AMC: The Bianca Story That Never Happened

The new SOW chats with teen romance novelist Meg Cabot who says that ABC approached her years ago to come up with a story idea for the character of Bianca that would attract a younger demographic for the show. This is her describing the story she sold ABC:

My plot ideal for Bianca was to have her fall in love with a mysterious hot guy who ran around Pine Valley with no shirt on, just jeans and a leather jacket. He was always saving her life. Erica totally disapproved of him. In the end it was going to turn out that he ruled this underground kingdom that existed beneath Pine Valley.

According to Cabot her idea got tossed when Agnes Nixon decided to make Bianca gay.

AMC, The Disney Fairytale edition? That's BEYOND dumb even by soap standards. Forget the whole gay going straight aspect of it; that plot doesnt even hold up on its own

her idea got tossed when Agnes Nixon decided to make Bianca gay anyone with a thread of common sense read it.

Like Carl's mind, my first thought was that she probably watched OLTL around 1989 to come up with this original idea.

I'm just sorry we won't get to see a story where Bianca meets a sexually confused female escapee from an underground kingdom :(

They could have cast Jessica Tuck.

Some Meg Cabot novels are very entertaining, but she never used this plot for one of her novels (even the teen ones). This sounds like silly Eterna.

She lost me at no shirt and just a funky leather jacket. NEVER would have guessed she was going Eterna with it.

That just sounds retarded. If I were looking to become a writer on a specific soap, at minimum I'd pitch something consistent with the history and tone of the show. Then again, lord knows what craziness Pratt pitched that got him hired. Was it the tornado?

Pun intended.

She also says she was a big fan of the show during the Jenny/Greg era, so she must have known how incompatible this story idea was with AMC. So strange.

I wonder though if maybe this story pitch is what got ABC execs thinking about shifting Port Charles to supernatural arcs. The timing would be about right.

Um..................OK.

It sounds like she came up with that sh!t after 15 Sidecars.

What an idiot. Thank God she wasn't at AMC to pen that trash.

That's ridiculous. Ugh.

There was always that rumor that Frons wanted Bianca to question her sexuality by lusting after Erica's most recent ex, and at that point, it was David. yeah. They had some crazy ideas for the girl.

Kinda makes the storylines we did get for her seem tame and creative.
