I can't even read these comments on various articles across the net. Shows you how separated soaps have gotten from mainstream popular culture, but then it reminds you that in many, many, many, many, many ways, they did it all to themselves. No, scratch that. They did it to themselves, but the incompetence of those who could make the real changes is what ultimately did them in. Like Y&RWT said, when the UK soaps falter, they GET FIXED. Everyone at ABC sat idle while subpar writers wrote low-rated shows whose ratings got lower and lower, never lifting a finger to make any real changes to fix them. It's the ambivalence that killed ABC Daytime. And that is frustrating.

Again what the hell kind of title is "The Chew"? Was this inspired by "The Talk"?

I'm sure it's supposed to be a play on "The View." Soon enough, we'll be seeing "The Shoe" (about shoes, if you didn't know), "The Loo" (about British bathroom architecture), "The Moo" (about cows), "The Goo" (about gooey substances, for the late night schedule), and "The Poo" (round-table discussion for scatologists).

That's the same bullshi! he said about his failed reality shows on Soapnet.

It's all buzzwords. If viewers were telling them that then most of these shows would not flop in daytime.

Ken Corday better step it up and spend some money to fix his show asap or it will be next!

Well it's on the right network.

I don't think DAYS has another contract cycle left with the way ratings have been going lately, and GH, it may end in 2012, or ABC may decide to keep it as their lone soap for at least two more years.

Y&R and B&B should be worried, as they're falling too, and since CBS doesn't own them, they could easily toss them aside when their contracts expire in a year or two. I think CBS would follow ABC's example and cancel both shows at once when they do it.

"They are telling us there is room for informative, authentic and fun shows that are relatable, offer a wide variety of opinions and focus on 'real life' takeaways."

With the right writers and producers they could have done this with the soaps.

For those of you asking what Susan Lucci's reaction to the news would be, well here is it, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly....

Susan Lucci reacts to 'All My Children' cancellation

by Kristen Baldwin

On the heels of ABC’s shocking announcement that it will end its long-running daytime soaps All My Children in September and One Life to Live next year, AMC star Susan Lucci — who has played diva Erica Kane since 1970 — issued this statement: “It’s been a fantastic journey. I’ve loved playing Erica Kane and working with Agnes Nixon and all the incredible people involved with All My Children. I’m looking forward to all kinds of new and exciting opportunities.” Perhaps she should give CBS a call — we hear they’re hiring.
