The more I look at that shirt, the more I question whether Richard Bloore didn't make it from some leftover fabric for some character's sofa back in the '70's.

Catching up on Days just now, and I just can't with Abby. If EJ wanted her back she would have dropped everything to be with him again, that's something that the show has showed us multiple times. That little conversation they had in the park on July 30th was ridiculous. EJ's "It Get's Better Speech" was beyond asinine, I don't know what the writers are trying to do with that. If they are trying to show that Abby is moving on they are doing a poor job of it, having her crying and clinging to the hope that EJ will come back to her shows the opposite. Same with them having these EJ/Abby scenes at all. They shouldn't interact anymore.

Outside of the EJ thing, I think the Sami vs. Abby rivalry was starting to show it's potential. If AS was staying they could have become the next Kate/Sami with all the back and forth.

I think it's eating Sami up inside that everyone is on Abby's side and everyone is ashamed and deplored by Sami's behavior. It must kill her that Kayla, Adrianne, Marlena, Will and all of her loved ones are siding with Abby while they are ashamed of her, even when Sami (for once) did nothing wrong in the situation and is the injured party. I think that talk with JJ really got to her in that regard. Her son is ashamed of her, her mother is ashamed of her, her entire extended family is ashamed of her. The Horton's love Abby and there is nothing she could ever do to make that change. The same can't be said for Sami. Somethings never change. Sami is still public enemy number one in Salem. I also thought this bridged well with her trying to go back to Rafe. Abby really got to Sami and her insecurities. Her looking back on her relationships with EJ and Rafe and telling herself that "she knows she made them happy", and how they can "never be fulfilled" by relationships with younger women, respectively Abigail and Jordan was telling. This kind of bridges to my next point.

Sami is delusional, she is so narcissistic to think that Rafe wants her again. It's that same delusion that caused her to believe that Austin was in love with her. Laughs. She's barking up the wrong tree with Rafe -- Rafe never wanted endless passion and a world of excitement, he never felt that Sami was the other half of him or that they were the love of each others lives. He fell in love with a shell of Sami that never existed, and she still doesn't understand that she can never be what he needs her to be. The one that is the person she is looking for, the relationship that she is hungry for is that one that she had with EJ. Regardless it was fun watching Sami fall on her face when she realized Rafe was there because he was pissed that she hurt Jordan. Sami's always good for the lulz, so pathetic and ridiculous. She never gets enough of being humiliated. He really broke her down though. Sami is a selfish person who wants deep in her heart to make everyone miserable because that's the way she is inside. She'll never be happy and as a result she makes everyone around her miserable. She doesn't really want Rafe to be happy, she just wants Rafe for herself, in her pocket.

Sort of off-topic: Why would DiMera board members be thrilled with losing a company at half the price it is worth? The whole thing sounds odd. How can it be draining the company funds and then be sold for half the price it is worth? Sami and Kate aren't thinking in the long term it seems. EJ and Stefano have all of these things in place for a reason, and it's obvious Kate and Sami have no sense of forethought in regards to business. Sami is going to get stomped (as she always does when she goes up against EJ), if EJ comes at her full force. That being said I am starting to think EJ is goingto die in the end thanks to his deal with Victor's men. Either that or Sami is going to be hurt in the end.

    • I know Curlee/Demorest tried to give Roger a conscience in regard to raping Holly, and Zas is magnificent in those scenes with Alex. But he kinda ends up blaming Adam and the fact he (well, really the writers) ignores raping Rita and being responsible for her and Ed's child's death make it less than convincing.  I do think during 89-93 they were careful to not whitewash his past with Holly, but his occasional bouts of conscience always seemed to be overridden by his obsession/lust for her. The only purely good thing I can ever recall him doing is helping Maureen during the blackout, and even then, had she lived, he would've found a way to call that favor in. I've kinda resisted saying it, but it's kind of clear to me Long was determined to have her own version of Erica Kane, and God help us all, it ended up as Reva Shayne. Although at least Kim could act. (Sorry LaLucci fans) Honestly, I'm not even sure CBS soaps ever a character as larger than life as Reva.
    • Regardless, I'd still like to see more episodes from the 80s...there is very little of Charlotte Greer, Kirklands and Greenberg's out there sadly.
    • A black family having a white maid would be a good subversion of stereotypes. Also want to say that while the overall show has many flaws, the biggest one that's legitimately stifling is the lack of a rival family.
    • I also do not like the bits I've seen with Delia during Labine's 83 return. I am glad when she came back for the last time in 1986, she allowed Delia to move on from Frank.
    • Thanks for the well-detailed reply. I'm fairly early in my viewing, so I have some time before it goes nuts. Thanks a lot! @kalbir and @DRW50 thank you so much. I am just approaching 100 episodes, so I'm good for now.
    • The Duprees as the main family isn't the problem, but the fact is that over 3/4 of the cast are Duprees.. so it limits coupling potential and also keeps the canvas too closed in. Too many female Duprees and no hetero, nor gay, male Duprees is also a problem.   I also agree with @DemetriKanethat the male characters are one note, and not very layered/interesting... outside of Bill, that is. To me, I would have focused on either Nicole's family and dynamics or Dani's family and dynamics instead of trying to introduce/develop both families at the same time.  Nicole's family is more developed and interesting with loads of storyline possiblities then Dani's family right now. And because MVJ and co decided to feature so many Duprees... we're less likely to be free of any outside characters like Ashley/Derek since they're the non-Dupree part of the canvas.

    • I can not see Kat as a police officer and do not want that for her. Thats not her passion nor does she care about that stuff. The stuff with Eva and Leslie is specific to her life and wanting to protect her family. Her "detective" skills have more to do with her business background, which makes her very analytical and pay close attention to details. If this show had a corporation, she'd make a shrewed businesswoman and CEO I definitely dont want to see her sleep with her cousin's husband. That would be too much of a Hayley redux which ironically you dont want with the Sharon/Hayley theory
    • I would make Jan, Ashley's mom, Anita and Vernon's maid. It would lock in to why Leslie would choose to befriend both her and Mona. It also gives Ashley a connection to the Duprees and explains how she befriended Naomi. I would have had Derek start the show as a cop to explain his connection to Jacob. Kat needs to realize that she is MADE to be a detective. Have her go through police training, making the appropriate comments about the uniform along the way. Have her prove she is so much more than a rich princess, even to herself. Then, when Jacob's partner is proven to be dirty, Kat is assigned as Jacob's rookie trainee. At the same time, Naomi does finally get a case she can follow through on. Her client is a person that Jacob arrested. This puts them at odds because Jacob knows this person did it, as does Kat, but Naomi only sees the extenuating circumstances and believes he deserves a lighter sentence and a second chance. THAT is when Jacob will turn to Kat in frustration and she will lose her virginity to him.
    • This opened my eyes and appeals to my logic. But, don't you also think that the fact that they are so ill-suited means that, by soap-opera-laws, they aren't a long term item?  I like how Belle is written now, so I appreciate the fact that she is in this story.  But, I don't believe anything will become of it, and I think EJ is going to mess it up very soon.  Which explains why I don't get too worked up over it. I'm also suspending my outrage until I see how EJ treats Belle during her mourning.  If he cheats with Cat, then we'll know that he was never meant to be happy.
