I think it depends. There are public shamings that everyone knows about (ie, Alex confronting Roger about Mindy), things that are accepted (long lost children) and secrets known to only a few (Thorne shooting Ridge, or Rick shooting Ridge, which I'm not even sure Rick knows that he did).

Soap kids in general, know the broad strokes of their parents' lives, if not the dirty deets. Marah and Shayne probably understood Reva had married both Billy and HB, but I'm not sure they knew Reva miscarried HB's baby.

I don't think they really did, but I was reminded that Nola had something to do with Roger when she first appeared.

Debbie mentioned in an interview that Susan gave her a going away party when she left the show and I found that so curious as I struggled to remember Angie/Erica scenes from my childhood. Of course they surely spent endless hours at the studio together, but I just couldn't remember their characters interacting.

Btw, I smile every time I read this thread title. #Mariah

I recall during Erica's murder trial for killing Kent Bogard (I think that was the character) that Angie's mom Pat was interviewed as a possible jury member for the case.. so the show at that time showed that Erica and the Baxters didn't interact.

The only time Erica/Angie might have interacted was in 1987 when there was a crime ring involving Angie's father.. and Travis was mixed up in it.. it was when he/Erica were newlyweds.  That was the only time I could think of Angie/Erica interacting.

I also don't think Erica ever spoke to Liza Colby before she returned as an adult.  Ms. Kane was not into talking to the younger set when she was in her 20's modeling and going to discos.  Conversely, Lucinda Walsh and Katherine Chancellor were always somehow interacting with teens like Tess or Britney.

I could swear SB's Carly and Brenda interacted more than that, especially once Jason got back together with Robin. They had a few little tiffs. I remember enjoying the scenes because both ladies went for it.

Erica was out of town and in her own world for so much of the early/mid 80s when AMC had a decent number of long-running characters on the canvas. It's hard to say with the first 6-7 years not really in existence, but how much time, if any, did she spend with the Martins outside of Jeff, Tad, and Tara? I'm assuming her relationships with/marriages to Jeff and Phil through the mid 70s might've put her in scenes with Ruth, Joe, and Kate (maybe Paul, too?) more than a few times, but once the 80s hit, those were no longer her people.

When did Erica/Myrtle become a thing?

I do agree that in 1981/82.. Erica was in her own world... but I noticed by 1983, the show started to integrate her back into the rest of the canvas even though she still resided in New York City till 1984.  In 1983, has her starting to interact more with the Cortlandts, and she interacts with Ruth/Joe/Kate again due to the fact that Tad saves her bacon by helping her expose Silver as a con artist...  Her close ties to Jenny/Tad in 1982/3 tie her to Opal (at this time, the two can't stand one another... and Myrtle is closer to Opal than Erica during this time).  Plus, Nina's newest squeeze Steve (causing break up #2) is Erica's attorney during the murder trial... and Nina/Erica are friendly... and Erica/Palmer team up against Ken's father Lars for different reasons (Erica for being passed over for a spokesperson job and Palmer is jealous that Daisy is dating Lars).  But I don't recall when Myrtle/Erica became a thing.. I'm thinking once Mona passes away and Myrtle becomes a surrogate mom for her in the 90s maybe?

When Victor came on in 1980, did he ever interact with the Fosters ? I know he did the Brooks to a certain extent along with the Prentiss brothers and Katherine/Brock.

You both may be right.  I can only recall and have seen on youtube again a scene at the police station with Sonny, Jason, Brenda, Carly, etc and Brenda randomly asked her if she had a ride home circa 1997.  Jason took her....It was the first time I can recall them interacting.  Then the scene with Jason, Carly, and Brenda (I thought Jax was involved but no) literally coming at each other over Robin.  Brenda was coming in especially hot for sorta no reason.  And then them sparring briefly at the Docks Gala/Shooting in 1998 because Jason took Carly as his date.  I haven't done an extensive search but I don't think they really shared any scenes except for maybe occasionally bitchiness at large events.

