But what is the purpose of the return? Bobbie is related to quite a few characters, yet she is in none of those "stories". Bringing vets back for the sake of saying "we brought vets back" is worth less than a bag of $.25 chips. We should be grateful because Guza didn't give us vets? Well, if he had done this type of crap, keep the vets!

As for Lucy, I don't give 2 sh!ts about that silly bitch, never have never will!

When I her budget budget budget with GH, I'm left scratching my head. Really, I am.

The way they get away with it, I think, has to do with at least half the veteran or B-cast being on recurring. And of course, the ever-increasing gap in story cycles to make sure people don't go over minimums.

They would cycle story like this at OLTL, and they would stockpile veteran guarantee episodes to see to it that Erika Slezak, Hillary B. Smith, etc. got played up full force during sweeps. But at OLTL there was rarely this much downtime for any of them, the balance was usually much healthier. They would play them less for a few weeks or months, then when the right period hit they would ramp it up.

Oh, I completely agree. 40 ish regularly appearing characters, plus the other people they have to service when needed (Diane, Max etc.) is simply too many. I think Ron was hinting that he was hitting his limit as well without outright saying it.

I think we'll see some exits at sweeps time. No doubt Ava isn't long for this world, Sabrina could go at any time, Felix could get written out with Lucas whenever Ryan leaves, plus the actress who plays Britt's original contract is up in November (though I would be shocked if they didn't re-sign her). I just think there are possibilities for exits, we just have to be patient for some of the arcs to play out. Hopefully if characters exit (I don't even care who at this point), we will feel like we can breathe.

I will say this, we were supposed to have about four more new characters regularly appearing at this point but most of it has been delayed or scrapped (honestly not sure which). Just picture how crowded that would've felt!

Is it safe to assume Serena is around the corner? The name dropping of her has become obvious. I can't imagine I'm going to like how she's written. Just a strong hunch for some reason.

I understand we don't know all that they go through (I would like to know, hence why I asked the process of writing, to scheduling, etc.) but UK soaps at 25 minutes can better balance 40-50 characters (yes, budgets are probably higher, etc.). It doesn't seem like it'd be THAT hard to better balance things out. We just shouldn't see people only because their storyline is needing to be played.

Lord, Jonny, PLEASE stop.

Why in the hell should I just sit here and accept Jackie working when I don't even recognize Bobbie and she can't even share more than one second with her son but Julian can get an entire episode talking to someone he didn't even know a year ago about Lucas's love life?

That begs the question should the uS soaps adopt the UK model. If its to save money Roll the shows back to 30 min and take hiatuses like they do. Neighbors airs til Jan then returns in March

Or maybe the model Port Charles had during its last three years

It's nice to know we weren't completely bamboozled about those four (or five) new hires. There was too much detailed info on them floating around for months and months, dating back to midway through last year on some.

And I'm sorry, but Ron will be dragged out feet-first before he lets them write Sabrina out. Certainly not this year.

And honestly, look, it's been a long year. Over a year, since this show got really messy for those of us who are more charitable like myself. I can only have so much patience for so many arcs to play out when they finally play out some arcs (like Dante, Lulu, Maxie, Georgie, Britt and Ben/Rocco) and then the arc that replaces it is even worse and even more dragged out. I waited for a lot of lousy stories on this show to end over the last twelve months. Some have ended, some have not, but almost all of them since about May of 2013 have been piss-poor.

Do you know why they had to overhaul it? And why there seems to be so much planned story that just falls by the wayside under Ron? (Was this the case on OLTL? I don't remember.) I could understand it if recurring actors aren't available in the time frame the show wants them -- but I somehow doubt Lynn, Kin and Jackie have other acting commitments to attend to.

I don't remember OLTL outright scrapping or really pushing back major story the way GH has this year as well as last summer, with Laura, Lucy and the Deception stuff back then. They did it sometimes, but it was almost never stuff this big that was cast and scheduled and on the tip of everyone's tongues.

I can't speak for alexisfan but what I knew (or rather, heard) of what was planned involved Lucy, Kevin, Scott, their daughters and a sexual harassment or battery allegation by one of the girls. That was months ago so it may be bullshit.

