GH: Discussion for the Month of March

I don't know about fire, I always felt that Monaco played Sam more as a stressed good girl more then an outright bitch. She reminds me of a more flawed version of Courtney who is constantly bashed for their sacred three. But that being said I don't really see the Sam character as someone who is consistently devious or mean spirited. She's just heavily Jason centric to the point of desperation. They will change her character based on what they see fit for his character. They made her an evil bitch of the west only to prop up another failed attempt at Laison and since that event she has more or less been the same character she always has been - Jason's action girlfriend. It's one dimensional but that is her purpose she supports him no matter what.

That being said there is a sort of sensual intimacy with her and ME that I've never seen her have with anyone else on this show. GV and KeMo spilled sex all over the screen but it always felt more primal then anything else. Once they actually became a full relationship they seemed to lose steam. KeMo's scenes with ME seemed more romantic and emotionally intimate rather then sexy persay, it seemed to me she was playing a variant of Livvie when she was at her more vulnerable states. Skipping to the bottom line: yes there was more of a connection between her and ME then I ever saw between her and Burton (or anyone with Burton in the last decade to be honest).

KeMo is too good for Burton and the entire Jarson (Jason/Carly/Sonny) clan.

There short scenes were probably one of the best things I've seen on PC the past two weeks.

I'll fully admit that I'm not a fan of Sam (she bores me to tears), but loved the hell out of Livvie. Frankly, this was the only reason why I was interested in ME coming over to GH - so that he can motivate to KM can sparkle the way that she wasn't allowed to yet wasn't able to for the longest time. If Ron actually demolishes the disease that is Jason/Sam and puts Sam in McBain's orbit to provide her with the sizzle that she's been starving for, then I will certainly make an about face on both characters and ship the hell out of them. (Caleb & Livvie fangirl for life here!)

I can't say that I was a fan of Larry (as I call GV Lucky), so I was never able to get on the Larry/Sam bandwagon. However, they were a walk in the park compared to the vortex of suck that is Jason/Sam. Seeing that What If episode confirmed to me that KM ain't the one with the problem because Jason/SB just plain sucks. Having Sam realize what you've said (that she's too good for the roided borg and deserves better to put up with his two asslickers) onscreen and move on to greener pastures (and yes, I consider McBain greener pastures because he'd at least give Sam something to work with other than a robotic roll in the sack on occasion) would do wonders in having me care about her character.

Because I'm that much of a slave to chemistry.

They paired Kelly Monaco with Ingo Rademacher and Maurice Benard before they put her with Steve Burton. She did not exactly light up the skies with any of the three actors. Greg Vaughn was her best pairing; it's too bad GH didn't go with them. The story at the time was that Frons wanted Monaco paired with a top tier actor.

I liked Caleb and Livvie, but that was mostly about Caleb. The dual personality story was a failure on Kelly Monaco's part.

I'll definitely disagree. Kelly had chemistry with pretty much any male actor they paired her with on PC.

As to her time on GH there were viewers who enjoyed her with Ingo even with that silly little cardcaptors story they had them in. I would say the biggest problem with the Sam character is that she has just been misappropriated. She spent most of her time tied to the same tired characters. She was a much better character when she was around the Cassadines and when she was in the Spencer sphere. Carson/Jason is a noose around any characters neck.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure what any of these "returns" have been for. They stories are still revolving around the same people. Such obvious points of connection have been missed (ie. Robert and Holly staying one more week for Robin's funeral). There isn't any real flow. JaSam are still getting more time than anyone else - at least that's what it seems the occasional times I tune in now.

GH does have a rich history, but the mining of that history is being botched. Not that I like Monica, but given Anna and Monica have a real past and shared loss, AND that Robin died helping Jason, that is the natural place of comfort. Luke was Robert's friend, and was only Anna's drinking buddy. The reference to the swing was the only thing they actually shared, and that was when Anna was having an uncharacteristically challenging time accepting that she was to become a grandmother. Outside of people in common, Luke and Anna don't have a connection. And then the references to Tracy and Duke today? Really? Anna was there when Tracy found out that Paul was using her, making Anna one of the few characters who can remember how deeply feeling Tracy really is. And the slight about what Anna was thinking when she married Duke? A mob boss? I actually felt bad for fans of that couple - Duke was out of the mob and trying to destroy it, and their relationship was beautiful.

