GH: Discussion for the Month of August

Honestly the last time I found Lulu intersting was when she was with Logan. Luke Spencer's daughter wtih Scott Baldwin's son = gold. I dont know why or how they could mess that up. They hated how they trasheed him and threw her with Johnny. Logan could have had potential outside of Lulu if they wanted to move her on

Totally agree with all of this.

I really liked what they were setting up with Nick/Liz at the start before JJ returning and Lucky had to be the man again. They were explaining that Liz felt obligated to Lucky for various reasons, and him to her for the kids. They are first loves with lots of baggage they cant let go. Thats why they always come back together and cant move on. But then JJ came back, it was all Liz's fault. Her w/ Nik became slutty and borderline malicious. Then Becky was fired, Liz was thrown further under the bus, and Becky ended up staying. GW really needs to invest in Liz and fix the damage and give her a good story cuz we all KNOW that JJ will be gone sooner than later.

Liz looked horrible from the very start of that storyline even when Greg was in the role. Liz looked bad either way because she just cheated on Lucky not even two years ago with Jason and had to deal with the whole paternity question as well back then. She learned nothing after that situation even after all that happened between her, Jason, Sam and Lucky. She looked stupid putting herself in a similar position even with JJ not in the role. Liz is a mess of a character because she is a serial cheater, and they destroyed the character by not giving her any valid sense of motivation for her actions. Liz isn't stupid so the 'I didn't know it would hurt you like this' defenses were worthless. They at least half-way justified it last time by having Lucky cheat first but her serial lying about the paternity of Jake was damn near unforgivable especially after all Lucky did for her. He broke his back trying to earn her forgiveness and he had no clue that Liz was just as faithless as he was. He just walked around like a fool not knowing the truth. They could dress that [!@#$%^&*] up anyway they wanted to it still pushed amazing, moral, saintly, pious Elizabeth through the mud because her actions were such a disastrous way of handling the entire storyline. There was no justification for either of Elizabeth's trysts outside of her relationship for Lucky and she got less sympathy from the way she handled them afterwards.

I was hoping Siobhan would be Lucky's "Tracy" - meaning the one who finally broke the curse of endlessly being caught up in the same pairing - but that's going south in a hurry. I don't want to see two character being "teenagers only older", I want to see actual movement. All this drug story is doing is taking away the one claim GV had as a story, it's not giving us any new territory.

Bringing JJ back was a huge mistake IMO. What was once an incredibly powerful teenage actor is now a one note performer. It's disappointing.

I still contend that JJ is probably the best actor on GH currently. I think he's phenomenal.

As to the Tracy comment, I don't even remotely buy Tracy and Luke as a couple. There a joke. He will always belong to Laura no matter how badly this show tries to destroy their relationship and legacy.

I loved Olivia when she came to PC but when the show put her with Johnny Skidmarks I did not like her to much. That's why I was team Claudia, I wanted Olivia away from Johnny! I preferred him with Lulu!

I liked Claudia and Jolu a lot as well.

I liked Johnny/Lulu, too. But I'm not open at all for a redux. JMB can no longer move any part of her face, and she's slipped into monotone delivery once more. I honestly can't stand her and wish they'd recast. How that ever became a 2 time emmy winner is beyond me. I even find myself enjoying Dante when he's not with Lulu.

It doesn't surprise me that JMB got the emmy twice. Look at who her competition was. She was the best dramatic actress in those categories by far. It does disappoint that JMB has just stopped trying though because she is probably one of the better younger dramatic actresses on the show when she puts forth real effort.

I'll always have a little hope for my Johnny/Lulu! But Dante/Lulu seem more popular so It's most likely not happenin' ;-(

I don't understand why Dante/Lulu are so popular. They are so boring.

She was good in the courtroom scenes but that emmy BELONGED to Kirsten Storms that year. Maxie's eulogy was the most heartbreaking scene I've seen on GH in I don't know how long. Yes, it was sad that the character of Felicia had come to that low point, but Kirsten OWNED those scenes and was outright ROBBED of the emmy.

Disagree. Storms is such a weak dramatic actress. She can play the stuck up, snobby bitch with her eyes closed because I more or less believe that is her 'default' setting, but JMB tears her apart in dramatic scenes.

JJ is limited.

He is one note, but it is a great one note. He can do super angry into the emotional cry well, but thats it. everything else is monotone and just blahhh. plus he does the angry/emo thing so much it loses impact, IMHO

That could be said about so many actors on GH though. laugh.png I think JJ has a great emotional range and I think he is an actor who colors his performances in a variety of ways when given high stakes drama. There are always layers to his portrayal even if you don't see them the first time you watch. He is quite vibrant on screen when given the material. He sets the bar a lot higher then a lot of the current cast. I can't remember the last time I was this fulfilled by an actors performance on this show. I thought he did a great job playing stoned Lucky even if it was a bit over the top and overly sentimental but that was the direction he was given.

LOL "this is not Bensonhurst, back in the day. This is Port Charles, circa now."

LOL. Knew someone would quote that. Well, it's pretty true but I still love when Bensonhurst is brought up ...;-)

I loved Claudia's little speech in that scene so much, I seriously know it by heart!

I preferred the potential of Johnny with Brook. I was really looking forward to seeing Brook steal him from her mother figure. That would have hurt Olivia's ego!

I can't believe they stuck her with boring (at the time) 'ol Nikolas rather than continue with her & Johnny! They were hot!

Please don't post links to youtube channels who post new-full episodes. Networks don't like those channels and will shut them down. Thanks!

Oh, sorry!

I liked Claudia and Jolu a lot as well.

wub.png They were great! wub.png

100% Agree

JMB is by far the better actress than Storms... WHEN she decides to stop being lazy and checked out and shows up to act, and thats a rare thing.

