GH's casting is horrible.  It's hard to come up with a list of actors I would actually keep without it consisting of less than 5 people.

Is Teschner still casting the show? Remember when he was revered?

tbh I suspect FV has been micromanaging the casting since 2012, and I'm not the only one.

Exactly. And my antennae went up when I read about Shelly Altman’s “modern storytelling sensibilities” followed by praise for Jean Passanante. 

 

We we were all here when Jonny went on and on about their vision as writers, which was laughable.

His casting has been terrible for years. Can't recall the last newcomer who really endeared me right away.  I don't know where he keeps finding these bland one note newbies.

Agreed.  I recall his work being particularly bad for several years at a time before having some decent hires.  The late 1990’s was a rough patch, with several bland or poorly cast choices, then he had a few good years again, then a few bad again.

 

When he is good, it’s great.

 

I think the person/people casting at GL in the entire 1980’s until mid 1990’s had the best track record of just one gem after another with very few duds.

Betty Rea. She was fantastic at GL. 

Betty Rea started  casting GL sometime in the 70s, and for a time was also working for ATWT. (Not sure exactly when that was). I think Teschner is hampered by whomever the executive producer is.

I would agree, but I think his number of duds was about even under Riche and JFP.  He cast a lot of good people for Monty’s second run(but you know she had a hand in that).  

 

For every Brenda, Stone, Patrick and Faith we got bad recasts for Lucky and Nikolas, (not Greg Vaughn!) and a bevy of bland folks like Kristina (first one), Chloe, Hannah, Lucky’s Irish girlfriend, etc.

 

Valentini has been his worst though.

She really was.  I only watched the show a few times back in the day, but YouTube has shown me what a great thing I was missing out on.

 Same here. Out of all the contract actors, I would keep FH, NLG, GF, and KS. ER is alright but I know a better Lulu is probably out there. WK, KW, and Kin  can stay. Either on recurring or I would up them to contract. It would be up to them.  Everyone else can go and I would rebuild the show around the four I would keep. 

 

ETA: JL. Another one that deserves to be upped to contract status.

He is the reason why they probably ended up aging Peter to 40 instead of someone in their 20's and casting him with WR. I think the initial plan was to make Peter's Faison and Anna's from when he kidnapped her in 92.

Because it was a nod back to when GH was actually...GH (i.e. good).

Jon Lindstrom has turned into quite the hot daddy type. Love how Shelly and Chris are writing him. He and Maura West have benefitted most from this team.
