Of all the performers recently on the canvas, no one deserves to be on GH more than Genie Francis. With her longevity, history, and popularity, she represents the show's heart. There is almost nothing remaining on this series of its roots; almost nothing that makes GH...GH.

TPTB continue to decimate the remaining soaps, alienating viewers more and more. Looking at the current cast list, I would personally axe 80% of GH's cast. At this point, the real GH is dead. If its current incarnation were to be cancelled tomorrow, would anybody really, REALLY care?

I would be relieved.  I've been watching since I was about 16 years old. The CBS soaps were really my soaps, but a friend got me into GH.  At this point it's not only a chore to watch, but I feel like I'm allowing TPTB to insult me by tuning in. It's just a bad habit I wish I could break.

I know fans who have watched for decades and would still care, but they aren't on social media. And they're the ones the show likely cares least about.

EW actually spoke to Genie's agent, so we have information on the record from her camp. So good on them...

ABC may give FV the boot now

So what is it with GH and the female vets on the show, they tried to fire Becky twice and now Genie gets the boot(and has always been treated like she and Laura are nothing)

I hear you. I was just saying the other day that they have a long history of screwing over female leads. Sarah, Tamara, Vanessa. I wonder if the show had treated Jane Eliot better over the years, if she would still be on the show? The list goes on and on of women who were screwed at contract time while men were accommodated.

I don't get it either, dragonflies.  ESPECIALLY when you look back at GH's history and realize that it has been the women who have pulled the show out of the fire again and again.  Not just Genie/Laura, but Rachel Ames/Audrey and even Denise Alexander when she first joined the show as Lesley.  And of course, let's not forget the show's original heroine, Emily McLaughlin/Jessie, who got treated VERY badly, IMO, when Gloria Monty arrived and Jessie way the hell back to the back burner after being, at one time, the most popular (female) character on the show.  It's just maddening.

If you'll notice, though, she only came back to GH the second time after Gloria Monty was no longer EP.

Add Finola to that list.  Crapped on at the end of her first run by Monty.  Then Guza would only use her as a joke.  It wasn’t until Night Shift 2 and Carlivati that I got to see Finola closer to her original character than I had in years.

The fact that Monica is still on the show at all is a miracle.  If Finola leaves no actress that was popular in the hey day of the show is still on contract.  In the current soap climate that is a problem.
