I agree with you, Max. Toups said before that he has no interest in other daytime shows, so he wouldn't want to include Price is Right, Let's Make a Deal, The View, and The Chew, etc, but it's not that we're "interested" in those other shows, it's that we're interested to see how the remaining soaps compare in rating to those other shows. I hope he realizes that, and provides that info when AMC and OLTL depart. The soap ratings mean nothing unless we see them in context to the other shows in network daytime.

Yeah, I don't thinkr atings EVER shoot up the first week (or few weeks) of a writer change. Most casual viewers don't even know a new writer is suddenly starting. And I doubt ABC would invest in Guza again for a variety of reasons (money, the fact I don't think GH has a huge future, etc...)

It's obvious this story did play a part, and as tupid as many find the porn story (including me) I think a lot of viewers were excited for the reveal. So I agree with most of what you say, though I always wonder about the underbuidget comment still beign constantly trunked out (and I don't see OLTL beating B&B on Friday, but...)

Another great week for the soaps for me personally I'm surprised the ratings have been as high as they are for all six of the serials this summer. I expected some huge pretty large drop offs this summer honestly. Let's start with the hottest soap of the summer. OLTL? No I meant B&B.

B&B

Monday: 2.2/3,043,000

Tuesday: 2.2/3,053,000

Wednesday: 2.2/2,870,000

Thursday: 2.1/2,986,000

Friday: 2.2/2,986,000

With OLTL making the news like it has this summer nobody is really paying attention to the growth that B&B has done this summer. B&B not that long ago was getting ATWT type ratings. This is a really important time right now for B&B to really be on its game right now b/c the other hot soap of the summer OLTL is very close to catching it for 2nd place.

OLTL

Monday: 2.1/3,020,000

Tuesday: 1.8/2,543,000

Wednesday: 1.8/2,647,000

Thursday: 1.9/2,853,000

Friday: 2.0/3,000,000

OLTL has been on fire and there's no doubt about that. It is a freaking machine right now that can't be stopped. It seems like the summer run has really helped them boost their audience even more. With the show ending its run on ABC here very soon the show will likely grow its audience even more. One of the predictions that I kept on making was that OLTL would reach 3 million viewers very soon and it did just that on two different days this week. OLTL had its most impressive Friday in some time getting exactly 3 million viewers. OLTL next goal is to sure up the other days of the week and start averaging 3 million viewers which its very close to doing and ride into second place catching B&B but unluckily for them B&B is hot right now.

Keep a close eye on the mid-weeks in September when AMC ends its run on ABC. I think that's when were going to see OLTL reach 3.5-4 million viewers.

Y&R

Tuesday: 3.5/5,002,000

Thursday: 3.4/4,804,000

Y&R has had a slow summer as their numbers are not peaking right now but Tuesday looked like a pretty good day for them this past week and so was Thursday. That's makes B&B's performance this summer all the more interesting with not as big of a lead-in as it used to have. A lot of the attention this summer is not really on Y&R but I do expect them to come through as usual guns blazing this fall.

DAYS

Monday: 1.8/2,562,000

Tuesday: 1.9/2,582,000

Wednesday: 1.7/2,405,000

I don't care what anybody says but DAYS has been the best soap this summer quality wise. The EJ stuff has been classic stuff and Carly's drug stuff has been entertaining. It seems like its just starting to pickup some steam as we inch closer to that September 26th rebrand date. I hope for DAYS' sake that their ratings continue to rise and don't drop drastically again from here on out.

GH

Monday: 1.9/2,572,000

Tuesday: 1.8/2,532,000

Friday: 1.9/2,627,000

Ratings aside, it looks like fans are happy with what their seeing which is a positive as the negative attention towards the quality of the show has been pretty bad. That's a good sing that as long as GH treads this way and with Ron C. on the way then this show will be seeing OLTL type ratings or even higher in due time but always remember folks quality equals in the long-term not in the short-term so don't be surprised if you see GH continue to struggle this summer. I must say though that Friday's rating is something positive towards next week with this Jason in the hospital stuff and the demo rating is at 1.1 which is one point higher than OLTL.

AMC

Monday: 2.0/2,681,000

Tuesday: 1.8/2,438,000

Wednesday: 1.8/2,521,000

Thursday: 1.9/2,651,000

Friday: 1.8/2,608,000

Lets save the best for last right?

We all pretty much know that people are going to start hopping on the AMC bandwagon with its final weeks on ABC coming week and many huge returns.

I must say the only thing that I'm paying attention to honestly is the quality of the show trying to see if its watchable or not and I've got to say AMC has gotten progressively better since May. This is the probably the most watchable its been in many years.