    • This is where McLaibey falls apart. It becomes clear that McTavish had not thought past Brent/Marion...so the energy drops and she starts throwing things at the wall (Blakes twins, Lonatrat.)   Fans HATED this funeral. Everyone is mad at everyone else, which is fine, the death of a beloved community figure would give people a reason to come together...(Quint and Nola could come together at least for  a bit to support each other, Nola and VAn could finally admit they kinda, sorta like each other) Its just an example of McTavish's mean writing.   I have a feeling they were going to make Dahlia Frank's kid but they chickened out. Making Tina a prostitute didn't help, they could have been lovers when they were young but felt society pressure to part. Marcus took over David's role (you can't have two young black men at that time...)   Get used to it...this will happen, the same storyline over and over until the end.
    • Does anyone happen to have a recording or any footage of Jennifer’s funeral?
    • It's such a shame that the conflict couldn't be resolved in a mature way between the two actors.. especially since Albee was a bigger asset for the show in terms of character and his popular will they/won't they pairing with Deborah Saxon. One of the things about Edge was that it was just as popular with male viewers as it was with women.  It's one of things I think the show forgot in the final year or two with the deemphasis on the male characters.
    • Daytime Confidential did a podcast of the worst mothers in soaps and here were their lists.  5.Felicia Scorpio 4.Reva Shayne 3.Dina Mergeron 2.Helena Cassadine/Shelia Carter 1.Brooke Logan Dishonorable Mentions- Stephanie Forrester,Ann Douglas, Phyllis Summers and Joanna Manning Joshua 5.Anna Devane 4.Diane Jenkins 3.Ava Vitali 2.Shelia Carter 1.Brooke Logan Dishonorable Mentions-Alexis Davis, Felicia Scorpio, Eve Donovan, Heather Webber, Natalia Ramirez, Stephanie Forrester, and Ruth Martin Luke 5.Natalia Ramirez 4.Diana Coville 3.Helena Cassadine 2.Alexis Davis 1.Arlene Vaughn Dishonorable Mentions-Stephanie Forrester Now for my comments. Wonder what Ruth Martin ever did to this guy?!!! I mean Ruth Martin? I don't get it. Next, IMO they are just picking on Eve Donovan. Who is Dina Mergeron? Same question  Joanna Manning? Diana Colville Is that because of the bad DAYS retcon of her being Leo Stark's mother? All of the rest, CO-SIGN!

    • I don't really care about what the men are wearing, or not wearing.   What I care about is focusing on the writing and character development for each of the male characters. Andre really doesn't have a lot of character development that sets him apart from the other male characters except that he seems content to be degraded and mistreated by the elitist Dani.  I would like to know why a good looking younger guy like Andre would willingly be at the mercy of an emotional vampire such as Dani.   Martin, on the other hand, seems to have decent character development.. and it is partly due to how the actor chooses to recite his lines.  Martin was raised in a very privileged household and probably went to the best schools... so it makes sense that he would come across as thinking he was above everyone else.  Most people raised in a upper class situation as the Duprees would view themselves as better than others (it's the same trait Dani seems to employ on those she feels superior to). It makes me wonder how Nicole came out of that family being so warm and nurturing  when her family dynamics seemed very appearance oriented.
    • I know, right. I after just re-reading the thread, I'm like ooppph!
    • Lulu and Dante were divorced before her coma, but she was still in love with him.  He just didn't know.  They haven't been married for years.    I was pretty mixed about Lulu getting involved when it was just a child out there in the world, but now that she realizes it's Gio I am okay with her telling Dante.  It also is her son's sibling.  I still think it's BLQ's choice though.  Lulu is in a rough spot because I think Dante will be mad if she keeps it a secret and Chase, Brook, Lois, etc will be mad if Lulu tells. Without veering too far into the classic area of the show, I had no problem with Robin telling AJ about Michael.  It may not have *exactly* been her place, but she could see how Carly was manipulating the entire situation.  It also ruined her romantic relationship with Jason for good.  Jason and Sonny were furious with Robin and practically ran her out of town, so I think we were to believe she was the bad guy.  It was a bit out of character for Robin to spill, but KMc was leaving the show.