Storms can do dramatic tho, like the funeral, but more of the spiteful drama than the overly dramatic total breakdown.

They together are a great younger set who deserve far better material. Much like KMc, RH and KeMo

What bothers me with the whole liz/lucky things is this assumption that the fans "need" to see them together. No growth is allowed either of them. They have both had successful pairings outside of the other (Liason/Niz, LuSam/Luxie) but those were killed because the always had to return to LL2, and unfortunately Lush will probably meet the same fate. I was hoping Siobhan would be Lucky's "Tracy" - meaning the one who finally broke the curse of endlessly being caught up in the same pairing - but that's going south in a hurry. I don't want to see two character being "teenagers only older", I want to see actual movement. Who said Liason, Niz Lusam. Luxie were successful. I think LIason aside from the diehards were pretty hated by the general audience because of how heavy handed the show was in trying to sell them. Hell Lucky's own sister was pushing them togehter when Liz/Lucky were still married. Lusam actually worked essentially because KeMo and GV sparkled together and because of the heavy handed writing against them.

I do think bringing JJ back was a mistake but I don't think it had a thing to do with Niz flopping. The setup was poor and already getting backlash long before JJ returned. People forget the audience saw BH's Liz treat GV"s Lucky already like crap and I lost any respect I had for BH as an actress in how she played her scenes with GV not just then but in all the time they worked together. There was such a difference when GV worked with Kemo it was like night and day. But people think the audience was rooting for Liz/Nik as a pairing and Lucky as the dupe again? It doesn't matter who was playing Lucky. And no matter how stupid people think GV's Lucky was he was a far more appealing leading romantic male on that show than most anyone else in the cast. He was great looking, had good on screen charisma, and was a very warm version of Lucky. I loved his Lucky probably because he was more like Laura than the other 2 ever were.

I think GH is very stale with their pairings. None of the current pairings are super couple like. This is not the 80's or 90's anymore. None of these couples get the setup and OTT stories these super couples like LL and Frisco/Felicia, Robert/Holly and such got but the way they refuse to permanently separate them they act like it. Robin and Patrick, Jason/Sam, even Sonny and Brenda as we saw lost their luster. I think the only younger couple that has a real spark and connection is not Lulu and anyone or Maxie and anyone its Ethan and Kristina. Its a shame she's so young because the actors really gel and have the best natural chemistry I have seen in a couple on that show in ages. But from interviews and events JAsam and Scrubs are Frons mandated much like Rylee on AMC is.

Maxie is such an afterthought on the show which is a shame bc I finally like her after initially hating her bc Storms took over the role. I really want to enjoy her but I FF through 90% of her scenes bc they tend to have Spinelli in them and I honestly can not take him at all.

 • Member

It really sucks how they have wasted Maxie with Spinelli and making her and Lulu friends.

And I loved Claudia vs. Olivia. Team Claudia of course! Love when she kicked Olivia's ass. I would post it but I don't wanna get yelled at.

I completely agree with this. GV with Kelly was such a breath of fresh air and was so different for him. The way GV played him against Sam when they were first paired together was great. You really saw the fire come back into his eyes and he played him like such a roguish man. It's like he wanted to ravish Kelly and you could tell there was a lot of sexual chemistry between the two of them. It was like Lucky was finally treated like a man, who was desired and who had wants and needs. He wasn't this whipping boy who Liz constantly asked to hold her purse. Liz treated him like such a sexless and unromantic entity that it became obvious that she didn't want him touching her or being with her, because she was holding out and fantasizing over Jason.

After the affair though much of that fizzled.

But people think the audience was rooting for Liz/Nik as a pairing and Lucky as the dupe again? It doesn't matter who was playing Lucky.

I agree. 100% why would viewers feel sympathy for Liz after she went through a similar storyline not even two years ago where she made Lucky a fool but this time instead of with his one time friend now with his brother? Liz wasn't getting away with that twice, she barely got away with it the first time.

I agree with this too. Greg was a stud and he was capable in most of his scenes. He was a strong romantic lead when written and he was also a capable dramatic actor, even though he could be a bit boring and though his scenes were a little underplayed and developed.

I agree with this too but this happens with most couples in soaps nowadays. Look at all the CBS soap pairings. They are only interesting when they first start or when they are antagonizing one another in a form of one-up-man-ship.

Of the many mistakes with JJ's return, one of the biggest was assuming Lucky was a good character again just because a popular actor of 10 years ago was back in the role. They should have spent a long time building Lucky back up. Instead, they assumed viewers would get a thrill out of his comments about Liz only being worthwhile when bleeding in the snow, and they had nothing else, unless you count his tears for Jason. He has no relationships, he has no friendships, he has and is nothing.

Sending him on the big "adventure" with the pointless Siobhan was like a big red flag saying "We have no idea what to do with this character."

LOL!

Best scene ever between them was the fight they had in Johnny's hospital room. Claudia walked in and was like, "Bensonhurst, get the hell away from my brother!"

Olivia: "Claudia, could you just so a little restraint for one night, your brother has just been shot!"

Claudia: "Why don't you burn in hell, bitch?" LOL!!

I loved when Claudia slapped Olivia, Olivia punched her, & then Claudia said "Bitch, I will kill you" (Olivia's response: "Bring it!") laugh.png It's to bad that fight got cut short cause Johnny's heart started giving out! Man, Claudia and Olivia had the best fights.

He is one note and that's precisely the one note Daytime tries to play the hardest, so he does work in this medium. HOWEVER I want to see some range and he just doesn't have it. Every time I see him start to cry, I find myself shutting off emotionally and that's the opposite reaction someone should have to a heavy scene.
