I figured that ABC didn’t have any other options here. The blowback would have been too strong.

I suspect that ABC already had a case of buyer's remorse. The ratings are half of what they were at the beginning of the season and they had already said they would be backing away from political topics next season.

I'd feel sorry, too, except I ALSO feel they knew who she was when they agreed to come back or work with her.  I mean, forget about today.  Why would anyone sane want to work with Roseanne after all the backstage drama that had transpired during the original series?  It just never made any sense to me.

For one thing, if they had kept the show on the air, advertisers would have felt the pressure to pull their ads, resulting in lost revenue.

I think a lot of these people thought that they could control some of the chaos.

If that's true, then shame on them.  Nine years' worth of history should have told them that controlling anything connected to Roseanne was a dicey proposition (at best).

I'd have to disagree there. The numbers were still phenomenal for 2018, and political discussion was only showcased for one single episode. 

I honestly didn't think they'd cancel, but yeah I think it was a lot of buyer's remorse so to speak

It’s a shame because I thought the show was often very good. And I think the cast had a genuine fondness for Roseanne. But as Maya Angelou said, when people show you who they are, believe them the first time.

Honestly, the minute I heard that Roseanne Connor would be coming out as a Trump supporter, I knew the whole damn thing was doomed.  Regardless of Roseanne Barr's actual feelings on the subject, Roseanne Connor would never -- NEVER -- have voted for Trump; and as Douglas Marland would say, "When they say 'He/she wouldn't do that,' you've failed."

I'm very disappointed to say the least. "Love the sinner, hate the sin," but damn lady, I can't stan for you anymore... 

I suppose it's for the best, but ABC knew exactly what they were getting into with Roseanne Barr, so they should have known something would blow up...

 

I am shocked but yeah advertisers would have been pulling out left and right 

 

I saw that tweet from Chris Hayes apparently he's hosting a townhall tonight on racism and Valerie Jarrett is one of the attendees.

ABC had no choice wish they get rid of Roseanne and keep rest of cast.
