@LeClerc Wow! I believe this to be true. It lines up with what Cameron said in his interview, without really saying it. Smh, the backstage politics win again. All those idiots played a part into ruining my show and getting it cancelled!

@FrenchBug82 @John I’m ok with the way AMC ended. It was always the unconventional soap anyway, happy endings are lame and unrealistic imo.

I don't think happy endings is what I would have preferred necessarily.
But there are PLENTY of ways to let the show on a "The Story continues..." note while still providing some closure, some sense of where character is ending up at the time the show ends and some level of satisfaction. It does not have to be a happy ending or even "ending" route. Just a sense of finality for the current chapter of these characters' lives.
I could have even been OK with the JR cliffhanger. It is just that the AMC network finale left a LOT of other threads dangling and didn't really offer much in terms of definitive answer - because they were leaving the door open for PP.
The characters that DID get a satisfying ending - Brooke and Adam come to mind - are characters they knew they wouldn't bring back. Admittedly their was a happy ending but otherwise I didn't leave a sense of where each character story would be going once the show ended, which is not satisfying.

@FrenchBug82 well that’s certainly fair and You’re right, more could have been done for certain characters I.E. Kendall and Tad (career wise). It would have been nice to see someone boarding a train to start their next chapter. Lorraine tied up things nicely with what she had, centerpiece of the grand finale about Erica/Brooke/JR were all genius to me.

This lines up with an old interview I read with Cameron. He said after the Ryan/Hayley storyline was aborted, he never got the same amount of airtime again during his first run on the show. I do remember one of the magazines at the time said there were rumors someone BTS didn't care for her, but they didn't name names. Jean Passanante seem to brush off in an interview about the idea of reuniting them (Ryan/Gillian) when asked about it around the time of Ryan/Hayley.

What I remember reading at the time was that Cameron was the one that proposed they bring back Gillian as a ghost for Ryan like they had brought Leo for Greenlee. Originally they told him no, but decided last minute to add her. Cameron talked about it in a facebook post at the time we were lucky to get her at all.

I believe it was Jill Larson who said the original finale was Six Feet Under-ish and provided a glimpse into the characters' futures.

I wonder if the montage at the beginning of the episode where you see the births of various characters, and then those characters having kids of their own etc, was actually at the end of the original finale, and after showing the past and the present it would have moved into the future.

Agreed! Another case of TPTB making bad decisions based on who was fooling around behind the scenes.

@Elsa True. And I think they was going to get a prime time finale too! Chrishelle and Ricky were the only ones that got to film their scenes.

Great find!!

The host is incredibly irritating, though.

Anyway, I thought I’d share these photos from the wedding of Kate Collins & Charles Newell (renowned Chicago theatre director & producer) in October 1992:

    • I don't think Chelsea has a true label just yet. She's just finding out she has an interest in women. I think the awkwardness is aligned with the character as we've seen. This is the fool who keeps filming her family when embarrassing things happen and live streaming it. I actually think it's refreshing she isn't just jumping into a relationship  and that they're playing the beats of her trying to figure out who she is.
    • Wow, do I agree with you. Chelsea is coming off as ridiculous. All she does is look for a woman to date while not caring about her business at all. That she's bi is great, but they're not writing her like she's bi. She seems to be lesbian. Yeah, I know -- "no labels." I just don't find the writing for her story to be anything other than awkward.   -- I hope we get some diagnosis finality with Bill's trip to the hospital. I don't want to see these trips to the ER every other day. -- Naomi is going to blame herself for Bill's health problems? GMAB. -- Ashley doesn't read as a real nurse in the slightest. -- Another day, another rinse and repeat conversation with Derek and Ashley. YAWN. -- Kat is making mistakes, but she's fun to watch and listen to, regardless. -- I still think the Joey/Vanessa/Doug gambling story sucks. I know Doug is deeply in debt, but I don't like him acting this meek and submissive.  -- I'm not sure what Joey's plan was from the beginning, or why he had to seduce Vanessa at all to get his way. I'm not sure what Vanessa ever saw in Joey -- why doesn't he give her the ick? -- I'm fine with a story where Doug and Vanessa take out Joey.  -- The fades to commercials were pretty bad today.
    •   Victoria's house (that she long ago lived in with Billy) burned down (I think Aunt Jordan set it ablaze?). Victoria briefly moved into the ranch after the fire, with Claire, Johnny and Katie, I think? Mariah and Tessa and baby Aria had been living in the tack house but they bought a house we've never seen and moved there. Victoria, Claire, and Cole then moved into the tack house as soon as Teriah left. I guess Victoria's children Johnny and Katie would live with Victoria at the tack house eventually? But Johnny and Katie went to boarding school during the school year. Not sure if we'll see Johnny and Katie for the summer vacation or where they would live.
    • Victoria’s previous house burned down.    And I know why characters frequent Crimson Lights 3 times a day for brownies, muffins and empty mugs:   THERE’S PCP IN EVERYTHING.
    • Today was a good episode, and the week for that matter. I think they've also done a better job with background music. The scenes in todays episode weren't as silent as they usually are in the background and it was noticeable. I think the show has found its groove well and I'm still invested.
    • Garneau was in the Liberal party and his riding was in Montreal. He was the first Canadian in outer space.
    • I agree. I really have enjoyed this story from the beginning. I feel like it needed the time for us to care about Doug. They've done a nice job of explaining his motives and making me care for him. I still feel like he's doomed and Vanessa will end up being a widow and now I'm invested in that *not* happening now that I've fallen for him. Friday was good but so was the entire week. I think they're doing such a nice job of keeping things moving. We got good movement with Bill's story this week, Chelsea is attempting to date, Andre and Dani are having tough conversations about their relationship, of course Anita reunited with Sharon. There is *so* much going on and I didn't even cover all of it.  I wish all of the soaps would take a page out of BTG book and start rotating their stories. I love that everybody is getting a chance to shine and they don't just sit on one lead story to the point you get sick of it.
    • Did Jordan Clarke have a departure sometime between 1985 and 1989? I know Robert Newman had three runs: 1981-1984, 1986-1991, 1993-end.
    • Well, they usually weren't on the show at the time for long until the late 90's. But yeah, they really deserved a story centered on them, and not through the lens of Reva.
    • Chelsea was doing the absolute most today! Why was she introducing her sister to a woman she doesnt know? That whole scene was embarrassing. Madison needs to stay away from her bc she is too immature
