GL got no holiday bump and was stuck at 6.4 rating. AW was nipping at its heels while SB was close to overtaking Capitol.

What was going on with AMC at this point and why were they starting to tumble? Assuming the increased competition in some markets from a now very strong Y&R couldn't have helped.

I was just about to chime in, these weekly numbers show me that All My Children was not always a solid No. 3 during this time period as I had long thought.

Ooh look at Y&R at 9's, ATWT & DAYS in the 8's, and AW in the 6's...  Meanwhile, Capitol down in the 4's definitely earns a cancellation for a CBS soap...

Lol it’s like a good chunk of CBS viewers changed the channel of 30

mins!

SB at 5.2! I wonder what their highest rating was throughout their run. I still wonder how they might have done with DOOL as their lead-in instead of AW (as much as I also loved AW).

AMC did start to fade after Jacqueline Babbin had departed as EP.  IIRC, by the time Agnes Nixon had returned as HW in '90, the show had slipped as far as sixth in the ratings.

You’ll see. And did SB ever beat AW in the ratings?

I'm interested in seeing ATWT ratings during the summer of 87 when Lily paternity was revealed and Craig(Scott Bryce) departure.

I never realised GH and Y&R had such a battle for #1 during 1986! That would have been exciting to watch unfold at the time!

3/20 was CAPITOL's final week; yet, the show was still doing better than AW, SB, LOVING and RH.  I guess CBS still came out okay in the end.  Imagine, though, if they had been more patient.  At the very least, they could have insisted that John Conboy fire James Lipton and hire a more competent HW.

ATWT was on fire....late January had the Sabrina story with Bob and Kim looking for their long lost daughter...a story I didn't care for but apparently the viewers did.

ATWT had a 1.0 gain too. Fans were loving Marland's stories. Hal had just hooked up with Barbara while James looked on and Margo found out....still had the Margo vs Barbara stuff....Lucinda and Craig....I think they had slept together...not sure.....

GL was a hot mess in 7th most of early 2017. The show at the time had lost that luster it once had IMO. I remember them feature way too many newbies and younger characters. March 13th has them 1.4 away from ATWT although it followed Capitol which was only .5 away from GL who had a 6.0 on March 20th....

Wasn't Capitol brought in to attract a younger audience? I don't recall exactly why it was canceled....if it was because of low ratings....being at #8 like forever or because it didn't garner those younger viewers they wanted. I just know the drop off in ratings after ATWT was big. It didn't retain ATWT audience.  I personally hated the show and thought they shouldve stuck with SFT.

Just read that Sheri Anderson was writing GL at the time.

The week of the 13th they were promoting Rusty and Mindy...

I've seen Jean Nate commercials that weren't as cheesy.