I hate it when these writers get caught up in their own brilliance and "respect history". They usually don't and just think they can outsmart the viewers.

Great post, Remos. As an OldGHFan, I am hating Ron's GH. He says he knows GH history but it is clear he does not. All the vets are being brought back to rehabilitate Luke. Supercouples Robert & Holly, Duke & Anna and Robert & Anna all have been slammed to give "old friends" Luke and Anna a storyline. It makes me sad. I can no longer watch. sad.png

Oops. I forgot. Ron does know GH history. He's heard of the Floating Rib. RME.

RC is only bringing in the vets to distract the viewers from the OLTL presence. He knows nothing about the vets' history, and has thus far written them poorly. Not sure why Tristan Rogers didn't bring a gun to set on his last day and shoot the place up! Robert's time and exit was what bad horror movies are made of. He damn near skipped out of town and sent a note? That was beyond heinous!

Never thought I'd wish Wolf back or even Guza, but I do. Can't stand Cartini's GH or should I say, One Life To Live In General Hospital?

ANDREA

It's insulting, if the situation was reversed, OLTL's viewers wouldn't like it anymore. Now every character on GH will probably be propped

by a OLTL'er. This is where I want Guza back, he'd kill them all.biggrin.png

How would you know what OLTL fans would like? If the story was good and they were utilized well I wouldn't mind. This is where RC failed.

You mean, you didn't believe that was a complete and totally organic use of GH history without a hint of pandering at all?

I agree Ron is acting like Luke & Anna are besties for years & years I think that Luke met Anna around 2006. These are drive by guest appearances in my opinion. But shouldn't writers fill in the blanks? I think there were GH writers still on the canvas but even GH writers have butchered GH history. They have made many errors throughout the years re: old school GH. The vets are just drive by guest appearances Holly (& Robert of course) was the worse she just sort of stood there....I'l never forgive what Ron dId to Robert Scorpio it was horrible. Other than Tristan making bank I could have done without his return... they could say his cancer kicked in again & he couldn't make it he was in the hospital but to tie him to Ethan's exit storyline (& crap on Robins' in the process) & worse of it he was giddy about ditching Robin to chase after Ethan?

Finally posting privledges. I've been lurking this baord forever and finally decided to sign up. You guys make the best posts about GH. No bias and fangurlism and I've enjoyed many a post over the years

Welcome!

I agree; I too lurked a very long time before joining. I just like the fairness of the posts based on what is on the screen & the knowledge of history esp on soaps like days of our lives where I have a serious weakness because I don't know the history so it makes it much easier watching the show...also I can ask questions when I'm confused.

Thank you! I've just noticed people on here seem to be more reasonable, don't condemn you for not liking their favs and don't praise so and so actor as the best in the world. very refreshing for a soap board especially when discussing gh because ove rthe past few years its seemed as if some fans are more obsessed with the actor than actually caring about the character(well at least on the boards i've been on)

First, I totally agree about Holly. She stood in one spot in the same room for, like, 3 episodes. Also, Robert was beyond thrilled to go after Ethan and leave Anna holding the bag. It was as if he and Ethan high fived each other on the way out of town, with Robert saying "Whew! Dodged that bullet! The 'Fake Suicide Attempt' gets me out of pesky funerals every time!"

Can someone explain the Floating Rib thing? I don't really even get the point of it. Its not like any of these characters have any particular attachment to it. I remember it as the place Monica, Edward, Rick. Jeff, Lesley Alan used to go along with Gail and Lee. In fact didn't Alan propose to Monica there. It just seems like a very random thing. I mean Luke could have renamed it Lucky's or something that might resonate more.

It's a random thing to make it seem like RC knows history

Someone on SOC suggested it should have been called "Robin's Nest" since Robin went on her first date with Stone there, she went there with Jason a lot, she sang there with Patrick, and went there to talk to Coleman from time to time.

That would have been nice.
