August 28, 201411 yr Member I really hated that we lost Howard Rollins from the show. Carl Weathers was not a good replacement at all!
August 28, 201411 yr Member I love this show! They filmed it in my dad's hometown and a few family members were extras. I used to think Bubba was so fine! I will watch this.
August 28, 201411 yr Member Mmmmm that Alan Autry, though! I have no problems with this. ITHOTN is one of those things that can be adapted over and over again, IMO, and still have relevance. Full House? Not so much.
August 28, 201411 yr Author Member I thank the Good Lord every day that they made "Every Man's Family." Otherwise, I still would have been confused about my sexuality. ICAM, Chit, about the addition of Carl Weathers to the show. I get what Carroll O'Connor was attempting to do, but I think he chose the wrong actor to do it. Perhaps he should have skewed a bit older and hired John Amos? Maybe he could have played a retired cop who is called back into service to run the Gillespie-less Sparta P.D.? I don't know. Regardless, I think O'Connor and his team recognized immediately they had made a mistake. That's why Weathers seems to be on less and less as episodes progress. Of course, that meant others had to pick up the slack, and you KNOW you are in trouble when you build a whole episode around Parker Williams.

August 28, 201411 yr Member What is this? Never seen/heard of it. But that Bubba fellow (back then) was yummy. Not sure about seeing him shirtless all the time now....

August 28, 201411 yr Member It really captured the post civil rights era south, it didn't go over the top with the racism element, but it was very clearly expressed and I liked how Gillespe was shown to still be battling his own racial demons, to some extent. As far a reboot goes, I would hope that they could capture that same sort of vibe, but from a modern perspective.
August 28, 201411 yr Author Member Mmmmm that Alan Autry, though! If they don't include him somehow in the reboot, they will surely fail. Bubba doesn't still have to be on the force. He could be retired, let's say, and running the Mason Dixieline, which has become a sort of "cop bar" in the years since he took it over. Or he could be the mayor of Sparta, in a nod to AA's real-life political career. Or he could just hang outside the courthouse all day in nothing but a pair of jeans and a hat. He just has to be there. Not sure about seeing him shirtless all the time now.... Yeah, you're probably right, lol. But isn't it nice to dream? Edited August 28, 201411 yr by Khan

A television show based on the film of same name (Academy Award Best Picture winner) starring Sidney Poitier. Basically about a black detective moving back to his Mississippi hometown being the lead detective in a newly integrated police department. ETA: Luke Everett from the later years could have gotten it too. Edited August 28, 201411 yr by Eric83
August 28, 201411 yr Author Member ETA: Luke Everett from the later years could have gotten it too. Yes. Yes, he could.
August 28, 201411 yr Member Yeah, you're probably right, lol. But isn't it nice to dream? lol In our dreams, he can still look just as hot! A television show based on the film of same name (Academy Award Best Picture winner) starring Sidney Poitier. Basically about a black detective moving back to his Mississippi hometown being the lead detective in a newly integrated police department. Thanks! It sounds very interesting. Was it serialized, or case of the week? ETA: Luke Everett from the later years could have gotten it too. Jesus. I might just have to find a way to watch this.
