Dallas isn't a remake. Its a continuation of the original series

The Office

Step by Step. Not sure if that would exactly count but it was based heavily on the Brady Bunch but threw in its own original spin so it wasn't an exact replica

Dallas isn't a remake.

I feel like many aren't successful.

Star Trek TNG isn't a remake, either. I feel like the terminology has really gotten interchangeable and confusing. To me, a remake is when you cast new actors/actresses to play the old characters. A revival/sequel/continuation is when you gather the old cast together and/or create new characters who exist in the old show's universe/setting.

I thought the 90s remake of Land of the Lost worked, but then again, I was only a kid at the time.

Dark Shadows 1991 was pretty good, but I think it got sort of lost in the crowd and ratings collapsed.

Was V marginally successful? I never saw it.

V was popular at first and quickly crashed.

I'm sure someone would say that ponderous, pretentious BSG reboot with the bad lighting.

It lasted longer than the original -- and that's about all I can say about that, lol.

Would "Dragnet 1967" with Jack Webb and Harry Morgan count as a remake?

Oh, shush... That's exactly what I was going to say.

I don't know what your beef with the show is, but I do not see ANY of the stuff you're talking about. It's an excellently written space opera that actually dares to be more than spectacle. If that's ponderous and pretentious, OK. lol

Another candidate: "Nikita," which appears to be remake of "La Femme Nikita."

My first thought was 90210, but then I remembered that it's also a continuation.

Ugly Betty was technically a remake of a telenovella, as was Desperate Housewives. If that counts.

"The Upper Hand" is the first that comes to mind for me. It was a British remake of "Who's the Boss?", and since it ran from 1990 to 1996 you'd have to say that it worked.

All in the Family was the first that came to mind as it was a remake of a British series.

In that case, I nominate "Three's Company," which was an American version of UK's "Man About the House."
