November 5-9, 2012: Good Week For Soaps

Color me cynical. A month of decent gains due primarily to stunt casting doesn't instill confidence. This wet blanket is curious about where all this lands in January and February but congratulations on a few stellar weeks. The current story development holds little promise.

You sound like you don't even watch........

That may have been true a year ago, but with these #'s GH is in the top 2 in daytime (not just soaps) in the key demos. In fact, GH is now topping OLTL's ratings from the year ago (and most of 2011). Nothing cheaper will be able to come in and do these #'s unless it's some weird far out there original idea (something very rare). ABC has tried and failed to replace OLTL at 2:00 PM. GH not only beat the failures, it's beating OLTL too.

Plus oneing this lol

After the AMC/OLTL debacle I don't trust ABC at all. It is better to just wait and see.

You mean you're going to trust the business realities you've seen play out over the last couple of years instead of using the last couple of weeks as an excuse to engage in irrational exuberance? Well then, you aren't a true soap fan.

The GH ratings are showing that the GH audience wants to see GH and not OLTL or The Todd Manning Hour. When Todd is dominating the screen and OLTL was the focus, the ratings didn't do well. Fitting the OLTL characters onto GH (2 of them can still GTFO) should have happened when FRon took over. Instead they tried to re-work GH to fit OLTL, and that failed. Glad they realized it and can focus on GH. I still believe Ron to be inept because even though he's bringing back the right people, it's not flowing very well, IMHO.

Prior to GH's timeslot move they aired at a time when alot of people in my town and the surrounding towns were out for the day at school. My highschool school would end at 2:15. That was enough time for me to watch the second half of Passions, ATWT, or OLTL and the entire epi of GH. And Passions always had the young people watching. School never got in the way of that and that was prior to DVR. And at some schools seniors get to leave earlier than rest of the school. My cousin finishes her school day by 1pm.

My senior year of highschool, I was out by 12:40 and was home by 1pm to watch DAYS live. And I'm Central Time Zone. If I were on the east coast, I could've seen AMC/B&B/Y&R.

Congrats to GH! I'm TiVoing it and watching about half the storylines, something I've NEVER done in my 18 years of watching soaps. I guess their plan to lure OLTL fans over has done the trick on me! ;)

Ok rhino hide then don't watch the show then. U can choose to turn it off if it has little promise while I relish in the amazing brilliance of cartinis old school gh.

rhino basically said she (?) didn't think good ratings would last. That isn't a horrible remark. People spent all of 2011 acting like OLTL's ratings were a sign from above, yet as the months went on, they steadily declined. It just happens.

Glad GH crossed 3 million on Wednesday, now hopefully they can do it more consistently.

All of the soaps hit highs on Wednesday. I wonder why. The politico in me says it's election related but I can't see how.

I was wondering why they were so high on Wednesday too. I believe that was the day it snowed on the East Coast.

This reminds me of a lady on my mom's Facebook who said she was taking a personal day at work because she was mourning the loss of America.
