Unpopular Opinions: 2012 Edition

I'll go first:

B&B

- While not perfect, the show is currently in the best shape it's been in since 2003.

Y&R

- Genie Francis is terrific as Genevieve Atkinson. I know she wasn't well liked in her first few months on her show, but I'm currently watching June 2011 episodes and I LOVE her campy take on the character, despite the overall wretchedness of the storyline. Although I never saw Francis on GH, so I don't have that to compare it to. I'd love to see her on B&B in a Sally Spectra/Jackie Marone type role.

- Phyllis is one of very few characters to actually flourish under MAB (save for the Lucy custody madness). And of course, I still consider La Stafford to be the best actress in daytime.

- Maura West was AT LEAST as miscast as Diane as Shari Shattuck was as Ashley.

I think it is frustrating when people create couple nicknames the second two characters interact on screen and internet communities are created. I actually liked the idea of Ethina and felt since Kristina had feelings for him it wasn't too unreasonable of an idea.

There are some couples I secret "ship" in a OMG that would be cool, but I don't go around looking for people to create a groundswell of support. I tend to go for cannon pairings, for whatever reason and enjoy looking for random scenes from years earlier with those characters and see if I can see a connection.

It was unreasonable when they started hardcore campaigning and calling Maya a bedwarmer and joking about sending suicide threats to the studio if they don't get therr pairing.

Seriously they did that, frequentsoapfan. Yikes that is too far, when I said unreasonable I meant the idea of the pairing wasn't out of left field, not the actions of the viewers who wanted that pairing.

I think part of the appeal of Frankie/Madison was the fact that Frankie/CSJ was being terribly wasted by being shackled to Randi/DV. He simply played better with Madison/SG on just about every level than he did with that pretty piece of cardboard.

I'll give you CSJ being wasted on DV, but I still don't think that there was anything more there than great friendship chemistry between Frankie and Madison.

Yes they did and that was just over the pairing when Lexi got fired they threatened to send death threats so she would be hired again. And alot of them had multiple accounts on the same message boards so they could spam the boards and prove how well like their couple was.

I wanted Madison and Frankie and it wasnt bc I was looking at them for their potential romance. From a story standpoint, it would have been better had he been her baby's father. Frankie was doing nothing but being boring on the backburner with Randi. A ONS with Madison could have been the catalyst to actually give that pairing something to do. Feisty Randi was so bitch for no reason but that would have given her a bit more validity. Madison was treated like garbage by Ryan as he dumped her aside for Greenlee. Frankie had a few scenes defending Madison but they could have built it up more with him taking Scott's place as her rock, torn between the fact that she might be having his kid and his wife who may not be able to have one. Ryan would still be jealous like he was as Frankie started to fall for Madison and you have the makings for a decent quad (or is that pentagon?). Thats where my head was going with it when I wanted Madison and Frankie to have produced that child. There was just so much more that could have been done rather then what we actually got

Oh, I'll definitely agree about Madison being thrown under the bus for Ryan/Greenlee and Frankie being on the backburner with his chemistry void of a love interest. However, I simply couldn't see Frankie/Madison as being more than friends because I truly didn't get that vibe between those two characters. Making them that would've just come across as lazy, IMO.

That happens with every couple though even the popular couples or so called popular. And just because a few people online are more rabid and obsessed like Liason and EJ and Sami fans doesn't make then more popular than those non shipped or less shipped couples. The death threats stuff is not unique which is why I blame the shows for feeding these ugly fanbase wars.

I agree and will add that this ties into my initial UO about not seeing the point of 'shipping almost-maybe-could've-should've "couples".

It's annoying as hell - especially when they get pissed off that their "couple" isn't as revered as, well, the actual and official couples that exist beyond a one-night stand, random booty calls, or once-in-a-blue moon kiss...

There's a reason why a Frodd/Evangeline (for example) will never be taken as seriously as a Frodd/Tea or a Blair/Max (as dysfunctional as the latter two couples were).

Suicide threats to the studio? Ohhhh-kay. I knew about the constant racist cracks against Maya, but suicide threats to ABCD? Jesus.

I don't understand how suicide threats are supposed to motivate TPTB. "I'm going to kill myself if X and Y don't get together!" is pretty much the definition of a self-resolving problem.

Under normal circumstances, marceline, I'd agree. But if an actor can be re-hired because someone sent the new EP a pretty floral arrangement.... *shrug*

That would require logic - something that some folks clearly don't have.

Who did that happen to?

I don't get using a few vocal online or even PA fans to try and say so and so is a big popular couple neither are a decent measure of the overall fansbase and most of the time online it's split down the middle over who likes what couple and who hates what couple but the louder people apparently choose which is a popular couple.

With Cartooni, it seems to come down to whichever fanbase makes the most noise on Twitter and FB. Interesting that the most vocal don't seem to be able to bring the numbers and the ratings keep falling.

To be fair that's been the case for years. There a never been any proof in terms of numbers that those that are the loudest online are the most popular. Days just did an entire reboot centered around a ton of fanfaves folks online have been whining for for years and its been a big old flop.
