I remember some years ago, when SoapnetΒ  aired like the first two or four episodes ( I can't remember exactly how many ) of Days. I believe they aired those shows to celebrate Days' 40th anniversary. It was interesting and fun to watch and see what type of "drama" they had back then. The most drama I can remember watching from those episodes was a teenage Julie shoplifting and being upset that she didn't get enough attention from her parents. It's interesting to see how the show has changed since then. I am glad that this episode has been put on youtube. I wish we had more older episodes available online.

Β That's all Β

Β

Agreed. That's how I felt. I loved her Susan, personally. But I know the character type Susan is isn't everyone's cup of tea, lol. But in small doses I enjoy her. Stacy did so well. I liked her as Kristen too, maybe a bit too unhinged but at this point in her life I can almost buy Kristen starting to truly lose her mind and become unhinged. Stacy did well with Kristen too but I missed Eileen playing her, but with Susan, I'll take Stacy's version. Weird, I know. LOL

Β

If only ...

Β

I miss Renee Jones a lot. More than I ever expected too (I always loved her and felt she was so vastly underused for the most part). I just miss her presence so much. And I feel the same about Peter Reckell (when Bo wasn't being written as a raging jackass to serve the plot).Β

Β

I miss Salem Place too. Horton Town Square doesn't quite cut it. I need a set overhaul on DAYS asap.

Β

I'm always annoyed when DAYS (and other soaps) do this kind of thing. And Lowder was never a favorite of mine. I like him enough but he's not a good actor.

I agree "a thousand percent" (Β© Jill Zarin, Real Housewives of New York)Β

Β

IΒ respect both their decisions to leave, but selfishly I wish Reckell had just agreed to pop in on a recurring basis with the knowledge that being "frontburner" was not in the cards anymore. They've done that with Josh Taylor for years and barely anyone (us viewers) even cares if he's there. (Christ, can you believe he's played the role over 21 years now? Versus Northrop's total ofΒ 6 years)Β

Β

And Lexie Carver was just a beautiful voice of reason in the crazy DiMera household (plus she could get cray-cray herself when necessary), and a great friend to Marlena, Hope, etc.Β  Plus she could be performing heart surgery one minute, brain surgery the next, and spend her weekend at a crash site as an EMT.Β  The woman did it all!Β

LMAO Lexie certainly did "do it all". I'm all for Nikki Wade coming on and stirring up boring Abe and Val (so dumb to just pair them and give them no real story; but when used in family stuff I like them, but I knew it would just be Val in place for Lexie, more or less, but Williams has a tiny guarantee so ... which is also dumb. USE THE WOMAN)

Β

I respect Jones and Reckell's decisions, too, but I think they were made at a different time on the show. Sadly. I can understand and support them but I selfishly wish they were still popping in. I'd ignore Bo's death. There's a lot I'd ignore (and sometimes try to ...). I kind of feel like part of it was they weren't feeling valued and decided to leave (I think we've had more Stephen Nichols situations than we realize, but just an assumption - but at the same time, when do you/can you accept not being front and center; but I still think they can serve a solid purpose and not just be there for the sake of being there, but that's me). Jones was in and out a few times. I can't fault her for saying bye. She's had a long career. I just miss her on the screen. Reckell too. I get it. Didn't Jones, Reckell, Sweeney and Scott all say "bye" when Tomlin was around (Tomlin also seemed to have no use for Penghlis or Ashford)? It's so hard to remember who did who when we've had so many producers and writers come and go every year. I don't blame any of them from running from Tomlin and Higley.

Β

I really wish they were both here under Carlivati and the new regime. Not perfect by any means but still. I think we take what we can get, sadly, at this point.

