All shitty actors who should be banned in Daytime

Denise Vasi just landed a lead role on a prime time cable drama, SINGLE LADIES. So prime time rewards shitty actors too.

Yeah she got that role for being pretty but none of the ladies on that show can act.

Drake Hogestyn is a bad actor, but he is John Black. Same with Ron Moss, he is Ridge Forrester. Sometimes an actor so embodies a part, that their acting abilities or lack thereof don't really matter all that much. You'll roll your eyes and laugh during some of their scenes, but you can't imagine anyone else playing those roles.

In their prime, Drake and Ronn both had effortless chemistry with a variety of leading ladies. That's what made them more popular with viewers. It's also something which you don't see on a lot of soaps now. Instead you have "studs" like Chompers who have anti-chemistry with all they go near.

Bad acting and Daytime shouldn't go together in this day and age anymore though. Just like I don't like the words "It's a soap" being used as an excuse for bad acting, writing, overuse of cliches. Because I've seen soaps with great acting, granted they were foriegn soaps but still.

In this day and age, daytime is a dead genre, so it doesnt really matter. They are all just waiting for their cancellation notice

Soaps for a while now don't allow for rehearsal time, the direction in most cases is poor, the shooting schedules are such that performances are rushed through, they don't do retakes, the scripts are lousy, and actors have to learn a monumental amount of dialogue each day Why many credit some like they are Meryl Streep amazes me and even Meryl had some stinkers in her career. What passes for good acting today are mostly Tic laden screechy performances which no offense, you can see on a reality show, most of which are more entertaining than today's soaps.

Yep. I rolled my eyes when Walt Willey gave an interview at AMC's end talking about reliable soap actors were because of their ability to memorize dialogue quickly and turn out performances every day. Yeah, they do memorize a lot and perform a lot, but they don't have any time to hone their craft, to refine each line of dialogue and really focus on doing the best work possible. I think there are a handful of really talented long-term actors in daytime - David Canary, Erica Sleazak, Debbie Morgan, and Darnell Williams among them - but most are just "okay."

Who is Chompers?

You're right about Drake. He is had chemistry with all of his leading ladies, Dee, Genie, Staci, Eileen, that woman who played the attorney, even in my opinion, Kristian Alfonso.

Lol

Billy Miller who has only had chemistry with Sharon Case and I credit her for that not him.

I think there is time to reherse but it has to be outside the studio. I know a lot of shows give actors all their scripts for the week ahead at the same time. Many actors have said this & u must practice on your own and get to gether with castmates on your own time. Being on set is just shooting the scenes and most want just one take. Its a budget thing.

It just aggravates me how someone with a sense of humor and quirky disposition could be so off-putting, but that's exactly who and what Billy Miller is.

I watched Vertigo the other day. It's one of my favorite Hitchcock films, but I finally realized it's more the camera work than anything that appeals to me. Kim Novak was a beautiful woman but an atrocious actress, and on today's soaps would be considered fat. And Jimmy Stewart wasn't very good in that film either. The dialogue was ridiculous and if they wrote something like that for GH today they would be laughed out of the studio.

You're killing me here. I love that movie so much mellow.png .

Granted, I haven't watched it in awhile, so I may agree with you if I watched it again and paid closer attention to the dialogue.

And it would be a shame if KN were considered fat today--I would KILL for a suit like the one she wore in that movie!

I've always loved it. And North by Northwest. But think about it. Talk about contrived plot points. The lead male investigates this worman for her husband, and falls in love with her in almost a matter of days to the point he obsesses over her after he believes she died. Reilly was more reality based. LOL. And yes, I think if you watched it in the frame of mind I was in (picking GH apart) you would realize that some of our favorite old movies that are considered classics are as flawed as GH. We're just more tolerant.

Farah Fath.

I love your Avi Eric. What an adorable pic. I saw him awhile back on an old Cold Case episode. Wonder where he is and what he's up to.

If I started a list I would never stop. Basically every actor fawned over by soap fans and magazines is horrendous. I think that there are a few decent actors, but over time they develop horrible habits and get lazy. Susan Flannery and Peter Bergman are two that I still enjoy a lot. Yet there are a few soap actors over the years that I believed to be very good and that they would make it beyond the soaps. Anne Heche (Vicky, Another World) and William Fitchner (Josh, As the World Turns) are the main ones that come to mind. I followed their post-soap careers and although they never became as big as I thought they should, they have done okay. Zach Roerig (Casey, As the World Turns) never got any credit for his work because people were fawning over the mediocre Jennifer Landon, but I thought that he had potential and something about him reminded me of James Dean. Roerig is now on The Vampire DIaries where he is wasting his talent, but hopefully he will move on to better things.