This begins back in 2013 when GH was planning the deception rebirth with Lucy , Laura and Milo as their Model. But supposedly they couldnt afford to build a new set. Ha Ha why not redress an old set. Then Genie left because she wanted more than recyrring. Im not sure how this affects Bobbie/Lucy/Scott since it seems like RC doesnt know what he is doing

. This show is so stupid. Sonny killed an FBI agent less than a year ago by shooting him at point blank range. But the new short bald man is much much worse cause he was a bad guy in some part of Africa and managed to not kill Lucky, Isaiah, Jason, or Anna. This show is crippled by the mob all these years after Guza has been long gone.
    • With all the changes Sunny was one of the longest running characters by that time.  She had never been married and had heaps of story potential. I can see America getting with SFT -you know 'the circus soap'. Smart move because circuses were all the rage with the kids in the 80's. Maybe Stu and Jo could have bought the circus.
    • It is actually pathetic, that Victor’s 50 year old children are still written as scared of this man that has to sit in every scene. I get it, EB has been on the show for almost 50 years, but I don’t care. He’s a man in his 80’s and should not be the damn lead and driving force because you don’t want to upset Eric Braeden ‘s fragile ego that only exists because the writers have cowtowed to this man for so long.
    • PREACH Victor being written as he was 20 years ago to support EB's ego or some misguided belief that what worked decades ago is still relevant is destroying the show. Victor comes off as a rambling old fool holding on to vendettas and a desperate need for perceived power. His children still cow-towing to him makes them look equally foolish. If the writing portrayed Victor as  more of an irritant to them then maybe it would work.
    • They desperately need another meeting spot that isn’t Orphy Genes or the Country club. Y&R is awful now but there’s at least GCAC, Crimson Lights, Society, and the Jazz room at GCAC to meet at. 4 places is definitely better than 2 and I can’t imagine these rich folks literally only eat at their damn country club.
    • I support all of this. 80 year old Victor reading lines off the table or teleprompter until it’s time to yell at someone and still being the main man driving story on the show is absolutely ridiculous to me and one of the biggest issues with the show. I respect Braeden for wanting to keep working in his old age is great and all, but WHY IS HE THE LEAD?
    • I believe they said 27 sets. We have not seen that many maybe around 20. Perhaps they meant they have space for that number. I would like to see another meeting place -maybe a restaurant that could fit in b/w Orphy's and the Country Club. Casual but classy. Jacob/Naomi need a living room and it would be good if Vern/Anita had a smaller study/library so they're not always in the same room. I guess budget plays a part. For example, maybe the plan is for Jacob/Naomi to get a home down the track when they become more prominent. I really hope that outdoor sets come into use. A terrace at the Country Club or a few shopfronts-a park maybe. Speculation re June. I would go with a Hayley connection as she needs something else to do apart from whining to Bill. June could  provide some conflict cos I don't see Bill being that interested in having her around. He could try to buy her off, upsetting Hayley or she could overhear/uncover some dirt on Bill so he's forced to keep her around. The parents of Tyrell/Samantha can be held for down the track along with the mystery of Andre's parents. The advantage of a new show is that there is so much from character's pasts that can be used. An ex for Vernon or Anita and various relatives to come out of the woodwork.
    • Oh god I haven’t gotten to that episode yet, you have to be [!@#$%^&*].ing kidding me. I will say to my surprise, the Danny actor no longer bothers me. He has actually improved quite a bit.
    • I hear what you are saying, but I feel there is definitely an opportunity for improvement. If the set problem is to remain, then the whole focus has to change. Business has to take a back seat if there are no sets available to support story. As I have said before return to Jabot and have a number of characters working and interacting there. They seem super reluctant to do it but Victor needs to be a more supporting character.  Eric Braeden seems determined to carry on and that is of course admirable, but keeping Victor as this dominating force has been detrimental. Have a sweet reunion of Sharon and Nick and marry them off for good. Bring on Faith and I'd even have Adamson back as Noah at this point to support Nick/Sharon in a parenting role. They really need to bite the bullet and drop one of the following -Billy, Chelsea, Phyllis or make them recurring like Abby/Ashley with appearances or short term stories when appropriate. Free up some space for new or returning characters- Noah, Allie, Fen, Moses, even a recast Dylan.
    • Today was really boring. I get we needed to have Martin accepting Eva but man I needed some Leslie today. Anita being hung up on was intriguing though.
