@Soapsuds Remember too that from September 1985 until B&B premiered the first half of As the World Turns was head-to-head w/ second half of All My Children and supercouple Days.

All My Children weakens in 1986 and Y&R overtakes them for 2nd.

Days I think will continue to grow. 1986 had some big cast arrivals: Christie Clark, Judi Evans, Mary Beth Evans, Drake Hogestyn, Wally Kurth.

As for Guiding Light, Pamela Long departs as HW and there's numerous changes to the writing team, thus the drop. I don't believe GL was in cancel territory in 1986 though.

I just found out that Wendy Fishburn was a Producer at Pure Soap on E where Alina Sivorinevsky Wickham was a Writer & in 1994 she filled Wendy in on 50 years of history of GL because she was headed to NYC to work on ATWT & GL. I believe it was 1998 when Dolly the clone died.

1986 we'll also see Capitol losing clearance and the end of Search for Tomorrow.

We are some 7 months away from Oprah going national. I think we'll see clearances dropping on the lower rated soaps during the fall.

Gail Kobe/Pamela Long era ends January 1986 and there's turnover in the EP/HW ranks for the rest of the decade.

EP: Joe Willmore January 1986-June 1989. Robert Calhoun June 1989-July 1991.

HW: Jeff Ryder January 1986. Jeff Ryder/Mary Ryan Munisteri February-September 1986. Mary Ryan Munisteri/Ellen Barrett September 1986. Joseph Manetta October 1986. Joseph Manetta/Sheri Anderson November 1986-July 1987. Pamela Long July 1987-December 1990.

Also writer's strike March-August 1988.

Somehow GL managed to have enough ratings from 1986-1989 to avoid cancel territory.

January 31, 1986 Y&R Nikki tells Victoria the wicked witch bedtime story. MTS 40th anniversary she commented on that scene saying it was worse than she remembered it being and told all mothers out there not to do this.

February 18, 1986 Y&R Nikki summons Ashley to the ranch and confronts Ashley about Ashley's involvement with Victor. A pivotal scene in their rivalry.

    • Is the set for Lulu's new house an updated version of the set used for the childhood home of Luke, Bobbie and Pat Spencer?
    • I feel like AMC would be the easiest of their soaps to revive but a reboot seems cursed at this point. I wish we had more insight on what was pitched for the primetime reboot as well as these movies. That would give us a better idea of why it keeps getting shot down.
    • Mansion of the Damned sure is a "talkative" horror movie.  In the past when I've watched those episodes, I was paying attention to The Edge of Night characters and not really zeroing in on the rehearsals/blocking/filming of the actual movie.  This time I've been following the plot of Mansion of the Damned pretty closely, and all I can say is Hester Atherton and Nicholas Harriman are about the most chit-chatty Witch and Devil I've ever heard in my life!
    • Ashley and Derek have been so isolated that I need the show to develop something, anything to justify their presence. It's not that I think Joey being her father will be the greatest story ever told but at least it would be something and connect her to more characters. I just need the show to move forward with them. Out of all the characters, these are the only two with no storyline/development. We have recurring characters who are better used with less screentime. If the show is going to keep them on contract they need to do something with them.
    • I never thought I'd say it, but SC is B&B's best male actor - by far. SK is next. Has there ever been a US soap that has so much female talent surrounding by Himbos? KKL, JMW, HT, KB, AN, RB could be/have been leading ladies on any other soap. Even the secondary females are the ones who carry their scenes. It's been rare periods when B&B actually had a few solid male cast members. JMW really did a great job in the scenes with AN. Considering everything we've witnessed the past couple of years with Steffy/Hope, I thought reveal may ring hollow. JMW proved me wrong. No doubt this is Emmy material.
    • You won't even accept a minute cameo from Ms Marcil herself so she can collect her cheque?
    • Which has also slowed down from 100 pages a day, but I digress.

Yeah. When even I am getting annoyed with it (and still need to catch up on DAYS new team...two weeks behind now grrr) enough to take a break...and B&B holds my interest more for a show where nothing is going on...it's a BAD sign.   Seriously thinking about that break until

Then we go from there. I just can't believe JG just went and lost all the momentum that was built up over the last month. And during May Sweeps, too? No, ma'am.
    • Works for me!!! Just the back of some brunettes head and a hug lol on the Island And also, I like how it's brand new info Mo was good at his job in the 90's.  That's pretty much the entire reason he's still on the show.
    • I recently edited an older episode to do a Denise Alexander edit but Mo was in scenes & I had forgotten that back then he was actually good at his job.  The contrast with today is well alarming.
