nora’s closing statement during the trial for Marty’s rape.

I know Manny ate GL in the late ‘90s into the 2000s, but this was absolutely one of the sexiest scenes I remember watching on the show. PAS really sells Danny’s lust for Michelle (then Joie Lenz) starting around 5:30:

Brenda and a drunk Skye going at it on GH, and Vanessa Marcil and Robin Christopher raising each other’s games:

Alexis saying what pretty much everyone wanted to say to Sam in the mid-2000s, and NLG absolutely slaying it. Like much of GH at the time, a great scene surrounded by stupidity and depravity. And remember when Kelly Monaco actually gave a sh!t?

    • I assume they did at some point during the finale...
    • Kelly was a horribly-written character overall. Just think, two Emmy-winning actresses (including Cynthia Watros, Nina, GH, and Annie, GL) couldn't make it work. Pamela is campy, but so are Dani, Vanessa, Leslie, and Joey. And, I don't want to be too judgy because my love for camp changes depending on the show. OLTL, DAYS, and some eras of GH had me rolling with the camp. However, Passions was overkill and I hated it. And, here, I can take it or leave it. It's ok in small doses (note to RC). I see this show as more of a serious drama.
    • I think one of the reasons that pilot didn't get picked up was because Vicki L was associated more with being Thelma Harper and playing older then she was playing her own age.  It was a blessing it didn't get picked up, or we would have been deprived of the syndicated era of Mama's Family.   Also, worth noting a Pre Night Court Marsha Warfield and pre Perfect Strangers Rebecca Arthur in the cast.  All talented women, but stuck with a bad script. And the other pilot had a pre Fran Fine.. Fran Drescher as the best friend.  I think that pilot might have been picked up if Karen Valentine and Fran Drescher switched roles.
    • So, on rewatch....did Rick and Mindy never have sex?
    • Cady had a fairly posh accent or manner as Rosanna - the character was a 180 from Dixie when she went to ATWT, and it was a huge success initially. As someone mostly only familiar with the nagging, miserable or clueless Dixie of the mid-late '90s and early 2000s it was what convinced me Cady could act. I thought she was incredible in her first run. Later, in future stints, her hair and story and performances were all over the place but a lot of that was down to the show for me. She brought some of Rosanna back with her to Dixie in her ill-fated return and a lot of people didn't like it, which I understood but I did think the character needed some change. I think she's had a little bit of the same persona and arch performance in every role she's played since, including Jennifer Horton at DAYS or Kelly at Y&R, who later became a maniac and was easily the worst work I've ever seen Cady do. It has kind of infected her overall mannerisms, I'll allow that, but I do think she brought Dixie back together as herself while still evolving the character when she returned to AMC again in 2012-13. Nonetheless, for me the upshot is that this is a character where Cady's kookier recent performance style suits the role. But I can understand it grating for people.
    • Yeah, Loretta Swit's passing stings. My late dad LOVED the show (he died last November) and watched it religiously. In first run and repeats.  And I was literally born the day after the show's premiere, so I grew up with it! I know many loved later, softer Margaret, but I loved Early Hot Lips. In real life, I'm all for less misogyny, but to me, the early years of M*A*S*H were just funnier. May Loretta Swit rest in peace. Thanks for all the memories connected to my dad!

    • I agree that she isn't Dixie or Rosanna and shouldn't be acting like either. I just found it strange that she had a naive Southern character and a wealthy urbane character in the past and didn't experiment with accents before (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong). She used to do improv characters on YouTube. She's probably doing something similar here.

    • And here I thought I'd never think about Lauren Tewes again after her brief appearance in Twin Peaks Season 3.
    • I may be the single person who does not mind Transatlantic Campy Pamela. I think it perfectly suits this sort of Absolutely Fabulous-esque supporting character she's playing much more than it did when Cady tried weird and often broad stuff at AMC* or Y&R, or later stints at ATWT. She's not Dixie and she's not trying to be. I will freely admit some of the other chances she took at other shows often came off stiff, hammy or downright mortifying (Kelly Andrews, come on down). (* - and I say that as one of the few who was somewhat into Cady trying to make Dixie more cosmopolitan in the Rosanna Cabot mold in mid-2000s AMC, just to liven the character up again)