I'll talk about the future of AMC and OLTL on cable in the next post.

I can't believe the rumors that were started in late April might be actually true about AMC and OLTL ending up with the NBC/Comcast family. There was just something about those rumors that were believable. As you guys all know AMC and OLTL is being shopped right now by Prospect Park to cable networks and a deal is coming real soon. I had no idea until I read up on this stuff that Prospect Park had the power to sell these soaps but unfortunately I read somewhere that PP won't have the license to shop GH when its canceled sadly.

It would be a ground-breaking move if these two soaps end up on the USA Network which is cable's top network year in and year out. USA's reach is huge I believe they reach 100 million homes so the only people that won't see it are the ones without cable which is likely only 20% of AMC and OLTL's audience. These two soaps would be in replay mode since they'll be online but most of the audience will be watching on USA anyways. It'll be interesting to see what time these soaps air. If they air in later timeslots maybe around 4pm or 5pm or even 6pm that could draw in some of those DVR viewers that go to school or work during daytime hours.

I can actually see the soaps succeeding on USA more than the other networks b/c USA does pretty well during the day with NCIS reruns and that could be a boost to the shows with that kind of a lead-in. Comcast also has Bravo and Oxygen so they can still end up on those networks instead of USA.

Lets not rule out NBC just yet, if these two soaps are truly being licensed to NBC then I can really see a possibility of them landing on NBC Daytime with DAYS but I think since their going to be airing in replay fashion probably not but don't rule it out just yet until we hear which network picks them up.

I admire your positive view on the ratings Jnwet. I did say OLTL wouldn't hit 3.0 million viewers and Lord behold it did twice and beating B&B twice. But I highly doubt OLTL will hit 3.5 million viewers. I think OLTL is peaking. I expect the ratings will fall off esp come Sept once Days get on there A game. Days should not be counted out. Just ask Brad Bell he should know best.

How much exactrly has B&B gained this summer Newt? I know they are on an upward trend.

Y&R has showed an impressive 5 million mark. It's a been a long time since they've seen numbers like those.

Does anyone know when was the last time OLTL had 3 million viewers and 5 million for Y&R?

Thank you AMLC I want to put some miles on people's faces and give them a good honest analysis ratings review.

When it comes to OLTL they may be dropping this coming week but I think their far from peaking right now. Usually when I forecast ratings its usually on climate for the show which is how I got the 3 million mark right, the show keep treading upwards pretty quickly. Now I over-predicted anything close to 4 million but 3.5 is a possibility or somewhere around 3.2 or 3.3, the reason why I say that is AMC is starting to grow now every week as they build towards their finale. There's no doubt about it AMC's finale will reach more than 3 million viewers and OLTL is going to benefit from it. After that OLTL will have to start getting ratings on its own but they too have a finale to build towards so their numbers can stay up once November gets here.

Not sure when was the last time they hit 3 million but check this daunting stat out. This was before OLTL became a machine in the fall. Their ratings were abysmal last summer.

JULY 5-9, 2011 OLTL

Monday: 1.8/2,380,000

Tuesday: 1.6/2,033,000

Wednesday: 1.6/2,074,000

Thursday: 1.6/2,155,000

Friday: 1.6/2,294,000

JULY 25-29, 2011 OLTL

Monday: 2.1/3,020,000

Tuesday: 1.8/2,543,000

Wednesday: 1.8/2,647,000

Thursday: 1.9/2,853,000

Friday: 2.0/3,000,000

Anytime Y&R hits 5 million viewers is impressive I think the last time they got that number was recently maybe sometime earlier this year. I remembered them getting 4.9 in May at some point. It's been a struggle for them to hit that number.

I was looking at some spring numbers for B&B and it looks like they've gained between 200,000-300,000 viewers this summer.

APRIL 11-15, 2011 B&B

Monday: 2.0/2,632,000

Tuesday: 2.1/2,859,000

Wednesday: 2.0/2,677,000

Thursday: 1.9/2,585,000

Friday: 2.0/2,706,000

JULY 25-29, 2011 B&B

Monday: 2.2/3,043,000

Tuesday: 2.2/3,053,000

Wednesday: 2.2/2,870,000

Thursday: 2.1/2,986,000

Friday: 2.2/2,986,000

B&B has done something right over there this summer to pull these numbers up, usually in the summer is when the show declines in viewership year-to-year which it has but by a smaller amount compared to past years where lost usually like a half a million viewers. They lost only like 100,000+ this year and that number can go up in the fall depending on the direction the show is taking.
