Victoria Rowell to sue CBS

I was under the impression VR was suing because she was blackballed by CBS. No?

IDK but if that's the case then she might have a case. But she needs to target CBS and SONY. Not the Bell family, who I am now hearing is getting sued as well. I don't like that. She should not take a shot at Bill Bell's legacy. Especially when they were extremely close and she deems him as her mentor.

I feel like because she was so close to Bill and now she's being shut out, she is lashing out in pain at this point. Y&R is probably the one thing she feels is like a connection between her and Bill, who was possibly viewed as a father figure by her.

How about Renee Goldsberry as the new Drucilla on the young and the restless

Shouldn't this go in the general Y&R thread?

I agree with you or even (*gasps*) a web series to air on Amazon or Netflix?

This may sound hokey but if I had the chance to talk to her, I would encourage her to take that energy (like someone else posted previously in this thread) and put it into a Part Steamboat part 30 Rock-like script, skewering the industry. Join forces with someone like Robert Townsend (remember how funny The Bold, The Black, The Beautiful was?) and create a pilot and head to Amazon or Netflix with it.

This thing with CBS seems like...I just don't know.

Exactly. She should take her soap spoof to Amazon or Netflix and start making her coins. The novel was hilarious and juicy. She needs to focus on that because it could be her bread and butter.

I miss Drucilla and VR on Y&R. Just like I miss HT as Victoria. But I don't think either will happen again, and truthfully, I'm okay with it. Why? Because what I miss are those characters under the pen of Bill Bell.

Also, even if some of the players involved don't think their actions were racist, VR does, and her feelings shouldn't just be brushed away. Jesus Braeden and Melody have gotten away with rude, arrogant crap for decades.

PREACH!

VR has yet to get into a physical altercation with a co worker and she has not spit in anyone's face, but she's the worst? Whatever!

And lastly, I wonder if all this attention from cries of racism will prompt CBS or Sony to do better by Y&R's black characters.

It will!

Look at the meaty frontburner storylines Mason, Leslie, Barton & Tyler are currently in!

Victoria hasn't had a serious acting job since she left Y&R. I can't help but feel this lawsuit is partly because no one is offering her roles and she's pissed that her bridges at Y&R have been burnt. So many out of work actors have done similar things.

If it were that easy (especially for Black actors) to produce shows EVERYONE would have a show on the air.

VR has valid issues in what she's talking about but the amount of years that have passed...she should've done what Hunter Tylo did with Aaron Spelling in a relatively short time frame but the amount of years that have passed, though but I guess if she is framing it as not just her but part of a larger pattern, but she'd have to present other examples-- would other Black actors vouch for her?

I just wonder if it will be time (and money) well spent.

You aren't implying there are double standards at work are you? laugh.png

Theres been so many worse daytime divas than her. Just the Y&r males alone.

As unlikely as it is I hope some how some way she wins.

Of course, being a Woma of Color and a writer myself, I know it is NOT easy. The difference between VR and most other people is that she has a network of people she has worked with over her career and irrespective of daytime, she has a fair amount of goodwill. Issa Rae is an example of someone who is now stepping out to do her work, on what appears to be her own terms.

I honestly think that if VR gets a great few scripts put together and gets in contact with a few of her most famous, most influential contacts, she could make something happen on some level.

For what it's worth, I wish her well, regardless.

She thinks the Bell's are part of the issue clearly, and why she's not been offered a home at B&B, unlike past Y&R stars. The Bell's have distanced themselves from her as well.

She still works (about as much as any 50+ Black actress these days).

It's not a lot of mainstream work (outside of theater) for middle aged Black actresses (even in 2015).
