And before Sisters, it was 227, Amen, Golden Girls, Empty Nest, and Hunter. I liked Hunter. (I liked Sisters, too, and watched it with my grandmother on Saturday nights.)

Wow, the days of first-run shows on Saturday night on network TV...

  • Boston Public: Stopped watching during the 3rd season.
  • Brothers & Sisters: Never watched the final season.
  • ER: Stopped at the beginning of season 11. I think my last episode was Corday's exit. Watched the finale, though.
  • Grey's Anatomy: Stopped watching somewhere around season 9.
  • Masters of Sex: The show became a snoozefest in season 2 so I dropped out.
  • Nip/Tuck
  • Providence
  • Revenge
  • Weeds: Loved the first two seasons, but stopped watching after the 3rd.

Uffff, I have a lot to add in this thread, so let's start.

Gossip Girl - stopped watching around Katie Cassidy guest-starring and then I never really returned. Good decision.

90210 (2.0) - I think I was already done with the show by the end of season 2, however I do remember checking out the s3 premiere and then I decided this show wasn't working for me anymore. Especially when they've announced Jennie Garth was not going to be coming back anymore. Blergh.

Pretty Little Liars - this was always a little guilty pleasure of mine because it was SO ridiculous, however around s4 (when they've aired the Christmas episode) I decided I'll stop watching it now and just wait for the conclusion. And boy, was I disappointed with the whole "Who is A" storyline so I never returned to the show.

2 Broke Girls - this one really hurt because I LOVED both Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs, but the show was barely watchable and so I stopped watching at the end of s4.

Arrow - it's technically still on air and I do watch The Flash/Supergirl, so maybe I'll tune in back one day, but it quickly became the show where they've completely killed the element of surprise due to other characters dying and then coming back alive over and over again. The Vampire Diaries suffered from the same syndrom, however I did enjoy watching it a lot more than Arrow. Plus, Katie Cassidy, ugh.

Cedar Cove - first of all, I love me some Hallmark shows and movies. This one was incredibly dull but the scenery was fascinating. Would move to Cedar Cove in a heartbeat. The pacing of the show was really slow and I was done after s2.

Chicago Med - I still watch Fire/P.D. (although the latter is becoming seriously dull without Sophia Bush), but I couldn't get into Med at all. I've watched s1 and then sometimes around episode 5-6 of s2 just abandoned it. Still hurts because I love Colin O'Donnell.

Girl meets world - Boy meets world was a HUGE deal when I was growing up, so I thought this would probably work for me considering I was really interested to see how Topanga & Cory would work as parents to two kids. However, the cringe-worthy Disney-iness of the show killed it for me. I wasn't Disney's target audience, but I would have seen this one rather on a channel like Freeform or even Netflix. Too bad.

Madam Secretary - from an European standpoint, the show was very "America is the greatest country in the world and the rest of the world looks like THIS (insert stereotype)". I loved the cast, but the writing was just not working for me, I was rolling my eyes during most of the first s1 & s2.

The Mindy Project - I LOVED Mindy. LOVED. But the moment they turned Danny Castellano as a completely different character = jerk, I did not care for the show anymore. Plus, they gave waaaaaay to much of time to Ike Barinholtz's character.

Quantico - the show was terrible and I watched the whole s1 because I'm a masochist, I guess.

I gave up on the very, very iffy 90210 reboot when they dumped Jennie Garth, Shannen, and all trace of the adults like Lori Loughlin, Rob Estes, etc. The show had a lot of potential and got quite bad.

I gave up on nip/tuck and all Ryan Murphy products around mid-Season 4, when I realized he would keep coming back every 7-10 episodes whenever he got bored to ruin all the other writers' hard character work and storytelling, and the actors' performances, with ridiculous twists and character assassination camp that would wreck the show again and again. This was a preview of what he later did on shows with Glee, before eventually settling on doing short-term anthology series where he wouldn't have to worry about character continuity and could be less bored - but he can't even manage to keep those shows consistent for a single season anymore, either.

I think CC hung on for one more season before Hallmark cancelled it -- probably because, they FINALLY remembered it was on their network.

IMHO, Disney might've owned "Boy Meets World," but "Girl Meets World" had no business being on the Disney Channel (and I say that as one who never cared at all for BMW, too).  Michael Jacobs should have done like Jeff Franklin did w/ "Fuller House" and took the concept to Netflix.

You know, I've often wondered whether Ryan Murphy would be better off working in films, where he can spend only 2-3 hours per story.

    • Cast changes in 2025 (so far, not much has happened): GZSZ Pauline Afaja (Flo Kästner) departed on March 10th, 2025. She had only been on the show for about a year. Flo as a character never really clicked with the audience. Her final storyline involved her catching feelings for the much older Nina Reichelt Klee Ahrens Navarro out of the blue – while she was in a relationship with the wheelchair-bound Jonas Seefeld. Onno Buß joined the cast as Julian Kaltenbach on January 31st, 2025. Julian is Matilda's twin brother ... and another illegitimate child of Jo Gerner. Charlott Reschke, who had played Johanna Flemming on a recurring basis from 2015 to 2024, returned at the end of May. The 20-year old actress has now been placed on contract. Last week on GZSZ:

    • Not to ramble too far off topic but it happens a lot with comics too, especially only wanting to keep cheap talent around and pushing out creative voices. There are some patches where creatives can go to start their own worlds...wish that was true with soaps, but who knows, maybe it can happen someday. I never thought we'd get a new soap this year.
    • Very true & also at least in the case of stand-out HWs, it is fraught with exhaustion & burnout.