So, Kyle Lowder was just live on his Instagram for DAYS' 53rd anniversary on-set celebration, and you see Arianne Zuker there looking camera-ready and she says, "no I can't be shown" and Kyle says, "you're just here for the celebration!"Β  Hmm... methinks Nicole will be appearing again in 6 months or 9 months or sometime in 2020.Β

Β

Β

I have little doubt Carlivati *would* use them both. He'd probably love to turn Lexie back over to the dark side...Β

I'm growing tired of Kate, personally. Not her airtime, just the character feels tired at this point. I guess for many she's felt tired for years now. Nothing to do with Koslow either. Just Kate constantly feels "been there, done that" but again I guess we could say that about soaps in general, lol

    • Cady had a fairly posh accent or manner as Rosanna - the character was a 180 from Dixie when she went to ATWT, and it was a huge success initially. As someone mostly only familiar with the nagging, miserable or clueless Dixie of the mid-late '90s and early 2000s it was what convinced me Cady could act. I thought she was incredible in her first run. Later, in future stints, her hair and story and performances were all over the place but a lot of that was down to the show for me. She brought some of Rosanna back with her to Dixie in her ill-fated return and a lot of people didn't like it, which I understood but I did think the character needed some change. I think she's had a little bit of the same persona and arch performance in every role she's played since, including Jennifer Horton at DAYS or Kelly at Y&R, who later became a maniac and was easily the worst work I've ever seen Cady do. It has kind of infected her overall mannerisms, I'll allow that, but I do think she brought Dixie back together as herself while still evolving the character when she returned to AMC again in 2012-13. Nonetheless, for me the upshot is that this is a character where Cady's kookier recent performance style suits the role. But I can understand it grating for people.
    • Yeah, Loretta Swit's passing stings. My late dad LOVED the show (he died last November) and watched it religiously. In first run and repeats.Β  And I was literally born the day after the show's premiere, so I grew up with it! I know many loved later, softer Margaret, but I loved Early Hot Lips. In real life, I'm all for less misogyny, but to me, the early years of M*A*S*H were just funnier. May Loretta Swit rest in peace. Thanks for all the memories connected to my dad!

    • I agree that she isn't Dixie or Rosanna and shouldn't be acting like either. I just found it strange that she had a naive Southern character and a wealthy urbane character in the past and didn't experiment with accents before (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong). She used to do improv characters on YouTube. She's probably doing something similar here.

    • And here I thought I'd never think about Lauren Tewes again after her brief appearance in Twin Peaks Season 3.
    • I may be the single person who does not mind Transatlantic Campy Pamela. I think it perfectly suits this sort of Absolutely Fabulous-esque supporting character she's playing much more than it did when Cady tried weird and often broad stuff at AMC* or Y&R, or later stints at ATWT. She's not Dixie and she's not trying to be. I will freely admit some of the other chances she took at other shows often came off stiff, hammy or downright mortifying (Kelly Andrews, come on down). (* - and I say that as one of the few who was somewhat into Cady trying to make Dixie more cosmopolitan in the Rosanna Cabot mold in mid-2000s AMC, just to liven the character up again)
    • There’s absolutely nothing exciting happening storyline wise but I’m always happy to see the vets on my screen so I’ll take what I can get. It’s also just nice to see them all dressed up in the same room, it always gives classic Y&R vibes. The best part? No Phyllis.Β

    • Well now we had Ashley's reaction-and weren't we all gasping when she appeared to hate it-but she was just joking!! She loved it. Now we have to see Abby's reaction, and maybe Mamie could come back to say she loves it. How about Jill via Zoom giving her opinion (she'll love it) and bring in a day player to play Mrs Martinez to say she loves it also... I feel bad to keep dumping on this show (not really) but when the choices they make are so inane, it's the only entertainment value the show has. Let's unpack the Nikki birthday story. So Claire wants to throw her Nana a birthday bash as away of endearing Kyle to Victor. Don't quite get the logic there, but OK. She hires a party planner who makes ridiculous suggestions. Slightly annoyed that Y&R are hiring someone for this role for 5 episodes when we never see doctors, co- workers etc. But OK to that to. With all the talk we are expecting something special. What we get is the Jazz Lounge hideously decorated with some ugly tablecloths and a few tacky decorations. They needed a planner for this? Then the guest list consists of family members (no grandchildren)and a few others. Hardly a party. As usual the costuming is pretty awful. A red and black theme ? And our guest of honor is sporting a do that looks like a cross between Cameron Diaz in Something about Mary and Marie from Roxette. They should have had an intimate dinner and ditched all the fanfare. Would have been way more believable.
