What character was a favorite of yours until the actor playing the role ruined it for you?

Sadly, this was one of my first thoughts when I saw the thread title. She was such a favorite, until her stank attitude behind the scenes and onscreen lack of interest totally tainted the character. The fact that she didn't appear for the finale week (and viewers didn't cry foul over her lack of presence) is telling of the damage done at the end.

Wasn't she playing Harley-lite Taylor on AMC at the time? I was pissed that Brian Frons wouldn't let JvD come over for a day or two. Can't remember if they even tried, but remember that it would have been a non-starter with ABC.

Cady McClain as Rosanna on ATWT. I loved the original Rosanna, as played by Yvonne Perry. When they started making the character bitchier, and finally recast her, it was 100% a different character.

Susan Flannery - DAYS and B&B (thanks Khan)

Yep. Agreed. And that says a lot that Matt Ashford is still, by and large, considered the definitive Jack Deveraux since he was the third actor in the role himself. But the other two before him, James Acheson and Joseph Adams, were a blink and Ashford got the good writing, so it makes sense.

Ahh, what am I missing with him?? I remember him on GL, I have seen clips of him on SB and ATWT, is he really good??? He seemed so over the top and shouty to me.

Also screw ABC for not letting JvD do the end of GL. They made Ross stay dead. In my head, no body = not dead (which I usually hate, but in Ross' case I'll take it).

    • I'm all for it. Get them Nina!
    • I am blown away that Christie Clark is 51, and she debuted 39 years ago. They gave her a lovely script today.  But, I could not think of any other examples in culture of someone able to jump right back into the skin of a character, after virtually retiring from acting years ago. I was trying to recall if Carrie left for a bit with Anna after Roman died (because she wasn't at Bo & Hope's wedding), and then returned as a pre-teen Christie?  Or if she was just SORASed off-screen?  But, whenever I see the character I am reminded how much more trauma she's endured than Sami, and yet she remains such a nice person.
    • Weirdly I feel like Nina was the most sus about the entire situation.  Normally I would have given this one to Carly, but Nina was always kind of trying to make it make sense. I think Nina (and Alexis) are actually really smart characters.  They just constantly get in their own way with dumb plans lol.
    • Rewatching some of 1991 I had to appreciate what a strong week March 5-12 1991 was. Cassandra dies, Nina shoots David, Sheila switces the babies, and drunk Nikki all occurring simultaneously. 1991 and 92 were pretty strong overall.
    • Still loving all the Gio fallout, but the scenes that really surprised me this episode were the ones with Nina and Maxie. I was not expecting Nina to be the one to put together all the pieces about Sasha's baby daddy. This custody hearing is about to get explosive!
    • I really hope after the secret comes out their interactions don't stop
    • BAHAHA  I needed that laugh today. Talk about one note.  I would put Derek and Ashley a notch above Dani. Dani's scenes are basically rinse, lather, and repeat for 60 episodes and counting.  It's as if she was transported from the soap opera Passions onto this soap.  MVJ should put aside her friendship/admiration for Karla and look at the fact that this character isn't wroking as written.
    • Agreed.  It doesn't feel in character at all.
    • You could always tell whenever Douglas Marland enjoyed writing for a particular actor, because he'd pull out all the stops for them; and Julianne Moore was no exception.
    • I'm sorry, but I just can't get past the fact that it was Lois, of all people, who deceived so many people.  No matter how hard Rena Sofer tries to justify Lois' actions - and boy, does she work hard! - it just isn't something Lois would've done.
