GH: Discussion for the Month of August

Am I missing anything?

You do realize...we're still on ABC, right? I mean, Brian Frons hasn't pawned the show off on PP...yet.

I like Liz as the put upon heroine. Every soap needs a character that finds heartache around every turn, and it is a key role and an honor for the actressI think to play that character. Liz fits the bill perfectly. In years past Bobbie was excellent in that role. Jenny Gardner, Krystle Carrington...this is what soaps are made of. I remember poor Brenda Holden on OLTL, first they killed her husband, then she found out she was pregnant with twins, then they killed one of the twins in the womb, and then they kidnapped her live baby and gave her a dead one in its place,laugh.pnglaugh.pnglaugh.png You gotta have that.

I would also like the Spencers front and center (except Lulu) and the Cassadines revived except for drippy, dull Alexis. I wish GH would hire Thaao Penghjlis to come on as the next villain.

Liz still has her studio. Had no clue. I thought she got rid of it ages ago.

I hated the cheap special effects of the characters in the dreams watching themselves

And back to Monica...its her dream world where everything can be as perfect as she wants...and AJ is still dead.laugh.png

I noticed that too and it pissed me off. I was wondering if they were going to mention him and there he is dead

Some of these dreams don't make sense. If you are dreaming about what you want, why on earth would you fantasize about things going horribly? What train of thought gets Monica from "Oh, things could have been so different. If only...." to "My son is a coke fiend."? And I don't even know where the Liz dream came from. Three minutes ago she was telling Lucky she will always save him, and now she is fantasizing about her perfect romance with Jason. So ok, she still pines for Jason so how does her fantasy become he doesn't want a baby and she is trying to get pregnant? It's her fantasy, he is supposed to want everything she wants!

And back to Monica...its her dream world where everything can be as perfect as she wants...and AJ is still dead.laugh.png

I think they all trail back to Edward's "Be careful what you wish for" comment. These aren't dreams, they are fantasies mixed with worry topped off with reality. None of them are going to be perfect or end beautifully (at least that's my gut feeling).

Looking at Liz's situation the way you do, quartermainefan, it's not a stretch to say Liz, as the put-upon heroine, is only continuing a legacy on this show that began with Nurse Jessie Brewer, the original GH heroine who made viewers want to claw their eyes out with all her dramas.

If people claw their eyes out because of drama, why are they watching a soap opera? I don't think Liz has enough problems to be honest, and hope she gets framed for Siobhan's murder.

Jessie had a strong support system. Liz, as much as I am apathetic towards this character, deserves better than Leatherface and the unwashed crybaby.

Leo Julian died in 2009. Yes, he was a Nightshift character, but he was also on GH before/after. He died during toxic balls.

I know y'all don't like Matt, but I do. And I LOVE the chemistry he has with Liz. They ooze chemistry together, for me.

I'm actually loving him and Liz to. Outside of that....just no. lol.

Oh yeah, he doesn't serve much purpose outside of that. He doesn't have the spark with KS that he had back on DAYs. That always happens when you try to make a pairing work based on prior success (Stefan and Katherine, anyone?). I like his sibling rivalry with Patrick, too. But it's being a bit overplayed.

Oh - and about the dreams. I don't see them so much as "fantasy". To me, they aren't supposed to be "Oh if Jason was Jason Q my life would be peeeeeeeeeeeerrfect!" but instead, they're supposed to be an evaluation of how life would be different. Things may have been safer, but that doesn't mean there wouldn't have been issues at hand. Sam/Carly pretty much got to envision the "perfect" Jason lifestyle, while Monica and Liz realize that there will be roadblocks no matter what.

Oh and LMAO to Jason and the cocaine.

1). Who just busts out the coke to snort a line on the train set in the family living room?

2). No one would EVER snort as much cocaine as Jason had on that table in one sniff!!

Steve Burton isnt beleievble in any of those roles except Sam's dream. He just seems so off in the others, especially Monica's. I say the hitman putting on a suit. He doesnt really seemed all that changed or that Jason Q is a different character. I dont know if its the writing or he's just not putting much into it. Maybe both but it seems off in 3 our of 4 of those sequences

I disagree, I thought he was believable in Liz's dreams. Monica's, not so much but I think if the show put real effort into making Jason like how he was in any of the dreams (besides Sams'), it could work out. I personally don't agree that SBu is a bad actor or only knows how to play one part, I think he's great and has a lot of range hidden in there, the show just has to write it for him!

I like his sibling rivalry with Patrick, too. But it's being a bit overplayed.

EXACTLY! I was loving the sibling rivalry a few weeks ago but it became to much.

I thought SB came alive in all those scenes more than he was allowed to be as Borg Jason. He will never be a complex actor, but at least he's been given freedom for range that he hasn't seen in years lately.

As for the Matt vs. Patrick thing: Take two overacted, under-talented actors, give them childish behaviour and this is what you come up with. The same material in the hands of Tracy vs. Alan, or Lucky vs. Ethan, would have a very different feel to it. Both of these 'doctors' need to shut up and go back to behaviour school.

Steve Burton will be grateful to Bob Guza for turning "Jason Quartermaine" into "Jason Morgan" until the day he dies. He sees it as a HW taking a chance on him and allowing him to stretch his (acting) muscles in ways no other writer(s) had allowed him to before. Unfortunately, I think Burton isn't bright enough to realize Guza (and most likely, Wolf) did what every other HW had been doing for as long as he's been in that role, just in a different direction. Burton couldn't take playing "Jason Quartermaine" anymore, because Jason was so milquetoast and had nothing to do on the show. But dude -- whether you're playing "Jason Quartermaine" or "Jason Morgan," you'll never get material even Maurice Frigging Benard gets, because you're not. that. good. Either accept it, Steve-o, or walk away and let a real actor assume the role.

LOL…. that's true. I never saw another 'lead' character who was never given a story to lead. He's not a bad actor, he can do somethings in a John Wayne kind of way, but he's not got the range that those around him have always had and that shows him up.

I think SB was right in that is was a gift to be given Jason Morgan (Jason Q was way too preppy), but the sad thing is his new direction became a rut.

Friday's episode was really unique, just something totally different than what we're used to seeing with Jason/Steve Burton. I loved all the different scenarios..also it didn't hurt getting to see some Liason :)
