Alright, Days!

The climax of the Salem Slasher really helped.

Poor AW though. Not even the 20th anniversary and Jacqueline Courtney’s return helped much

When did both events happen?

The return of Jacqueline Courtney to AW happened on the 20th Anniversary episode on May 4, 1984.

The buildup to Guiding Light beating GH for 3 weeks in a row.

OLTL sinking quickly with Jean Arley as a visionless EP.

So what's the story surrounding this. I've seen it mentioned on this forum a few times that GL supposedly ranked #1 a few weeks in the summer of 1984, but others have pointed out that while GL had surpassed GH, it was not in fact #1. Where did the misinformation originate? Did the message get twisted along the way? I can see how it would be easy to assume that GL was #1 if it beat out GH considering GH was pretty much a powerhouse in the 80s. Is it possible that GL did reach the top?

Thank you. I feel like I recall seeing this now but didn't make the connection.

For Days, it started during the week of the 30th, and ended the following week when Days hit #3 in the ratings

Here's the episode

The show was so good at that time...look at all the characters interacting...whomever screwed everything up in the Fall of 85 should have been fired.

Giving Jeff Ryder more of a say in the direction of stories, was a big mistake. If they couldn't find anyone to share the HW duties with Pam Long, they should've let her be solo IMO.

The Fall of GH is so sad…

The one-two punch of Luke & Laura's departure, and then Denise Alexander leaving in March really did a number on GH. Almost immediately after Lesley's "death", the show dips below 10.0 and it's all downhill from there.

They really lost out letting DA leave as Lesley, this was over money, right? But wasn’t Lesley kind of on the sidelines for almost three years at this point?

DAYS has totally rebounded, but I think they had opportunity still in keeping Doug and Julie, and imagine if they could have got DA back as Susan fresh off her GH gig.

OLTL completely dipped, I think Paul Rauch starts as EP in June. I’m not sure anything was even happening story wise outside of who Bo or Asa was sleeping with at this time.

AMC still holding in but the rest of ABC just losing it, insane to see after following the rise.

It’s a shame AW wasted Jackie Courtney’s return, she could have done for that show was DA had the potential to do for DAYS, at least if it was written well.

Imagine getting Susan back to town with a teenage Anne as a spoiler for Bo & Hope? I could see it working just as well as Megan, but a bit deeper considering the generational history there.
